This was a great opening to Dune 2. Seeing Paul, Jessica and their Freemen allies eluding the Harkonnens. Good to see Christopher Walker and Florence Pugh as Shaddam IV and Irulan.
Reverend Mother Mohiam played on the Emperor's weaknesses to manipulate him - the standard Bene Gesserit control tactic. Shaddam was insecure, jealous, and fearful and that was used to overcome his love for Duke Leto. Remember - Leto never married Jessica specifically as a political ploy to remain "eligible" for potential marital alliances with one of the other houses. He never intended to go through with it and in the end regretted not marrying Jessica. Shaddam was manipulated with his own frailties into using house Harkonnen to eliminate the one house that truly would have supported him as Emperor. Duke Leto would never have broken faith with Shaddam, but Shaddam was corrupt and could not believe everyone else wasn't just as corrupt.

It seemed kind of a waste to have Walken in the role of the Emporer. He had very little screen time, and what there was of it, could have been played by anyone. Maybe some good stuff had to be left on the editing room floor, but the role was minor and not memorable at all.
As a OG Blue Blaze Irregular I would say that Buckaroo Banzai, for its day, was just as strange and difficult to understand as DUNE, because there was no source material to read before watching it.
Not gonna lie. When I first found out that Christopher Watkin was going to be the emperor, I was actually kind of annoyed not because he’s a bad actor far from it. He’s one of the best in his craft. But because I felt that being the emperor wasn’t really, a fitting character for him it wasn’t important enough. I felt that he probably should’ve been a much more powerful individual. Yes being the emperor of “the known universe“ may seem like they are extremely powerful. But we all know that the people or individuals with the real power in this universe Are the spacing guild. Aside from obviously the individuals undertaking the stewardship of Arakis. Again, don’t get me wrong. Christopher Walken is a great actor. And as I have already said, he’s one of the best. But again I just felt that the Emperor was almost like a disservice to him. But he pulled it off well.
at this point stilgar probably didn't want to believe paul was the messiah, so if they died to the patrol then that solves one problem, also to see if they could carry their weight (my interpretation)
I threw some spice at my girl and i told her thats one jumps worth for the guild. It took her a minute to get it and she ran to pick it up thinking the spacing guild would be mad. I will marry this woman
Hey, Paul, little man....this was your father's Ducal Signet ring...he'd be DAMNED if he'd let any Harkonnen get his spicy hands on your birthright....
But the Harkonnen attack didn't take everyone by surprise. Leto had an idea, the Harkonnens knew, the Sardaukar knew, the Emperor knew....the Bene Gesserit knew.
Leto expected something, but not that early. What more was the sudden betrayal by Yu Wei that nobody saw coming. Hence, it was a surprise 🤷♀️ We don't get the reactions of the other major Houses, but I'd assume they were rather surprised Atreides was just gone in a night
When Irulan says "everyone" it's understood to be the Houses Major and Minor and the general populace at large. It doesn't need to be clarified, because she's speaking as someone on the inside, not someone on the outside. Also, the context is from her writing memoirs after the fact. "In The House of My Father" is an in-universe memoir written by her.
I get it that they decided to use Alia as a pre-born more, but I don't think they should've hurry the story in order to fit it into few months. After all, controlling their bodies is what Bene Gesserit do by default, it is safe to assume that they can slow down the pregnancy rate until it is safe to bear a child. I mean, bearing children is their very modus operandi, one could accept they'd be really good at it

Chris, you are genius actor. Thakj you for your work
the game they are playing at 1:22 is called Cheops.
It seemed kind of a waste to have Walken in the role of the Emporer. He had very little screen time, and what there was of it, could have been played by anyone. Maybe some good stuff had to be left on the editing room floor, but the role was minor and not memorable at all.
Should have cast Charles Dance as the emperor.
"Little blue fuckers...about this high." --Emperor Shaddam IV
It makes me so happy that they cast Christopher Walken as the space emperor 😂
2:07
2:09
Makes star wars look like buckaroo bonzai kids corner.
As a OG Blue Blaze Irregular I would say that Buckaroo Banzai, for its day, was just as strange and difficult to understand as DUNE, because there was no source material to read before watching it.
They are two completely different things.
Florence: “and the emperor said”
Me, in my mind: “nothing you idiots the emperors dead. (Haha)”
And The Emperor Said...." I Said Arrakis needed more Cowbell!"
Anyone else notice the similarities between the opening of this movie, and the beginning of the VNV Nation song Electronaut (from 2002)?
Dill with this "Moo ah diwb"
4:05 why did he tell them to stay while the enemy is approaching ?
at this point stilgar probably didn't want to believe paul was the messiah, so if they died to the patrol then that solves one problem, also to see if they could carry their weight (my interpretation)
something else I just thought of was using the two of them as bait for the ambush
Yes I too loved reading Dune.
"spice is power over all" it's the zact same in the Scottish jail's 😂
This version surpassed a movie that surpassed movies !
I threw some spice at my girl and i told her thats one jumps worth for the guild.
It took her a minute to get it and she ran to pick it up thinking the spacing guild would be mad.
I will marry this woman
Man, even the clips are twice as long as other movies
It looks like it spells Dunce, which one would need to be to pay to see it.
Christopher Walken was also in the orginal 1984 Dune film lol
"and the emperor said................... " OH NO COUNTRY BEAR HALL HAS BEEN CRUSHED!"
Hey, Paul, little man....this was your father's Ducal Signet ring...he'd be DAMNED if he'd let any Harkonnen get his spicy hands on your birthright....
Empower doesn't seem as powerful as I expected him to be.
Without dubstep these sounds would not have been possible 😂
'You weak, pathetic, fool." Shao Kahn
I mean, bearing children is their very modus operandi, one could accept they'd be really good at it
"The end of House Atreides" and the beginning of the galactic JIHAD. OOPS!
