@@loner2025 no MonsterVerse is about titans that try to restore the balance in the nature And rival fights While pacific rim universe is about a giant robots vs kaiju that try to take over the world
I still love what the "everything changed" part is actually referring to. It's part of what makes this film great there's a lot that happens that only makes sense on a second watch. The thing that changed is that the Kaiju learnt how to "kill" Jaegers. See before then the Kaiju are fighting the Jaegers as though the Jaeger is alive, attacking its arms legs torso but after Knifehead cripples Gypsy Danger by attacking its head all the Kaiju learnt that the head is the weak spot. In the scene where the Jaeger program is pronounced dead, we see the destroyed jaegers in a few cuts. All of them are damaged heads. Every single one. In fact, not a single jaeger in the film is destroyed by a kaiju without losing its head. What's even cooler is that when we see the three active jaegers (minus gypsy) they all have some special difference to standard jaegers which makes going for the head harder. Churno Alpha's head is "hidden" in its chest, with a decoy head on top of its tower. Crimson Typhoon has an extra arm and is piloted by three people and it's extremely agile this coupled with its nonstandard "cyclops" head makes targeting that difficult. Striker Eureka is too fast, and heavily armed, it's so advanced it can go toe to toe with a Cat 5 and win, the kaiju don't have time to go for its head. But it keeps getting better. Because we also find out that the wall is being built but soon afterward we see Mutivore breakthrough (in less than an hour), so the Kaiju now know about the wall, and low and behold the next two kaiju to come through the breach are both capable to bypass the wall in less than that time. Leatherback is built like a gorilla it can climb over the wall with ease, Otachi can fly the wall isn't going to stop her. But these kaiju are more than that, they are anathema perfectly designed assassins to target the last three operational jaegers. You see when Newt drifts with the kaiju he accidentally reveals the weaknesses and strengths of the three jaegers (but not gypsy), that's why Otachi and Leatherback handled them so easily. There was no way at all for the three jaegers to beat these two kaiju without getting lucky. Otachi has the acid and three limbs; wait three limbs, the exact same number as crimson typhoon, and not just three limbs but an extra precise tail with a head-crushing claw at the end perfect for sniping jaeger con'pods. The acid on the other hand is brought exclusively to fight Cherno Alpha the most heavily armoured jaeger there is. Again that's oddly specific. Then there's Leatherback, obviously, the EMP was there to knock out Striker but it was also there to knock out Crimson Typhoon if needed since the Mark 4 and 5 jaegers were vulnerable to EMPs. Then it has the big dextrous arms, these are not only there to climb the wall if necessary but also for specifically killing Cherno Alpha, see Cherno Alpha's secret weapon is that its con'pod isn't in a typical location it's in the chest and heavily armoured and then there's the fake one on the top of its tower. But when Leatherback is fighting cherno it doesn't go for the fake one, it ignores it and goes straight for the real one crushing it deliberately. The one thing these kaiju weren't expecting was gypsy, they thought it destroyed by Knifehead even newt didn't know it was operational, at best he might have heard about the incident of both pilots chasing the rabbit and it not being operational before he left to find Hannibal Choi. So when Gypsy turns up the kaiju have to improvise (and both do), but gypsy is better than new and the pilots are extremely skilled but even then Otachi comes close to destroying it only Macho knew about the sword though so Otachi was blindsided by its sudden appearance. The final three Kaiju are designed to specifically fight the surviving two. Scunner is a sneak and a tank, it hides in the shadows and can tank a lot of damage, Raiju is extremely fast designed to be faster than either jaeger, its job was to snipe Gypsy's sword arm and take the weaker jaeger out of the fight whilst Slattern dealt with Striker. Slattern the first Cat 5 is extremely smart, the first thing it does is knock out Striker's cannons, then it tries to finish the jaeger off quickly, going straight for the head. It's only the fast reaction of the pilots that counter this move, so it immediately moves to outmaneuver the only mobile jaeger since gypsy has been crippled (missing most of a leg). In the end, the move sort of works, since Striker has to sacrifice itself to take out Scunner and cripple Slaattern but the Cat 5 is still alive, it's only creative thinking by Gypsy that kills Slattern (a move the Kaiju don't know about). Thank you for reading. I love this film, I hope I've given you a new appreciation for it.

Good world-building. In 3 minutes, Pacific Rim brought the audience up to speed and kept us invested. Here's hoping for a third movie more in the spirit of the first.
Dear lord, coming back here just brings back so much nostalgia and memories. That one scene of Romeo Blue fighting the kaiju with the music playing in the background, and when he groans and screeches while fighting. Its so beautiful and inspiring at the same time.
I remember watching this movie first day, first show. The energy in the theatre was amazing, the audience really enjoyed the hell out of this movie. I really believe Pacific Rim took everybody by surprise. I have watched all the Marvel movies in theatre with it's crazed fans but till date nothing could match the frenzied atmosphere on the very first screening of Pacific Rim. Atleast, that's my personal experience and for that reason i will always remember this movie.
I really wonder, when fighter jet pilots in movies stop flying so close to their targets. I can’t bear the stupidity of this writing in every damn action movie.
Because it's a not stupid writing. It's a nod to an old 70s/80s anime trope of sending in fighters to establish how under gunned conventional units were in stopping the bad guy, and yes one or two fighters inevitably got knocked out by a conventional melee attack. Seeing this in Pacific Rim made me grin like a loon because it reminded me of watching the same thing in Getter Robo during the early 90s.

All things considered, 3 cities were destroyed and only 10's of thousands died, out of a population of likely several million. The people in this film got pretty lucky.
You can say that but it's pretty logical that the casualties were low because even if you see in this scene when that kaiju destroyed the golden bridge there was no one on it every one was safely evacuated (well maybe most of them). So the military was tracking it path and they figured it will go through these cities so they evacuated it in advance and as you said the population was in millions. Not all of them was evacuated.(it is also possible them those who died were the soliders who took tried to took him down
I always wished, after I saw this in 2013, that this was a three movie trilogy. With the first movie being about the first, or first few monster attacks, how they stopped at first, what was learned about them, set up the world and story, end with a big fight and win, but the characters understand they need a new way to defeat the monsters. 2nd film would be about the Jagers, how they were built, how they were operated, how they were used ect. and ending with a big and successful fight at the end. And then the last film is this one... the glory days of Jagers are gone, they have to close the portal now, and its the big fight at the end to stop the threat permanently, like what happened in the movie. This opening shows how much more could have been done, it would have been a great scifi trilogy.
A crossover intro would be like this: Then it all changed, in our fight against the kaiju, we had awoken something. An ancient Alpha Predator, a Titan has awoken from slumber. None of the Breach Kaiju are able to beat him, he ignores any Jaegers and leaves after he kills the kaiju. But soon enough, we had visitors, a group dedicated to researching Titans, Monarch revealed that this Titan has a name. His name is Godzilla.
When he said it all changed, it did. When gypsy danger fought knifehead and it killed raleighs brother in gypsy's hull/head, that's when the precursors found the jaegers' weakness, the head. It's why the jaegers' golden age died. The precursors found the jaegers' weakness.
One thing I wished they expanded more or talked more of was how killing the Kaijus was also killing the world. How newton said the kaijus came to terraform the earth. Their blood causing shifts in the environment and nature. They kill the world so the precursors (the aliens crating the kaijus) can come over and completely terraform it. Quite crazy and awesome
"So in conclusion, we have two choices: We can ramp up production of conventional arms - tanks, jets, artillery, to a level not seen since the Second World War. Or, sir, we can build some motherfuckin' robots."
Considering conventional weaponry is practically useless against the Kaiju, using the first option wouldn't amount to much. Even if they manage to kill Trespasser, there are still more Kaiju to contend with. Plus, Kaiju blood is toxic as frick. If they somehow manage to make it as far as canon, what would they do about Kaiju that could take a 1.2 megaton thermonuclear bomb to the face and still function well enough to potentially destroy a Jaeger other than blow it up with nukes?

Wasn't the 2nd attack Manilla, not the first?
@@Aniviper no the first kaiju smashed up San Francisco, Sacramento, and Oakland .

The fourth time they figured out it wasn't gonna stop?? Christ, what were they waiting for, an email from the monsters?
Maybe they thought the kaijus were prehistoric creatures, I don't know.
First time: Oh they might be just a sea creature coming up from the depth.
Second time: Giant monster from sea again? What in marine happened there?
Third time: Gosh more giant monster? Hope this will be the last one.
Fourth time: Ok it's a planned invasion.

I like how they added in the end that people eventually made propaganda, memes, and merch out of the kaiju threats, effectively melding them into modern day culture like what happened in World War 2 with several superhero comics and propagandas

Seeing Romeo Blue in action even for a few seconds is still more memorable than Uprising
“Turns out I was looking in the wrong direction” is better than uprising😂
@@BoweDiesel one while frame of thia movie is better
@airlockengage well, it happens all the time in adult movies. Can‘t accept that. 😄

Try Shin Godzilla if you wanna see a military that actually acts like a military.
They still lose of course, but they actually try and play it smart and don't just toss their soldiers and weapons towards the monster like rocks.
There's even constant communication between the army and the government the whole time.

Personally I bought a physical copy around when it was released globally. Physical copy includes both dub and original audio with subs.
Funimation handled the American release so you can watch it through their streaming service with a subscription.
You can also pay to watch it right here on UA-cam (dubbed).
VUDU, Google play movies, Amazon Prime, and FandangoNOW, also seem to have it.
One of the best opening sequences of all time. Hooks you immediately.
Trespasser is such a badass name for the first kaiju
0:43 To this day this is the coolest shot of any monster movie I've seen. Even the new Godzilla doesn't hold a candle to this.
Not all of them was evacuated.(it is also possible them those who died were the soliders who took tried to took him down
Pretty realistic
Pretty realistic, because there are always low death in real life big events
I took my son to the cinema to see this, it blew his mind! Happy times
Imagine watching this awesome scene in IMAX. My blood boils immediately.
Honestly Pacific Rim doesn't need a sequel, it needs a "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters" style prequel series expanding on this entire prologue.
Kaiju: giant beast. Jaeger: hunter. What a perfect intro. That's all you need to know.

What a fantastic opening to the only pacific rim movie to ever exist.

GODZILLA X THE JAEGERS: THE BULLYING OF THE KAIJUS
A crossover intro would be like this:
Then it all changed, in our fight against the kaiju, we had awoken something.
Reading that in the narrator's voice sounded badass
Loved this opening sequence from the first movie, had a lot good writing of what Kaiju and Jeager is and their origins.
This movie is so good. I just watched a 3:14 video and now I wanna watch this movie again.

Why is the Jaeger program setbacks footage in black and white when the first Kaiju showed up at the same time F-22 jets existed????
True
Blood censorship?
You know how in infomercials all of the "has this ever happened to you?" footage of the inferior product is in black and white?
"To fight monsters.. we create monsters"
Meanwhile a dude with horse and a bow..
"Ummm.."
3:02 when the fire nation attacked
Giant monster movie: monster hmm i,have the sudden erge to destroy a bridge
