I actually can. I work in an operating room, where my hair is covered and people rarely see it. Whenever I come in without a scrub cap on, ‘others’ always have comments about my hair. ‘That looks fun.’ ‘How does your hair do that?’ ‘Is that yours?’ I stop them before they can ask to touch it.

We so called African Americans are the true Hebrew Israelites. We are not Africans .It was the Africans who sold us into slavery. Read Deuteronomy 28 . It tells you about the blessings if we would have been obedience to the Lord . It also talks about the curses for not obeying his law statutes and Commandments. We are living it out till this day . I hate ignorant people I remember when this girl out of no where came to me and touched my hair and was like “Oh it’s actually soft” I looked at her shook my head chuckled and continued on with my day. There wasn’t a reason for me to give her any type of thought or recognition. They don’t wanna see us shine boo. I love you keep up the amazing work❤️‼️

I just moved to Duluth Minnesota about a week and 3 days ago and I got an interview on Tuesday at an elementary school. I took the single plaits out that my mom did for me and rocked my braid out with two left to make a braid crown. I walked in that piece with my fro and got hired on the spot. They've been having the NAACP talk against how there is low key racism in this up and coming area that they have no choice to comply and hire people. So I was waiting for them to say something, but they didn't. Your former boss obviously found you attractive or he wouldn't have been checking out your attire. Your fro exudes power, and he couldn't bare to look at it because he is not in the same standing as you child of the Most High!!! They will always feel threatened because they do not hold the same for you have! Continue being a blessing sis!
It was her catch phrase, she became a meme. She used her viral fame to make herself successful shiiit she is smart. I once had a manager tell me to go hide in the back when someone important in the company was coming in because my hair looked crazyyy, it was in a afro btw. My manager was black which makes it worse to me.
The fact that she is black makes sense. We were taught to dislike our hair, most of us were relaxed before we went natural. So, it shouldn't surprise us when our own ppl make negative statements.

Yup. I know about this as well. I was having a similar convo with a co worker about why mainstream black music is so violent, disrespectful, and clownish. My white director came over after he over heard our convo and set down right across from us and said "ooohhh I really want to hear this convo." I quickly changed the subject because I will not let my disgust for how black people are portrayed in mainstream media to be his entertainment. And my experience with afros was a little different at this particular job... They would over compliment me. It began to make me uncomfortable how many compliments I got daily from these people. I told a co worker who had a sew-in that I never had one and a white girl jumped into our convo to call me liar. The same white girl who is one of the people who would over compliment me. They really have issues that they try to project onto us. I'm proud of you for standing your ground and good luck with your entrepreneurial ventures. 😘
I enjoyed that story time while I was doing my hair. Its unfortunate that as African Americans we endure so much in the work place. Especially with black hair. Its wonderful to see more women engraving there hair and natural hairstyles. We have love each other and build one another up. Stay blessed keep the stories coming
I cant believe this ! and your very right we have to censor ourselves sooooo much people are BOTHERED by us naturally, our confidence scares people for whatever reason...... sound like he needed to stop being nosey and i would have politely told him that !!!!! Like sir nobody was talking to you in the first place ! ughhhhhh its frustrating and this is one of the reasons why I am trying to figure out what kind of business I want to start for myself !
No matter how a black person wears their hair wether it’s in a Afro, braids, dreads, waves, weave, etc.. we can never win. Someone at school or work always has some passive aggressive comments towards my hair.
I'm so sorry for you all's negative experiences wearing your God- given, natural, beautiful mane, but I too am a natural afro wearing "sister", from the "AKA" racist south (Alabama), but 98% of my experience wearing my natural hair has been positive!!! I actually get more compliments from white people than blacks. I'm a licensed nurse, who works for the state, and I wears my natural 4c hair down, to the office. I get soooo-many admiration comments from white women about, the fullness and texture of my hair, and I am constantly being hit on by none-black males, on and off the job. I began my natural hair journey in 2010, and there were VERY few African-American women in my city with natural hair at this time, so I initially received negative comments, mainly from our own race of people at that time; comments like, your hair is so "nappy", why don't you perm/straighten your hair ect..... If white people were thinking it, they definitely didn't speak it, not to me, of course. Stay strong my Beautiful-Black natural hair wearing sisters. I leave you with these words of encouragement; for the Lord does not see as man sees, for man looks at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart ( 1 Samuel 16:7).

I think it went well. It was a group interview for Whole Foods. I'm just waiting for them to call or email that i didn't get or got the job. I think I stood out compared to the other applicants, but that could just be me stroking my inner ego.
If he's is unsure about the message then how can he be offended?

Girl I understand people are ignorant. We can't ever be ourselves in the office workplace. I couldn't even wear my natural hair . I had to wear weaves I definitely toned and altered my look in the office workplace. It's pitiful and ridiculous. I do agree if your boss would've been black she would have been called,unprofessional,ghetto and every word in the book.

Aren't all bosses twisted and low-key racist? I got fired for "excessive absences." Honey that wasn't the case. I got hurt with a faulty machine they thought was innovative. They chose a group of us to participate in this test and as time went by I got hurt. I failed to report the incident because I'd got hurt before,reported it,and all injuries were blatantly dismissed so I went to my own doctor and it put them in a "legal position" and the asshole writes me up for "going against company policy." This time around was different and after writing me up, kept tabs on me for "incident reports of near misses and close calls" false accusations against me from people in other departments of the plant.did I mention I worked in a factory? He compared his not so loud voice to mine.for one I don't like to be compared to nobody.my job was vocally demanding. I was responsible for picking parts for cabinets and did so with a headset. Their doctor doesn't know anything. I went three times for them to tell me the same thing each time since then I didn't show up because of the pain I was in.they took it as excessive absences and called me to terminate me. He lowkey ignored my telling him I was still in pain after being sent back to work way too early.i was supposed to go back to the doctor in fourteen days after the first visit not a week and a half after the incident.smh 😧😤

Honestly, I agree with the Original comment. I can see where and why sometimes natural hair can be considered unprofessional. It all depends if the industry u work in tho. For obvious reasons hair must be kept neat in food industry. And sometimes our hair is so big that it doesn’t fit a hair net. I have single braids down my back and have significant trouble keeping all of that covered up in my college cafeteria where I work. But Especially in an office setting or a workplace that requires you to meet clients and or represent a company. And some offices just like their employees to have a clean look. So really u can’t be coming in to work with an Afro 2 miles wide and one mile long and not expect people to ask you to tame your hair. Even if it is casual Friday. Casual Friday means plain jeans and T-shirt or a dress down of usual office attire, not come in looking like a broke college student or a discount member of the black panther party😳🤭So it isn’t so much a referendum on natural hair as it is a dress code to keep the employees looking clean and as neat as possible. If she wore the hairstyle she wore in this video to an office setting and they still had a problem with then that’d be an issue but untamed or unkept hairstyles is understandable while that could be against common and simple dress code that is in most workplace settings. So this means keeping ur natural hair to a reasonable width and height and generally out of ur face. As a general rule if people can’t see past ur hair or it’s twice as big as ur face then it probably isn’t all that appropriate for the workforce. There’s nothing racist about that. Just my opinion btw. Feel free to POLITELY educate me if u feel differently. Probably about to get dragged tho😂😅🤷🏾♀️Love the channel Alexis😅🙃
