    Great video, thanks. Just got a new to me 1600p. After a clean and oil, needle seems very close to foot. Have i put it on wrong?

    I love that you have shown the ‘undercarriage’ of the unit, it really helps. I have one of these, only one year old, and its reverse lever has started to sort of gotten harder to press down. It now moves up and down as well when I hand-turn the wheel, or press the foot pedal. When it’s depressed down, it’s stuck in that position, unless I push it up.
    Might you be able to venture what could be the problem? Should I be able to solve it or should I take it to the dealer? Thanks so much in advance.

      Maybe try lubricating the reverse lever linkages along with the feed mechanism linkages. Thanks.

      @@InStitches thanks so much for replying. On hindsight it was risky for me to have bought it, with the nearest dealer 2.5hr flight away. I just thought when it’s supposed to be such a beast, I wouldn’t have any problems so soon. But I guess I need to step up with the oiling and upkeeping more!

    I purchased a new janome 1600p in May of 2022. I have constant problems with bobbins and tension. I really regret this purchase. Total frustration.

      What kind of issues?

      These machines are much closer to industrial machines than modern computerised domestic machines. Some of those do a lot of the necessary adjustments automatically, but crucially most are only capable of a using a narrower range of fabrics/threads than than these machines.
      These are much closer to industrial machines and provide a number of manual adjustments to get perfect sewing in a particular situation. In an industrial manufacturing environment machines are set up up by experienced techs. to do a specific job perfectly with a particular fabric and thread.
      It means that these are very versatile but at the same time much more "hands on" than we are used to with modern computerised automatic machines.
      You do need to test/adjust/retest things like tension and foot pressure especially if you routinely vary fabric, bobbin, and top threads. I use several different thread weights, and have a number of different bobbin cases already set up to work properly with each.
      When set up properly it's a brilliant machine for use in the home if you don't have room for a fully fledged industrial one (which are much less expensive by the way).
      I can understand frustration though when there are a number of different adustments and they need to be right to get it to work well.

    This video was very helpful. Thank you so much for creating it. I have a quick question I hope you can answer. My used Janome 1600p db has a problem with the bobbin winder. The switch on the front does not work. Also, up at the top, it seems like the mechanism is not very tight - it doesn't click. Any ideas what I should do to repair it? Thank you.

      I showed your video to my husband, how you took the "bonnet" off. He found the problem and repaired it. The little plug had come undone. Thank you so much!

    Question Do you know the use of the black leaver in front of bobbin case?

    • @annmarietaylor8065
      @annmarietaylor8065 3 місяці тому

      That is the thread cutter. You can watch it when you click the cutter if you open the cover

    • @mehere779
      @mehere779 2 місяці тому

      It jumps up and contacts the bobbin and stops it spinning when you use the thread cutter

      Do you mean a machine that can be operated without feet? If yes, can you operate knee control? Elna early supermatic have knee control lever. Or Elna air electronic models use a pneumatic air pedal, which can be placed on desk and use elbow while using hands to guide fabric. Or mount pedal inside desk knee area and lean thigh on it.

      Foot control? Yes. Actually plenty of computerized machines have a Start/Stop button which allows for sewing without the use of a foot control!

    Plastic gear driving the hook. The new ones have a plastic eccentric lifting the feed dogs. So as good as they are, failure will always be some time in the future.

      Yes, in that respect, nowhere near industrial standard. Thanks.

    My Vking Designer 1 bought new in 2001 has such a slower thread cutting mechanism that I never use it. Could it be because it's a computer driven machine?

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  2 роки тому

      Some of the domestic machines do have slow thread cutters. This one, being closer to industrial is reasonably fast. Thanks.
