I mean, like someone in a different reply said - ofc Gorilla Tactics is more broken on Garmanitan. It's a free choice band, while "are u low on HP? Get a buff" abilities like those of starters' and salac berry strats have been extremely underwhelming since gen3, when they were introduced.

Fun fact, comfey is also one of if not the most important Pokémon when it comes to setting up the lost zone in TCG. Basically the lost zone is something that can fuel attacks at the price of not being able to use either cards you put there. Comfey’s ability flower select makes it so that you can put one of the top two cards of your deck in the Lost Zone. Usually Comfey is usually paired with Giratina VStar, Lost Origin Cramorant, Lost origin Sableye, and Radiant Greninja.
Even though Zen Darm is a fundamentally flawed mon, I have found one use for it. In a draft season using natdex and a curated list of mons, I spent most of the season using regular Darm but thinking "maybe this is the week I bring Zen Mode." I waited up until the week where I fought someone who had Armarouge and Lele. I figured this was as good a time as any to use it, as I noticed it got Expanding Force. Sadly the replay is lost to time, but it ended up winning the set because nothing wanted to be in the way of Tera Psychic Expanding Force with Trick Room set up.
Meloetta's gimmick could be made better by making her change forms based on which attack she uses: physical or special, and still keeping her Relic Song as a switching move, except it switches between being a physical and a special attack depending on whether Meloetta is in her pirouette form or aria form. And she could gain a signature ability too, tbh.
I think one really funny instance is Galarian Darmanitan, where both Gorilla tactics and Zen Mode are actually good. The galarian Variant’s Zen Mode keeps its physical stats and becomes much faster, it gains the unique typing of Fire and Ice, and can be immediately activated as a Belly Drum + Substitute sweeper. While this strategy is niche, due to Gorilla Tactics prominence, it would be more difficult to actually detect Zen Mode before it’s too late to prevent.
I use Oranguru in raids. Symbiosis is great to give Booster Energy Iron Hands or Belly Drum + Sitrus Berry Azumraills fun items like Life Orb or Shell Bell. Instruct not only allows allies to attack again but also to charge their Tera-Energy faster. On the first turn I usually set up Reflect or Light Screen since you don't want or need to instruct Belly Drum. If i recognize Sword Dancers they do get instructed though.
something to note about comfey: this was not mentioned in the video so I thought I might as well say it here, comfey's triage is similar to prankster in that it grants priority to certain moves, but it actually grants +3 priority rather than the typical +1 priority, which means that comfey can be a better healing-focused support than your average prankster user and can actually poke e-speed users before they can use said move. also, one of my favorite gimmick pokemon might be runerigus, because it is funny but not very viable, essentially their signature ability wandering spirit makes them swap abilities with any target that hits them, the amount of times this would come up is zero and mummy is propably better anyways but it sure is fun
Darmanotan Zen is like, Minior in reverse. Minior gets to be bulky at 50%+ health instead of below it. This makes far more sense and lets it do sweet shell smash setups with relatively low risk.
I used Comfey in the Indigo Disk DLC and I never realized how powerful it was against Kieren’s team in some ways. Not only did it beat his Hydrapple without much effort, it allowed support for my Eelektross to finish the job against Grimmsnarl (which was his last pokemon). Definitely became one of my favorite fairy types since then
I feel Zen Mode should be inverted, you start off bulky, do some set up shenanigans, then when at half health you turn into a sweeping monster. Would be a whole lot more interesting of a mon that way.
Overgrow, Torrent and Blaze have long established trying to be at low HP to get a benefit is a horrible and lackluster payoff and yet Game Freak thought doing the same with Darmanitan was a good idea.
those abilities are pretty decent but situational and abilities have been power-crept a lot. they work really well with sub or endure shenanigans and also can make them better defensive pokemon (e.g. in adv ou, swampert's hydro can OHKO ddtar if it's in torrent range, so if ddtar can knock pert into torrent range but not KO it then it loses the matchup even if it's at full, whereas if pert didn't have torrent and was low enough to faint to the next hit, then ttar would bust thru it). i would say i also think they are quite skill-intensive abilities. it takes good positioning, creativity, and metagame understanding to really make use of them but they are rewarding if you do that.
@@disasterarea9341 An incredibly specific instance like that would usually be called "situational". I would recommend you play some Yo-Kai Watch 3 if you think that since that game's system allows for far more creative teambuilding and ACTUAL positioning unlike Pokemon (since it uses a board and board movement like actual chess) and Yo-Kai like Arachnevil and Toadal Demon whom effectively do what Torrent, Overgrow and Blaze are TRYING to do but are much more consistent with pulling it off since you havd far more reliable options to get members of your monster party to low HP to begin with as opposed to Pokemon. Of course, it also helps the devs intentionally gave Arachnevil and Toadal Demon among the highest Strength and Magic in the game to effectively use such Skills meanwhile Starter Pokemon stat spreads tend to be pretty average.
@@DrCoeloCephalo That's one notable manifestation of a generally more applicable play pattern. It's notable because it helps Swampert beat a common set on the format's #1 Mon. In reality, Swampert's great bulk, excellent defensive typing, and immunity to sandstorm mean that it finds itself positioned to abuse torrent frequently, and there are specific Swampert sets that seek to maximize its Torrent value (like the SubSalac + Endeavor sets).

It feels like a massive disservice to talk about how bad Darmanitan's Zen Mode is, but not mention how fucking absurd Galarian Darmanitan's Zen Mode is. Instead of trying to become a tank while already half-way down, Galarian Darmanitan goes nuts and makes its Attack and Speed skyrocket to absurd levels 160 attack and 135 speed means it hits harder than fucking Zekrom and Outsped basically everything in OU except Dragapult and Barraskewda. And if all that wasn't enough. It also got access to Belly Drum. And did Darmanitan already have the highest attack stat of any Belly Drum user (Now tied with Iron Hands), but the 50 % HP penelty was exactly enough to put it into Zen Mode range and make it's attack even higher. Back in the day before Garmanitan was nuked from the face of OU, I would run a Bellysub set with Sarlac berry that let it out speed anything short of a scarfed Dragapult. And sure Fire/Ice isn't a great offensive combo due to both being resisted by fire and water types. But who the fuck cares about that when you're 2HKOing max-bulk Toxapex with fucking ice punch? The fact that Garmanitan's Zen mode was so obscene yet STILL overshadowed by Gorilla Tactics really goes to show just how stupid that ability was.
Ive always stood by the idea that meloetta would be way better if its changing ability wasnt dependent on it using relic song, cause by doing that it effectively gets completely hard countered by literally any ghost type in the game
@edgargaebolg9307 something like that COULD work, if it changed from special to physical when meloetta changes form that'd make it more worth using, it'd also be more worth while if it still changed your form even if it dosent hit the target
While Darmanitan kinda failed, the variant opts to become more deadly instead, functioning far better in the process..... (or I guess you could just go with free choice band instead)
I wanted to get Meloetta in the SV DLC, it annoyed me so much trying to catch it, I ended up giving up, but not before using my Smeargle to steal it's signature move, screw you Meloetta, I have Relic Song now, you will never get it back
Symbiosis hasn't been really tapped into, but it has so much potential with the fact that both locking and constmables are mainstream. I'm shocked it doesn't have some big mainstream strat yet, especially since there's a couple Symbiosis users with good survivability. Florges could BECOME a gimmick mon if symbiosis was used more.
Hmm, I literally do not play vgc, but wouldn't something like flare blitz darmanitan with comfey besides it be able to trigger zen mode? Or make it usable? Its a genuine question

Pretty sure everything I’ve ever head prior to this is that Meloetta blows?
its not great in ou. its been nice in lower tiers tho kinda similar to comfey.
my favourite gimmick Pokemon is definitely Zoroark. I'm not sure if Illusion could actually be good competitively, I don't really play competitive I just find looking at from the outside through videos like this to be very interesting
My big regret of this video. I was wanting to talk about it on it’s own anyways but not mentioning it was kinda dumb lol
Not me having to watch these videos at a slower speed...
Funne monke move finally mentioned (:
Just swept a guy with comfey in randbats

Sadly comfey has literally 0 moves that can hit steel types.
Probably not but does tera Fire Comfey have any viability? Tera Blast hits Steel and Giga Drain covers the weaknesses
Ive always stood by the idea that meloetta would be way better if its changing ability wasnt dependent on it using relic song, cause by doing that it effectively gets completely hard countered by literally any ghost type in the game
Was going to say that making RS shift between Fighting and Psychic type would solve it, but it's even worse
@edgargaebolg9307 that's exactly how it works, meloetta only changes forms by using relic song, not just knowing the move
@@regilad_9043 I meant having Relic Song itself be different types depending on Meloetta's form, which on second thought was a bad idea
@edgargaebolg9307 something like that COULD work, if it changed from special to physical when meloetta changes form that'd make it more worth using, it'd also be more worth while if it still changed your form even if it dosent hit the target
May you please do a video on Arceus in the next video, please?
triple axel meloetta is so yummy with lorb
and drain punch knock relic
I run an Assault Vest meloetta with Psychic, Hyper Voice, Thunderbolt, and Psyshock and max Sp.Def and Sp.Atk in singles.
Idk if ive ever heard someone say oranguru like that
Love gimmick pokemon :)
Water bulb comfey is a good counter to walking wake (trust me)
Mixed meloetta I used was very effective in gen 7-8 lol
shedinja my love
While Darmanitan kinda failed, the variant opts to become more deadly instead, functioning far better in the process..... (or I guess you could just go with free choice band instead)
I wanted to get Meloetta in the SV DLC, it annoyed me so much trying to catch it, I ended up giving up, but not before using my Smeargle to steal it's signature move, screw you Meloetta, I have Relic Song now, you will never get it back
These videos are great when I set the playback speed to 0.75.
What are the cute lil head icons for the pokemon called ?
Theyre so adorable
What is comfey's role in triple battle?
Comfey is my favorite pokemon and can sweep every single Pokemon if given the opportunity and no I’m not biased at all what are you talking about
a thought I just had: what if Zen Mode was activated by using Calm Mind? would it have any greater potential?
That would be pretty cool. It would probs be better, still worse than regular darm but could maybe see some use
The problem with florges is that it doesn't have good support moves,it's sp def is really good and an average physical bulk, but it feels too passive
Zen Darmanitan has 🗿 energy
Comfey gang 🗣️🗣️✊🌺🌼🏵️
Hmm, I literally do not play vgc, but wouldn't something like flare blitz darmanitan with comfey besides it be able to trigger zen mode? Or make it usable? Its a genuine question
You mean having Darmanitan blitz itself to Zen Mode, then using Comfey to keep it healed?
@@edgargaebolg9307 Yeah, I guess. Its fairy type covers the newly gained dark type weakness, if it gets giga drain that gets priority too against ground and rock types, and priority floral healing? Or a more supportive set? I don't really know, they just (on paper) sound like a good duo
@@Lyres-Liar-In-The-Lair Once its health goes back up, it goes back to regular.
meloetta's damning normal type and slow set-up into pirouette form makes pirouette form essentially useless. Not only does it take forever to setup and ghost types prevent it from setting up, meloetta loses its form change once it switches out. Its the worst mythic pokemon with a terrible gimmick that is outclassed by a lot of mons
I wish that Zen mode was just a split evo rather than a shit ability
Or a nature-depending form like with Toxtricity
so why is palossand not up here!!!! silly sand castle that gets bulkier by getting hit by water
didn't make the cut when i was looking for mons to include
If only it got special bulk instead of physical
:)
My mom
What's a gimmick Pokémon
i defined it as a pokemon that is designed with something obviously very unique that is meant to be the main reason you use them (or at least a large draw)
For example Mimikyu with disguise or surprising to some given its heavy usage, Aegislash with stance change
:D
SLOW DOWN MAN
