Just to show how different our opinions are: I literally think that the ONLY bad thing about this game is that you unlock Luigi after getting all the stars with Mario and you have to collect ALL THE STARS AGAIN AS LUIGI just to get the last star and 100% the game But hey, that's precisely why I watched the video. I hate that as a big Mario Galaxy offender, this is probably the worst analysis I’ve ever seen cause it’s blowing the things I genuinely critique out of proportion and over exaggerates my own criticisms to where I feel like I’m choking on opinions I want to agree with, and stand by, which is absolutely abysmal, when again, I’ve been saying a lot of these arguments for years now myself…..

I think the funniest part about the Spring Mushroom is that in the Iwata Asks for this game, the developers even made fun of how bad this power-up was.
all i can say is that this is a valid opinion but at the time of 2007 it was a REALLY BIG change in gaming at the time so it might not stand up to expectaions in 2024 but it is one of the 3d mario games and theres not alot of thoese (there are 7 3d games and there are 15 or more 2d mario games) but it can be boring and or recyced
As someone who has this game as my favorite, I'm sad Ur Mr Gay (I'm not sorry) didn't live up as much to you as it did me. I'm not adjacent to the feedback nor flaws, since... I'm someone who has The Bee Movie Game on Xbox as a childhood classic for me (yes, really). Might be more tolerant of those flaws myself, maybe. Appreciate the noted constructive criticism, though a few things to note: -Toy Time Galaxy might be one of the few notions of gravity moving done the best, given the limiting sections handled with limited ground of effect (the green) meaning it has limitations to work around. -I get the gripes with the limited power-ups, aside from Boing and Bee Movie, an aiming reticle and little use. I think the Ice Flower was neat to put elements around, it at least had elements of working on the jumping fountains for elevartion, but the Fire Flower feels so misused. Sadge, have to agree there. -Yeah, top tier soundtrack, nothing else to note. -Something I noticed was you not noting on Rosalina... aside from Ratatouie. Hell, most of the feeling of the narrative- as in, the softer tone, Rosalina and her story- were kinda glanced over. Not saying it's wrong to skip over it, but I feel it was going for a comfier, more atmospheric drive than an action-based front. I'd say Mario 64 has more in its limited environment, but Galaxy was focusing on the atmosphere of the environment regarding its colors and tone. It works for me, but understandable not for thee. I sentence you to Wario World remake.
Mario Galaxy is my most favorite 3D Mario game and man, you're right, i might be blinded by nostalgia but your point about not being able to aim properly with the fire flower is very true, i've spent alot of time in that level
The start of Nintendo's more linear approach with the 3D games. I'm playing through it for the first time myself now. I'm getting all the stars (within reason, I'm not waiting for prankster comets or anything) as I go, so it's a relief to see that I might avoid the problem you came up against where you had to get 26 more stars at the end. This game did get a semi-port (it's partially emulated) to the Switch. It's meant to be the same as the Wii version exceptusing the pointer is more difficult. Still, it's nice that it's available on a handheld. So far you're definitely not a fan of the 3D entries. Maybe 3D Land/World might change that with theire more 2D-style gameplay, but also maybe not. Not that there's anything wrong with that of course. I saw something a few years back before the Switch launched that showed how the 2D entries usually sell far better than the 3D ones. So they're definitely the more popular ones. At that time Super Mario 64 was still the best selling 3D game, though that's probably changed now with Odyssey.

It's beyond refreshing to see reviews that don't hand out perfect scores and done by someone who seems to be younger and not playing each game through "Mario is the best thing ever made(!!!!!!)" lenses. Love most of the games, but gotta be real: The series is held to Christ-like status by a certain (and very loud) subsect of older gamers, and such types tend not to branch out often. @@WarioEnthusiast I dig the ideas. I had that SpongeBob game on PS2 way back when. The fanbase absolutely hated 3D World and what they felt it represented back when it was shown at E3. Over time, they'd eventually pick it up, but you could always tell it was more from a sense of obligation; it didn't really "GRAB" their attention like Galaxy or 64. Even now, it's sort of seen as "the other one" when compared to the rest. I thought it was really good tbh :P

Also, you forgot one of Super Mario Galaxy's biggest selling points: the stars under the letters on the logo spell U R MR GAY and that's neat.
Shocked that you didn’t mention how long it takes to start each star. The needing to replay levels wouldn’t be as bad if you could skip the intro cutscene. Definitely some good points in there but respectfully I must say “nuh uh”
For me I'm the exact opposite of everything you just said. 2007 was when Mario peaked, so by your logic it was only up from here. I would rather have Power Ups be level gimmicks instead of an additional hit, that's why I loved Astro Bot, and that was made by Sony.

@@WarioEnthusiast Did you like the difficulty and level design more? I kind of have a similar experience to you, I skipped SMG1 and playedSMG2 as a kid and loved it a lot. SMG just isn't hitting the same scratch. It just feels kind of easy and simple. Its a solid game for sure, but I don't love it.
Yeah, this game is pretty boring when you get past the pretty visuals and music. The game is mind numbingly easy and consists of walking around and shaking the controller at things. But it's on planets, so people are tricked into thinking it's more involved. It's pure stop and go with little flow. Anytime I use the powerups, any flow I might've had is just gone. Buoy Base Galaxy even forces powerups on you by making you unable to walljump off certain walls to skip stuff. But what ultimately kills replayability for me are the unskippable cutscenes. There are so many of them. The WR is nearly three hours long because of it.

Buoy Base is actually an incredibly easy galaxy to perform skips on so I'm surprised that's the one you jumped to. Usually, the bigger planets like Buoy Base, Honeyhive, and the ice and fire planets in Freezeflame are relatively easy to do that with. Most of the other galaxies are segmented so there aren't really any options to skip (and thus the devs wouldn't need to artificially block you from doing so).
you know, it's weird. I really love this game, still enjoy a lot of the things you dislike about it, but I can still somewhat can relate to a LOT of this (8:46 especially).

TBH, i’ve always enjoyed mario galaxy 2 so much more. This game can be somewhat boring at times, but it’s still great.
