    Bought a set of Callaway Xr irons last year for $160. Project X Graphite A flex shafts. Best irons I have ever played. I'm a 16 handicap.

      I bought my XR irons new and can’t part with them for better irons “that go X yards farther.”

    I recently spent £89.00 of the kings finest on a set of Ping i3 oversize, 3 - PW. Took my Callaway Apex 21s out of the bag and can honestly say I don’t regret it. I now plan to sell the Callaway and probably take a massive 70% hit on what I payed for them. My only stipulation is have a decent putter and a decent driver but even that does not negate structural practice. Great channel Simon.

      Still think my i3 os were the best irons I ever hit. Just felt automatic.

      Still have mine in the garage. Have even looked at reshafting them. Got me to an 8 handi cap.

      I’m gaming my ping i3+ irons. Great feel, control and love how compact they look at the ball

    Best budget irons for 2024 and every other year?...................PIng Eye 2 or Ping Zing. I have a new set of Ping i525 irons, and I still game my BeCu Ping Zings when I'm feeling nostalgic. I don't miss a beat with the 30 year old Zings. The Eye 2s are higher lofted, so you have to club up, but they are still about the most forgiving (and best looking) irons ever made.

      Found a set of Eye 2’s at a Goodwill here in Arizona 2 years ago (5-sw), paid $40 out the door, $25 for some new Ping grips, and they’re in the collection. Great set of irons!

      Agreed. I have a BeCu set of eye 2’s that I game. I sold my PXG’s. I’ve had a set of Nike, srixon, PXG, tour edge, and Cobra and I hit the Pings the best

    Maybe I missed it regarding the Ping color system. But locally there's a Ping G iron set, Blue color code. AWT 2.0 steel shafts. Would these be a good option for a 63 yr old that hasn't played in 25+ years (25 cap when I did)?

    Don't really agree with the length opinion. Being 6ft 4 I used to, and still do, either top, or hit the strike massively out of the toe with a standard length. I get a much more consistent strike out of 1 inch longer and it's brought my handicap down by 10 shots. Lie though, genuinely is important and going from standard to 3° helped massively as well. Go to a fitter, get your measurements, then find the right clubs online.

    Just bought myself a set of Titleist 716 AP1 Irons 4-PW, I just want to know your opinion of them in 2024?

  • @shanesmith4701
    @shanesmith4701 5 місяців тому

    I find this so interesting, I started playing in 2020 and am 6ft 4 and had 3 fittings for irons and every single one they just say 1 inch long 2 degrees up. Also have 425 5 wood and 4 hybrid and they both go 180 yards I find the 5 wood just ballon’s up in the air at least I now know the answer

    I started back golfing about 3 years ago. I bought a used set of ping g10's for under $100. I'm getting alot better and think I could use an upgrade. Maybe the ping G's or a little newer could be good for me.

    Playing MIZUNO blades of 2hc in 2012 I hired a full set of Taylor made R11 clubs in Spain's Rhoda GC Costa blanc region . Of the championship tes in a ProAm shot +2 and cleaned up the visitors prise . Changed my views on cast cavity irons and adjustable drivers for ever .
    Still a mizunophile but not in the same way , I only carry 2 of their wedges now .

    I'm 6'2" and play inch over clubs. I have always hit my mid and long clubs BETTER than my short ones. In a practice round I once hit a fairway wood off the tee to wedge distance. I hit about 10 balls with a wedge and couldn't find the elevated green. I re-teed with the WEDGE and hit the second shot onto the green with the FAIRWAY club first try. After that I made the SHORT CLUBS even LONGER. Thanks to this video I now know Why.

    Cobra FP irons are awesome to be honest, 5 to SW £60 regular length, very good condition just needed a clean good as new.
    Couldn't get on with ping, use cobra king SZ woods, so being a sado I wanted a full set of cobra 😂

    Benross?
    Bloody brilliant back in the day!!
    But you don't need these modern, high priced models you mentioned.
    I'm still happy with my VeloCT irons from about 15 years ago.
    I challenge you to pick up a set for about £60 and tell me they're not as good as anything today (No, I won't put any money on it 😋)

      Massive in Japan but I think that they weren't big was because only Monty played them on the European tour. Cyber stars are the set I would recommend.
      I would recommend nickent first as they are hardly mentioned in the UK but we're very big on the US under tours. Full set up for the price of a reasonably priced second hand big name driver

    Im 6 foot 4 and use standard length red dot ping eye 2s 4 through LW and in my 5 and 4 i only go 1/4 inch longer in shaft progression, not recommending it but it works for me and is along the lines of what the video is talking about, very informative nice work Simon

    Thanks for this video! Out of curiosity, of those that warranted a +1" shaft, what were their measurements? Is there a general rule of thumb in terms of height / wrist-to-floor that if you saw that you'd definitely lean towards extended clubs?
    The reason I ask is because I'm 6'4" and was given a set that matches your "anti-right" setup. It's been painful to say the least. But now I'm worried that +1" is ingrained in me and it'd require a rework of my swing to use standards. Or is it all in my head? Thanks!

    • @SASGolf
      @SASGolf  6 місяців тому +1

      I would say at 6ft 4 you could never be in the catergory of +1” longer. Typically I put length down to how consistent you hit it out the middle. However going down to standard length I don’t think will get rid of the right shot your bale to close the face that much more in the downswing.
      I would look at technique first, as sounds like you have had those clubs built for you. Happy to have a look at your swing. Message me on my website. 👍

      I thought for some reason I needed midsized grips. I don't have very big hands and it was a huge mistake lol about 2 months later I ordered the standard grips and my game is better than ever.

    If you’re not a tour player, always buy used! But if you’re a tour player, keep using your used clubs…somehow you go to where you are with the clubs you have.

    My issue seems to be carry distance and therefore descent angle, I have a good (ish) swing speed, and strike (reasonably) consistently but as I have stiff shafts (hand me downs) it seems like nothing carries over about 150! For example my average 7 iron is159, with an average carry distance of 125 along with most of the bag! I will break 100 this year....I hope...

    Every time I think about getting some cavities I have a good round with my blades. Every time I think about changing the 4 iron for a hybrid I nut it on a couple of greens.
    I guess one day I will want a lighter shaft but it's not today.
