Hi David, yes it should be changed from time to time. I service my mowers every other year and I only change gearbox oil on every other service, so every 4 years. Obviously it depends on how much you use them. We only have 2 acres and 2 mowers, so each is only doing about an acre each. Mine has a full cap on top and a fill level plug on the side. So you have to either remove it from the mower so you can drain it by inverting it or you’d need to use a sump pump. Refilling is easy, just add gear oil until it reaches the level of the fill level hole. Use a good quality gear oil of 80 or 90 weight. Hope that helps 😉👍
Hi Roger, thank you for your comment. I’m not sure what you mean by “blade shaft”? As I recall the only thing I replaced was the bearings. Generally parts are a little elusive but I’ve determined that many of the components are actually universal between the “manufacturers”. So best thing to do is to take a number of key measurements and then contact a few different companies to see if they have compatible parts. I recently found new blades for this mower this way. Hope this helps. 😉👍
Hi Farmer Phil, it was awhile ago now, but I do recall it being a bit of a struggle to find these. I believe in the end I found these at a local tractor and garden equipment repair shop. Sadly they are no longer operating. I will try to remember to measure the pipe on Saturday and message you again. The fittings will need to be “sized” to the pipe, once we’ve identified that.
Hi, great video, thanks for sharing. Does the gearbox oil need changing when servicing and if so, how do you do that?
