At 41:39 you mentioned "...I stopped studying at the age of 17..."
I think you only meant studying Maths.
Because your vast knowledge transcends several subjects !
Very nice interpretation in the video, answers the low level mindset of some non Hindus (and some seculars who call themselves Hindu)

Calculus was invented by indians much before newton. Many people are not aware of these. There are lot of misconceptions about india. Lot of misconceptions about sanskrit language. Sinhala language has 80 percent of its words derived from sanskrit.I request guru maharaj to talk about these topics. People still believe in so many lies. Horrible things have happened to scholarly brahmins. Some of them became Muslims. Saddest thing is still people believe in so many lies.

    Dear Swami ji,
I apologize on behalf of those who have hurt your beliefs and sentiments in the name of religion. Islam strictly prohibits actions that may offend others, yet some modern scholars who don't have any knowledge and the essence of their existence , promote their own nafs(ego),beliefs, ideas, misguiding people causing division within the religion. We must remember the teachings of Islam to respect others' beliefs and fight against our own egos to discover our true purpose. Let's strive to understand the unique attributes of Divine almighty God and the essence of our existence.I would like to apologize once again for any offense caused to your sentiments and beliefs.

The real inspiration is to become a devotee of Krishna. Not to become Hindu or anything other than our true selves. So many people have got this wrong thinking that any sort of Hinduism is something to be proud of when we are not any of these temporary things. This is the illusion of material identification where we take pride in something that is not our real nature and not eternal. Everyone in the world is part and parcel of God not just Hindus. Of course some Hindus are also impersonalists or atheists too. Not real.

I have never smoked, I have been a a very occasional social-drinker (like may be a couple of pegs of alcohol once a month or so) ever since I had my first drink, and have always been pretty much a vegetarian most of the time.
Ever since I used my rationality to become an atheist, I have felt much more liberated, and much more secure than I ever did when I was a pretty devout, practising Hindu/Sanatana Dharmist.
No body needs any belief in any god of any religion in order to avoid harmful habits.

Aldous Huxley : "The Bhagavad Gita is the most systematic statement of spiritual evolution of endowing value to mankind. It is one of the most clear and comprehensive summaries of perennial philosophy ever revealed;hence its enduring value is subject not only to India but to all of humanity"
Henry David Thoreau : "In the morning I bathe my intellect in the stupendous and cosmogonal philosophy of the Bhagavad Gita, in comparison with which our modern world literature seem puny and trivial."

Refutation of allegations against hinduism: continued
    12. Lord Krishna is the supreme Male, and all living beings are his female energy. we all belong to god the supreme lover inside all hearts who is awaiting for the individual soul to look towards him.
    13. this is a strawman argument. India has a population of 1.45 billion people, more than the population of continent of africa and EU combined (1999 census). In such a mass of humanity you will find good and bad but statistically the rates of rape are low per capita in India compared to other countires.
14.Hindus do not worship any human appendage. The form of Lord Shiva in Lingam form represents the formless quality. The shape of the deity comes from the sitting meditation of Lord Shiva . The Linga is like an egg. It represents the Brahmanda (cosmic egg). Whatever that is contained in the Brahmanda is in the Linga. The whole world is the form of Lord Siva. For example, the shape of earth is round but perverted low IQ minds will think it is representing breasts, the problem is in the filthy minds and not dharma.
15.kujrao temple has these figures on the outside of the temple to depict the degraded condition of man. many temples will have mosaic reliefs and figures representing battles between the demons and the demigods- this does not mean that the temple is celebrating demons. Similarly the erotic depictions are showing the fallen condition of man lost in the illusion of maya and the goal to eave such things before entering the inner sanctum of the temple.
    16. Indra is a demigod not God the supreme. The position of demigods can be understood to be similar to angels and archangels. Demigods are not considered to be infallible. Even humans who do penances can take rebirth as demigods in their next life. Indra's activities show how even those higher than human's can be subject to illusion and fall down, it serves as a cautionary note to always abide in God's Love.
17.these items are transcendental beyond time and space. They appear and disappear according to the wielders command. Ordinary humans trying to touch such items would be akin to an ant trying to touch quantum particles.
    18. sanatan dharma believes in one supreme god, what you claim to be many god's like indra, varuna are demigod's.

I'm not even Indian, but I know the fact that before Mughals invaded Bharat Varsh Narayana was regarded as one true God. Sampradaya was like a gurukula where the teachings of Lord Narayana was fostered according to the spiritual level, and material desire of the disciple. If someone wanted unreal powers like hypnotism telekinesis they went through Shakti sampradaya, if someone wanted to win over death they went through aghora sampradaya. The Invaders realised the attachment of people towards different sampradaya so they used this knowledge to misguide the people who could never learn complex way of Vedas as they were the majority they easily accepted the idealogy of many gods and started fighting amongst themselves which is exactly what the invaders wanted. There is only one god , that true God is respected in Hinduism, Buddhism, Jewish,Abhramic religion ,Greek , Roman also Islam. Fools are those who only know the one side of story and contemplate the supremacy and dictate that only their religion is correct. Infact it has been proven time immemorial that there is one true God......

you dont know that for a fact friend! And thats simply because Mughals came almost in the end and they took control from Lodhis, also Muslims :) .
Several centuries before that, generations of very influential people (Muslims) controlling large territories believed differently and so did rest of India. Each believing differently. All until 11th century and then later thanks to the Europeans who compiled all these different gods and religions into one category for their convenience - hence the many gods.
As for the rest, respect to your beliefs I am not gonna raise any questions or make any comments about your beliefs. They are as dear and true to you and are mine to me. So, respect for you and your deities🙏 However, refrain from perverting history and push your own erroneous narrative inside out.

Great, These kind of debates are very common in our village festivals in Tamil Nadu. We must encourage the questinor and Swamiji. This discussions helps to trigger the settled human mind to evolve further.
Fitting a illogical spiritual space in to human logic is the effort we are doing here by these discussions... finally we will fail in argument(by words) and succeed by experience.

    19. scientifically this earth at a time was known as pangea where all continents were connected together as one land mass. Bharata was far larger than what is known as India today. In bhagavd gita all the various ethnicities are listed and recognized including the greek yonas Europeans, the chinese- chin, etc. Ancient civilizations were not european due to weather patterns. They were found in the Mediterranean region .The oldest of which is mycenean dating to 1000 bce. the vedic and dharma civilizations are dated to older than 2000-3000 BCE and had trade with ancient egypt- the blue lapis lauli stone used in heiroglyphics came from indus valley region of bharat. So the activites of demigods were not only isolated to current day India. These histories albeit with different names and renditions were well known in ancient rome, germany but were degraded through the vicissitudes of time

This is very interesting and unique. Anyone who says Vedic culture is irrational is themselves open to question. The understanding contained in the Vedas are highly logical and developed in many degrees beyond our present "scientific " framework. How one relates to Hinduism should be with respect. I am a Christian trained in Shivite Vedic /tantric practices. I see their wisdom but are based pre Jesus of Nazareth. My view and what I was taught is the Hindu/Vedic vendantan view is that Jesus Christ would be viewed as one SadGuru an Avatar among the many - all being one. I maintain a different belief . This does not negate the truth contained in the Vedas (as if I claim to know so much) It does not endorse a lack of love and respect for "Hindus" or anyone for that matter. Hindu scriptures stretching millenia reflect its endemic culture as do other religions. The proof of Christianity lies in a relationship with our Lord and our deeds that reflect it. Many like myself fall short. The the proof of others their relationship hinges on their basic beliefs actions and relation to their guru and gods that are one. Truth is not in argument but in relationship genuineness love and deed. As you in Bhakti might well agree? I wish you well and removing ignorance and hate. Namaste

I agree with the bit about getting justice at global level. I don't agree with the thought the Swamy converting to Hinduism....... this or the conversion is not important or relevant........gaining right knowledge, rational thought, be it via Hinduism or otherwise, is the key. This obtaining of right objective and rational knowledge is central to Hinduism. Hinduism is not bothered with, it is not concerned with converting people....far from it! That focus of conversion is very much a Christian and Islamic practice.

People who only accept direct perception(pratyakṣa) and logical inference(anumāna) as the only means to prove anything or only means to attain knowledge are the most foolish. They are like animals. Although they think themselves very rational, they are the most irrational. Being fool is one thing, but being proud of one's foolishness is just pitiable. To know about subjects which are beyond the empirical jurisdiction or grasp of our senses as well as intellectual capability necessarily require the words of those who are bona fide authority on those subjects which technically called Śabda pramāṇa. What they say must be accepted atleast for the sake of investigation into the truth regarding the transcendental subjects, and by following the path shown by such authority can we realise the transcendental reality. Among all such Śabda pramāṇas, Veda is the most infallible because it is apauraṣeya(without a conditioned soul as its author). Other persons are subject to various defects. And by following the path of the Vedas as received through bona fide paramparā, we can realise the transcendental reality. Hare Kṛṣṇa. 🙏 😊

Swamyji, what do you say about KARNA born to KUNTI, A virgin Lady, without Male intervention?

    • @BhaktiVikasaSwami
      @BhaktiVikasaSwami  2 роки тому +1

      (Managed by disciples):
Hare Krishna! Thankyou for the query. Karna was born to Kunti, indeed, with male intervention. This is mentioned in the Mahabharata and the same is mentioned by Srila Prabhupada in the purport of Srimad Bhagavatam canto 1, chapter 13, verse 3 as follows:
Prtha: Daughter of Maharaja Surasena and sister of Vasudeva, Lord Krsna's father. Later she was adopted by Maharaja Kuntibhoja, and hence she is known as Kunti. She is the incarnation of the success potency of the Personality of Godhead. The heavenly denizens from the upper planets used to visit the palace of King Kuntibhoja, and Kunti was engaged for their reception. She also served the great mystic sage Durvasa, and being satisfied by her faithful service, Durvasa Muni gave her a mantra by which it was possible for her to call for any demigod she pleased. As a matter of inquisitiveness, she at once called for the sun-god, who desired couplement with her, but she declined. But the sun-god assured her immunity from virgin adulteration, and so she agreed to his proposal. As a result of this couplement, she became pregnant, and Karna was born by her. By the grace of the sun, she again turned into a virgin girl, but being afraid of her parents, she quitted the newly born child, Karna.

      Hare Krishna 🙏
Kunti maharani is not an ordinary women ....she is a divine person who plays the role of the Lord 's paternal aunt in His pastimes....
In ancient India the sages were spiritually very powerful and due to their austerities and penances could give benediction to anyone they wished to.
When she was a child, her father Śūrasena had given her in adoption to his childless cousin and close friend Kuntibhoja (hence the name “Kuntī”). In her stepfather’s house, Kuntī’s duty was to look after the welfare of guests.
One day the powerful sage and mystic Durvāsā came there and was pleased by Kuntī’s selfless service. Foreseeing that she would have difficulty conceiving sons, Durvāsā gave her the benediction that she could invoke any demigod and by him obtain progeny.
Just out of curiosity to check whether the benediction really works or not she meditated upon the Sungid and to her utter shock He appeared and blessed her with a boy child ... being a Virgin lady she was scared of the chastisement she would have to face from the society and family, so she reluctantly placed the child in a basket and left him on the mercy of the Lord.
After Kuntī married Pāṇḍu, he was placed under a curse that prevented him from begetting children. So he renounced the throne and retired with his wives to the forest. There Kuntī’s special benediction enabled her to conceive (at her husband’s request) three glorious sons-
      Yudhiṣṭhira, Bhīma and Arjuna.

Vedic science and knowledge is more advanced than the modern unified field theory. Many people might not believe that ancient people had advanced technology like we ours today, however I believe they did. It might not look like anything we have today, or they might've used other methods such as acoustics. If they didn't have these mechanical technologies then that is way more impressive because they came to these same and more extensive conclusions through experience mainly. That speaks to their much higher connection to the all connected universe. As an American with a western/ 'LOGICAL' education, I was never more happy to be humbled my ancient knowledge from all over the world but especially vedic knowledge.
If anyone wants to see the material intelligence of ancient india then all one needs to do is look at the stone building techniques of the temples. Many built in ways we could not replicate today such as 1000 stone temple with no joints, micro carvings with tiny spaces and drill holes, and even the so called 'Warangal Fort' (not a fort, more like mass production warehouse of stone) and the perfectly polished lingum there.
The fact today were only educated on an intellectual level is probably the main indication of kali yuga.
Also Sanatana Dharma is localized in india is because it is a non-violent way of life. No need to try and oppress, convert, or kill your neighbors in the name of God when non-violence is your philosophy.
I don't know, just the thoughts from a dumb 'EDUCATED' Midwestern American without any real knowledge of the Vedas or sanskrit.. wait, NO. I don't want that identity.
Correction: thoughts from just another collection of energy in the universe. 🙏🏻

It is clearly beneath the level of HH Bhakti Vikasa Swami Maharaj to respond to these childish questions. But someone must do the dirty work so with his blessings I will humbly attempt to respond to the questions of this person, @jiya sm
    1. Bharatvarsha is the chosen land of The Lord and He comes here again and again. But in all parts of the world where religion declines, He empowers or sends those who surrender to Him displaying His potencies. Every big religion in all parts of the world has deep ties with Bharatvarsha. Like Jesus spending many of his formative years there. Even Islam is deeply influenced by ancient Sanatani traditions like circumambulation of temple, shaving heads, dressing in white robes for religious rituals etc. It is undeniable that spiritual knowledge flows through Bharatvarsha, then why would The Lord come anywhere else in His most pristine transcendental form?
    2. Like who? The Supreme Lord has one transcendental vehicle, the eagle Garuda. How is the eagle an Indian animal? Try telling that to the Americans
    3. The Lord takes birth in many families, in all varnas and sections of society, according to time place and circumstance. He comes as a Brahmin as The Dwarf Vamana, a Kshatriya as Lord Rama, a Transcendental Barbarian as Lord Parshurama, and when He comes in His transcendental form as Krishna Himself, He spends His early years as a Vaishya rearing cattle in the village of Vrindavan.
    4. Question is incoherent, but if it is 'where are the demigods', they are all around you at all times. You bow down to them with your right shoulder and humbly ask for blessings so you can serve The Supreme Lord and they will bless you
    5. Who said they dont visit the earth? They elude your vision because you have no desire to see them or to serve The Lord, only to create disturbance and quarrel with others. Why would they visit you then?
    6. In that time period The Lord exhibits different Leelas and demonstrates Rasas in sweet exchanges with His devotees. If the love that is invoked is the whole point of the exercise, then why would He skip it and go straight to the conclusion?
    7. The fact that Sanatan Dharma is the most ancient is inarguable, unimpeachable truth. You can make a little effort on your part with availability of powerful tools like internet. Quickly growing to a greater headcount of followers is a temporary phenomenon, and [according to what they call the Lindy effect] that which comes into existence later goes out of existence sooner. So we'll soon get over the hump.
    8. Polygamy is not forbidden as a hard principle in Sanatan Dharma, however it is exceedingly rare. Particularly only Kshatriya families, due to the nature of their profession which implied a higher probability of death in warfare, the need for more progeny and a general need for more masculinity than the average citizen for men. Therefore unorthodox practices like polygamy and meat eating were allowed to some extent.
    9. The Will of The Lord cannot be accommodated by your small brain. He does what He pleases, and He made Ganesha Ji as He pleased. He put an elephant head on him so you know him as Ganesha. As far as the sanctimonious tears over the life of an elephant, you can try to shed the same tears over the mind bogglingly cruel slaughter of millions of goats and chicken that is done every day in the name of food. When you have opposed that, I will answer as to what happened to the elephant
    10. Lord Rama did not go to kill the deer. Sita Devi requested Him to capture the deer and bring him to her. Not to kill it. He did kill it however, because it wasnt actually a deer but a demon disguised as one
    11. The Lord is fully cognizant of everything at all times. He only plays in this world to evoke thrill and love in hearts of those who surrender to Him
    12. There is no question of 'too'. There is only one Supreme Lord and He is the Supreme Person(adi-purusha) Shri Krishna, as confirmed by scriptures. All His avataras are one with Him and display His various potencies to differing degrees in different moods. As far as gopis are concerned, comparing the ordinary deals of mundane lusty relationships to the transcendental pastimes of The Lord that are untouched by a tinge of material contamination is a great offence and the cause for the fall of man into depths of hell. I pray humbly to The Lord to forgive your offence.
    13. Not as high as they are among Muslims, actually. But rape is a grave sin and should be punishable by dea†h no matter the relgiion of perpetrator(personal opinion)
    14. It is not the penÍs, it is the symbol of Shiva(representing infinity, yes Hindus knew about infinity when Christianity and Islam were not even in the womb yet). The penÍs thing is a complete lie fabricated by people of a particular faith to spread misinformation, weaken the faith of some uninformed Hindus, and capture the low hanging fruit
    15. Khajurao temples were created under specific circumstances by the local king to attract the youth of his region to sex life so they could build families again, since in the 8th-10th century the effect of Buddhism was widespread in the central part of Bharat and a lot of young people were becoming ascetics which was reducing the economic output of the kingdom. So Khajurao cannot be compared to any orthodox Sanatan practice. However I will note that Sanatan Dharma is so amazing and adaptable that even a wonder like this is possible without violating its invisible framework. There are many barbarian religions I can think of where it would be completely inconceivable to have something like this.
    16. Disgusting question verbiage, not even worth addressing
    17. Belongings of God are transcendental in nature and disappear along with Him. The entire city of Dwarika submerged underneath the ocean upon the departure of Lord Krishna to His Transcendental Abode(scientifically verified to the approx date of the event), then what to speak of His Personal belongings!
    18. "Ishvarah Paramah Krishnah Satchitananda Vigraha, Anadiradi Govindah Sarva Karana Karanam". There is no 2nd God, there is only one Supreme Lord, the Supreme Person Shri Krishna, eternally full of knowledge and bliss, The cause of all causes.
    19. First up, how could an all merciful God create one true religion and so many 'false religions' only send all people born in them to hell for eternity? For that matter, how could an all merciful God create a hell that is eternal? Hell is meant for rectification of people like you, so it is not eternal, but it may feel eternal because it is painful. Now to the question. The Lord absolutely is present in the heart of every living entity, no matter which country, or planet or universe it resides in. And even in His transcendental form He is present wherever there is a decline in the faith of people in Him. So for China and Japan, He travels as Lord Buddha to civilise them to some degree, as far as their advancement is. For Russia, they mostly worship Jesus who was himself surrendered unto Him, was empowered by Him and displayed His opulences. US is a materially advanced nation, but one which is the most spiritually degraded. So He spent His most intimate disciple Srila Prabhupada for their rectification.
Woah, that took some time to clean up. Hopefully this has helped you realised the error of your ways. Now say it with me, Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare. Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

It has been said that a modern newspaper contains more knowledge of the world than most people in the 18th century possessed. Most people didn’t know much of the world beyond their valley or hamlet village, not even aristocrats (one reason it is thought Shakespeare was a pseudonym for a royal courtier like Francis Bacon: A country bumpkin from Stratford-upon-Avon would not have access to the worldly knowledge or Greek and Latin found in Shakespeare’s plays).
So perhaps because the West was so far away and disconnected from the Rest of the world, historians didn’t have enough information about them. This began to change around the 18th century. Even the ancient Greeks focused their histories of Persia on the western portion they were privy to. Modern historians speculate the eastern half (dark side of the moon) may have been more important than the parts they were writing about such as Egypt, Anatolia, Syria, etc. They have a case as India and China were the centers of civilization traditionally. While the west had one or two cities like Rome and Constantinople, India and China had several.
“Everything has flowed down to us from the ganges.” Voltaire
Christian missionary and colonial spirit also tended to down-play the achievements and histories of colonized lands as a way to justify ‘civilizing’ and converting them. This is a principle reason ancient Sanskrit was not considered the root of Indo-European languages. The British, who had an interest in ruling India, concocted what is called ‘Proto-Indo-European’ to argue that the similarities of Indo-European languages were due, not to being descended from Sanskrit (the ‘latin’ of classical Vedic or ‘hindu’ culture), but rather a language closer to Europe (Proto Indo-European has no archeological evidence for its existence; it is wholesale concocted from the minds of modern linguists). The British wanted to portray their colonizing as a continuation of the so-called ‘Aryan invasions’ and to claim indians weren’t really indigenous. The German states on the other hand, who had no such ambitions in India, recognized the greatness of Vedic thought, such as the composers Beethoven (used the Upanishads as an inspiration) and Holst, the philosophers Schopenhauer, Deussen, Hegel, Schelling, Fichte (possibility Kant himself, Fichte’s inspiration), Herder, Goethe; the German romanticists Heinrich Heinz, Schelegel; The American transcendentalists as well: Thoreau and Emerson, Walt Whitman, Clarke, Johnson. Other westerners would similarly express admiration for eastern ‘hindu’ thought.
"India is the cradle of the human race, the birthplace of human speech, the mother of history, the grandmother of legend, and the great-grandmother of tradition. Our most valuable and most instructive materials in the history of man are treasured up in India only."
    Mark Twain, American author.
Scholars even speculate the ancient Greeks were greatly influenced by eastern thought, particularly the Ionian thinkers of Weat Anatolia (550-480 B.C.):
Heraclitus could not have arrived at such a system by pure reason, and it has many points of contact with Zoroastrianism and with the Upanishads. In the latter, souls which fail to pass the moon return to earth as rain and are reincarnated in whatever animal form is appropriate to their conduct in their last life.
The doctrine of reincarnation...had gained a foothold in Greece in the mid sixth century...Pythagoras believed in it, and it was taken up by Empedocles, who denounced the killing and eating of animals as murder and cannibalism, and implored men to abandon it [so did Socrates and Plato, who along with Pythagoras, all who advocated vegetarianism].”
The Oxford History of the Classical World
M.L. West used historical and philological approaches in an attempt to determine possible oriental influences on Greek thought. He considered Ionian thought, Pherecydes, the Milesians and Heraclitus, as well as figures such as Parmenides, Pythagoras, Empedocles and Anaxagoras Western Culture, Hindu Influence on (www.academia.edu/11981512/Western_Culture_Hindu_Influence_on)
    II
Modern attitudes have greatly changed about India since colonial times. Eminent American historian Will Durant:
India was the motherland of our race, and Sanskrit (What Is Sanskrit? (www.thoughtco.com/sanskrit-sacred-language-of-india-195482)) the mother of Europe's languages: she was the mother of our philosophy; mother, through the Arabs, of much of our mathematics; mother, through the Buddha, of the ideals embodied in Christianity; mother, through the village community, of self-government and democracy. Mother India is in many ways the mother of us all."
From the other side of the pond:
”It is already becoming clear that a chapter which had a Western beginning will have to have an Indian ending if it is not to end in the self-destruction of the human race. At this supremely dangerous moment in history, the only way of salvation for mankind is the Indian way."
    Dr. Arnold Toynbee, British Historian
Other modern notables on Vedic (‘hindu’) thought include Carl Sagan, Oppenheimer, and Shrodinger:
”Access to the Vedas is the greatest privilege this century may claim over all previous centuries.”
    J. Robert Oppenheimer
Most of my ideas & theories are heavily influenced by Vedanta“
    Erwin Shrödinger
During the European Age of Exploration, we get an early 16th century glimpse into the grandness of life on the Indian subcontinent. Domingo Paes, a Portuguese visitor in the 1520s to Vijayanagar, South India, provides a sketch of its civilization and king. Author David Keay (India, 2011.):
He refrained from guessing at its population lest the improbable figure be taken to impugn the rest of his account, but from a check on its markets he was convinced that it was also ‘the best provided city in the world’. Likewise the kingdom’s resources, about which Paes was less reticent: ‘the king has continually a million fighting troops [under arms].’ Paes:
This king is of medium height, and of fair complexion and good figure, rather fat than thin; he has on his face signs of small-pox. He is the most feared and perfect king that could possibly be, cheerful of disposition and very merry; he is one that seeks to honour foreigners, and receives them kindly, asking about all their affairs,
whatever their condition may be. He is a great ruler and a man of much justice, but subject to sudden fits of rage, and this is his title ‘Crisnarao Macacao, king of kings, lord of the greater lords of India, lord of the three seas and of the land’. He has this title because by rank he is a greater lord than any by reason of what he possesses ...but it seems that (in fact) he has nothing compared to what a man like him ought to have, so gallant and perfect is he in all things.
Krishna-deva-raya lavished on royal rituals, academic patronage and architectural extravaganzas. For his support of scholars Krishna-deva-raya was hailed as another King Bhoj. The city itself, covering thirty square kilometres, occasioned the sort of superlatives which a hundred years later would be showered on the Mughal capitals of Agra and Delhi. It ‘seemed to me as large as Rome, and very beautiful’ (ibid).
*ABOVE* Hampi, Virupaksha Temple entrance, Vijayanagara, ca. 15th century. Gopurams, or temple entrances often reached heights of up to 240 ft.
John Keays gives a lengthy description of the Gupta dynasty a thousand years before Krishna-deva-raya’s Vijayanagar:
Perfection has been attained,’ declares the last of the three Junagadh inscriptions. ‘While he [Skanda-Gupta] is reigning, verily no man among his subjects falls away from dharma ; there is no one who is distressed, in poverty, in misery, avaricious, or who, worthy of punishment, is over-much put to torture.’ Such a glowing depiction of Gupta society is to be expected from a royal panegyric. It is, however, corroborated by an alien and presumably impartial eye-witness:
“The people are very well off, without poll tax or official restrictions ...The kings govern without corporal punishment; criminals are fined according to circumstance, lightly or heavily. Even in cases of repeated rebellion they only cut off the right hand.
The king’s personal attendants, who guard him on the right and the left, have fixed salaries. Throughout the country the people kill no living thing nor drink wine, nor do they eat garlic or onions, with the exception of the Chandalas only.”

To Fa Hian (Fa-hsien, Faxian, etc.), a Buddhist pilgrim from China who visited India in c400-410, Chandra-Gupta II’s realm was indeed something of a utopia. Descending to India by the Karakoram trail, Fa Hian travelled the length of the Gangetic basin in perfect safety as he visited everywhere of note associated with the Buddha’s life. No caste distinctions attracted comment from the Chinese pilgrim, and no oppressive caste ‘system’ drew forth his surprised censure. Peace and order prevailed. And if the peace was the peace of past conquests and the order the rigid social hierarchy of varna and the professional exclusivity of jati, no one was complaining.
From other sources we glimpse a society industrious as well as contented. Those highly influential guilds (sreni) regulated elaborate systems of quality control, pricing, distribution and training for every craft and calling. They also acted as bankers, even to the royal court; and their sresthin, or aldermen, met regularly in a joint council that has been likened to a chamber of commerce. Trade continued to flourish, both within India and overseas. When Fa Hian returned to China he did so not by the long overland route but aboard an Indian vessel sailing from Tamralipti in Bengal. After a near-shipwreck off the Burma coast he reached ‘Ye-po-ti’, which could be Java, Sumatra or Malaya. There, as also in Indo-China, he reported that ‘Brahmans flourish although the law of the Buddha is not much known.’ After more nautical mishaps, he regained China, again in the company of brahmans and so probably aboard an Indian ship.
Thanks to the peculiarities of the caste system, Indian society also seemed admirably stable, if excessively stratified. But although in theory the ritual-and-pollution-based varna, and in practice the profession-based jati, precluded social mobility, Muslim writers seldom correctly identified the four varnas or divined the variety of the innumerable jatis. It would seem, then, that the ‘system’ was not obviously systematic. Kings of sudra or brahman origin, like those of Sind, were as common as those whose forebears were, or pretended to be, of the supposedly royal and martial ksatriya varna.
Nor was caste wholly prohibitive and repressive. Indeed it has been argued that caste membership conferred important rights of participation in the economic and political processes as well as obligations of social conformity. In other words, it was as much about being a citizen as being a subject. Through various rural and, more obviously, urban assemblies like caste and guild councils, endorsement of a particular leadership was demonstrated by attendance in the myriad rituals of state. ‘Rather than being excluded from the life of Indian polities, [castes] actively participated in it. Indeed, by doing so, they partly constituted it.’ Such participation in, for instance, the elaborate ceremonies involved in installing a new king or launching a digvijaya signified assent to the traditional fiscal and military expedients available to such a leader. But by caste councils, as by reluctant feudatories and vassals, such connivance in the political order might always be subtly withheld or transferred.
A further argument has it that caste assumed its passive and static connotations only after the Muslim conquest, when religious discrimination and oppressive taxation conspired to remove opportunities for political participation and economic advancement. Caste membership, shorn of its influence, then became primarily a distinguishing characteristic of orthodox Indianness, or ‘Hinduism’ (ibid).
      Containing Conflict; Minimizing Its Effects
Politically, according to Muslim observers, India comprised many kingdoms, each with a formidable army that included elephants and cavalry as well as infantry. According to a Baghdad adage quoted by al-Biruni, the Turks were famous for their horses, Kandahar (for some reason) for its elephants, and India for its armies. One of India’s rulers, ‘the Balhara’, was reckoned as being amongst ‘the four great or principal kings of the world’ according to the much-travelled merchant known to us simply as Suleiman (the other great rulers were the kings of Baghdad, of Byzantium-Constantinople, and of China). Admittedly ‘the Balhara’s’ claim to be India’s king of kings was constantly under threat; but in the opinion of Suleiman, who made several trips to India during the first half of the ninth century, this did not necessarily occasion great upheaval. India had learned to contain conflict and to minimise its effects.
“The Indians sometimes go to war for conquest, but the occasions are rare. I have never seen the people of one country submit to the authority of another, except in the case of that country which comes next to the country of pepper [i.e. the Malabar coast]. When a king subdues a neighbouring state, he places over it a man belonging to the family of the fallen prince who carries on the government in the name of the conqueror. The inhabitants would not suffer it to be otherwise.”
Once again one is reminded of Megasthenes’ description of agriculturalists ‘ploughing in perfect security’ while armies did battle in the next field. Although the ploughmen may have had a stake in the outcome of the battle or may have contributed to the equipage of one of the protagonists, they were not expected to get involved. Warriors fought with warriors; the ploughman’s dharma was to plough (ibid).

    • @Agnet_Faze
      @Agnet_Faze 3 роки тому +1

Nobody has such infos....The only things you will get are those manuscripts or maybe how they were collected but nobody knows when they were written and who wrote them... because it's so ancient that nobody has a clear record on that...if we did know who wrote them, then Hinduism would also be having a founder or many different founders today which is not the case...
Nobody even knows who wrote the Vedas...And Rig Veda is known by UNESCO to be the most ancient scripture that has ever existed...And Rig Veda has been preserved in the form of Manuscripts in India...And they even said that the manuscripts weren't even original because maybe the Vedas existed longer than and they were spreading the knowledge orally that's until they decided to make them as manuscripts....
