  • An Akia 1730D-SS reel to reel 4 channel deck. This was made in the mid 70's. I recapped it and replace the 2sc458 transistors with ksc1845.

Nice job. Got the switch cleaned up nice. The other day I broke one of those little tabs that hold the switch together...

Thanks, switches can be a weak link in the signal path. Quite often DeoxIT isn't good enough.

HI Pat, how did open those monitor switches? Those small metal pins are very hard to open but very easy to break!

I need to replace the cams in my 1730D-SS. Have you done that? Know the part numbers, where to find them. Thanks.

Hey I’ve got one of those machines it was I. Good working order until.. it fell in a move and the tape spindles broke off… any ideas on where or what I could do to find new spindles for this machine?

I have the same machine. It was working till it was on for a long time and the motor start run capacitor blew out. I have replaced it with a single 2 microfarad cap but the entire machine remains dead, no lights come on, nothing works. Can you offer any advice? Thanks

Hi. Thanks for the video. Would you like to know where to find the KSC1845?

Thanks for watching. You should be able to find the KSC1845 at Digikey or Mouser.

@@patrickoconnell3896 Thank you very much. I will search these sites. Another help. I checked the technical manual and some of the capacitors used on the boards are different from those shown in the manual. Is it better to use the capacitor values in the manual or on the board? Example: The capacitor C117 in the manual is like 3.3uF / 25V and on the board is 1uF / 25V.

Many times they will make changes and not change the manual. Sometimes someone put the wrong part on the board. I will use what size is on the board. Also you may not find a 1uF 25V cap. I would use a 50V. You may also want to search AudioKarma and Tapeheads for information on this deck.

I don't remember just how I did it. The service manual does have a break down of it. HiFiEngine.com will have the manual.
