Great video - I know what it's like to be so busy building / fixing, that you forget to document / film. Please provide updates on how the foam / pointing holds up as I also had issues with this and cork bark allowing water through and saturating the substrate over time. I plan to start building a new enclosure later this year and knowing if this works long-term would be helpful. Keep up the good work - I learn a lot from you and Serpadesign - thank you.

Some people seal grout some people don’t. I’m not sure what one is safe for animals either. I have tested sealing my work really early days but I always found the rocks looked wet so I stopped.
Water change every few months but the moss, movement and aeration keep it pretty good. I also get a bit of evaporation so I top up with freshwater every week or so.
Love these videos cam, question for you. Someone is telling me I should seal my background after using acrylic paint? I was planning on blending the acrylic paint in with my dry lock for each coat. Should I still seal it some how after? And if so what should I seal it with? Thank you for any response!
Honestly I don’t seal any of my builds. I find any sealer creates a glossy wet look and takes away from the natural rock finish. However I can’t confirm what it’s like using dryloc as I have never used or seen it in person (we don’t get it in aus)so I couldn’t be certain you’d need to seal it not sorry. So I just came across your page from a group that someone recommended you. My question is would this be possible for a chameleon enclosure? Everything I see for them seems kinda bland with just a few potted plants and misting system. I wanna create something that seems more natural and lively. Any advice or recommendations would be great! Thank you.
No reason you couldn’t create the same outcome using products you can get where you’re from. The tile pointing I use to coat with isn’t available outside Australia but you can achieve similar results I’ve been told using dryloc. Good luck with your build

If you’re removing it to rebuild it completely it’s pretty easy to do so. If you want to try and save it then you’re really going to struggle. There is ways of building the walls so they are removable
@@Cambart1 thanks for reply. The background is done but there are a couple of small things I want to remove and redo. so I wonder if it is actually possible.
The moss that died off on the background is cause the grout cures at a high ph which plants don’t like and die off the reason the wet Java moss made it is cause the moist grout cures wet for the full cure and the ph drops cause of the water running on it. In the US I us a product call Drylok that is the same issue. It has to dry first the initial cure then dry wet/moist for a 4-6 week process while the ph drops then the plants aren’t effected by it.
Hope it helps. Rinsing really really well then misting daily for a 4-6 week time frame will moist/wet cure it and plants will grow right on it. Great for epiphytic plants.

Yes mate that one was built with insulation foam panels and roof tile pointing.

Where did you get the vine and the branches?
I sourced on friends of mines property
If I'm using grout. Do I have to varnish it after? I've got some yacht varnish but it's satin. Amazing builds by the way.

Grout is safe for sure but the sealers I’m not sure on what you could use. Best bet is anything water based and non toxic

Curious how much of a plan you have before you start or if you usually just foam and then kinda go with the flow as you carve?
Pretty much just go with the flow. I have an idea where I want it to be but usually just placing foam pieces or starting to carve guides me more.

Yeah you can cut parts out and re do them but you may find you’ll need to coat the whole wall again unless you can blend or hide it.

Tempted to dislike, but you put in a lot of effort. Did I miss something? You never even show the full overall shot of the scape.
