I think the thing that bothers me the most about the animation is weight. Everything seems… hard and plastic. And too light. If a giant beast nudges you, you are bumped to the side. Most of the actions seem to be too fast and sudden. Another point is how each of the creatures interacts with its environment, and how the environment reacts to the creature. Dust forming from a heavy landing, trees waving a little. I understand the budget was low, but still.
I can kinda get behind the Night Light turning the light off in the first episode. It gives the idea that it's toying with its prey, like many intelligent animals do, and it also shows that it has experience with taking out lights, as if it has killed people before (although that implication might be weird to attach to your secondary main character). That and strange behaviour in general can be creepy. I agree it's weird but I can see what they were going for.
I *really* dislike the Night Light's design... His eyes are too big and too high on his head, and his nose sits too far above his mouth. His wings are oddly shaped, his tail looks weird, and his body proportions are off (the torso is too long and the legs aren't stubby enough). All of these changes from Toothless and the Light Fury's designs are subtle, but the little stuff adds up. I showed a clip of him to my roommate (who isn't familiar with the franchise) and her initial reaction was disgust.
what really stands out to me is how they probably rushed the story. a method i like to use when i make my dragon "comics" is to make one story, figure out what's wrong with it and remake it so it makes sense, and repeat that until it's a good story. they probably didn't do that x_x
I'm honestly fine with the art style. But the problem is that the main character himself doesn't match the art style of the other characters. Thunder grew on me somewhat, I thought his snout looked weird before. And I'm pretty sure my theory that this new variant of NightLight is somewhat a mix of Skrill.
i also dont like how they tried to establish a romance between jun and tom, the two of them feel so hollow and there's really no chemistry other than "he's a guy and she's a girl" im also not sure whether the glasses girl likes tom too but if she did, how would you feel about that?
Actually... Dogs CAN bite out of no where, showing no warning before biting. Or being VERY friendly before turning and biting for no reason. Dog I knew, very friendly, I was petting said dog, then as I pulled my hand away... CHOMP... bit me. No reason. Though I didn't get mad at the dog, it did bleed and did very much hurt
Same sort of thing happened to my mother, one of the neighbors dog's she was well acquainted with seemed super excited and came running up to the fence, she waited a little bit so he'd calm down, then reached down but he suddenly jumped up and chomped, he's NEVER been known to bite when excited.
As someone who prefers quite a bit of detail in movies/films, I feel that they could’ve and should’ve added more detail, I think that if they made the feathers on the nervous dragon more light looking and more pastel or white it would’ve looked better. Keep in mind this is my own opinion, so I’d prefer not to be insulted in the comments about this. Thank you
Wasn't so happy about what you said at start but you pulled back around. One of things I hate about what's been happening with these kind of videos about this series is that they only shared the bad. So thanks for sharing both the good and the bad of this series.
I think the 'nine realms' thing is a reference to Norse legend where Earth which is known as Midgard in the Norse legend is one of nine worlds connected to the branches and roots of a tree of life known as Yggdrasil. The other eight realms connected to Yggdrasil along with Midgard are: 1. Asgard 2. Muspelheim 3. Alfheim 4. Niflheim 5. Helheim 6. Jotunheim 7. Vanaheim 8. Svartalheim I'm curious how they'll incorporate this into the show because since the title is 'The Nine Realm' so it has to have meaning to the story otherwise it might be pointless.

A 2nd season was actually greenlit, supposed to drop May 5th, so that's exciting. I've already stated previously that I did really enjoy this show, I didn't find the references annoying or overused but I was glad it gravitated away from them after episode 2. I saw a great comment on another review video, and it pointed out that this season suffers a lot from setup syndrome, and quite frankly its right. Season 2 is supposed to have an additional episode so hopefully it's flushed out a bit more. Of course a low budget doesn't help things either, with KFP now getting it's own TV show in the future it's clear where all the money went judging by the screenshots of the show. The potential is still very much there, and Season 2 does look pretty exciting imo. I was also wondering why Uberdenken hadn't uploaded a review of this show yet and now I know why, lol.
Honestly I have no problems with the show but I’m not saying it couldn’t be better for sure also the night fury and nightlights as well as the light fury are smart and could easily tell that Tom wasn’t a threat
My Previous Comments Aside I Do Love Your Video Though It Was Great As I’ve Said Before I Do Respect Your Opinion So Don’t Take Anything I Say As Being Disrespectful Also Saying That HTTYD Fans Have Swept The Flaws Under The Rug Is Far Beyond The Truth (From My Experience At Least) (Sorry ForAll The Comments BTW I’m Not Trying To Spam Your Notifications I’m Just Very Passionate About Things I Love)
I think my biggest issue with 9 Realms is that the riders and the dragons arent designed to fit together Like look at the Berkians and their dragons, they all share design quirks like shapes, colors and even personalities. If you looked at them never having seen the series, you would easily be able to place Rider with Dragon But this series doesnt do that at all. None of them really look alike or share personality traits. Its like they designed everything seperately and then just shoved everything together and hoped for the best
What I don't get is why some people expect fans to settle and be GRATEFUL for half-baked garbage that's clearly had very little thought put into it just because it's attached to a property we love. Especially when compared to other HTTYD spin-offs. Riders of Berk and Defenders of Berk was great, despite its numerous animation errors, which have since come to be part of the charm. Race to the Edge was straight up the highlight of my early teens and introduced the world to Viggo Grimborne (Viggo is an actual Viking name by the way and means 'war.' Just a neat little tidbit) But this show has virtually nothing going for it except having the HTTYD name slapped over it. The characters are mostly disrespectful little brats to both each other and the artifacts they find. They have no regard for each other's feelings, especially Jun, and have maybe one or two relevant personality traits that are more annoying than interesting. I feel like most of the problems with this show could be solved if it focused on, say, a modern descendant of the Vikings of New Berk, (not necessarily a descendant of Hiccup) who's grown up hearing these stories of dragons and found them interesting, but never thought they were true. Until the dragons decide it's been long enough and start leaving the Hidden World on their own. I can't even begin to imagine what would happen in the age of social media when videos of dragons started popping up from every corner of the planet. We could see the world of dragons globally, not just this one Scandinavian archipelago we're used to. It would also be low-key kinda funny to get some jokes about dragons humbling stupid influencers or big corporations getting in way over their heads trying to exploit them and the dragons just be like "nah, we've done this song and dance before. Back tf up" Especially with dragons like Monstrous Nightmares and god forbid -The Skrill. THAT would be a battle for the ages!
