- Learn how to make a bench to store your shoes in.
This is one of my first furniture projects, but I think it turned out pretty well and I have a couple more planned. I definitely learned a lot while building it.
As always, make sure to follow all safety precautions and become familiar with safe operations before using any tool.
My family is in the practice of taking off our shoes in the house. This helps keep the floors clean, but we ended up with an unsightly pile of shoes right by the front door.
This was basically the first thing people saw when they walked through the door, or a close-up of the floor if they tripped over the shoes.
We decided to clean up the clutter by building a bench that could hold all of the shoes. It's a place where you can sit down and take your shoes off, then slide them in a cubby.
This corner of the house definitely looks a lot nicer now.
Excellent work, love the soundtrack!!!
Great video...but yes the music was brutal...lol. Your shoe storage bench is awesome.
This is amazing and exactly what I needed. Thank you !
I enjoyed the video. I'm here from Reddit. But that music almost drove me away a few times. Haha.
Hey, thanks for watching! I plan to make more videos, so I'm grateful for the feedback. I'll probably use some softer, relaxing music next time. Thank you again!
Came here for this comment 😂
Simple and straightforward....just what I was looking for!
Thank You , I made it but used Pocket Hole Jig had no problems but used your plans, Great Video.
Wonderful to have on hand for little ones.
Thank you for visually adding the dimension!
You're welcome!
Thank you. This was very helpful. I want to make one.
Go for it. You can do it!
Nice work
cant wait for the workbench and Japanese tool box builds
This was awesome, thank you
Great simple design, nice work!
Thanks! I'm glad you like it.
Perfact shoe rack as i needed 👍🏻
simple and less tools (my kind of diy), thanks
Está muuuuy bueno
impresive,nice
Oldie but goodie.
Best one 👍
This is totally awesome! I’m going to make one. Wish me luck
Thank you! I'm glad you like it. Good luck with yours! I'd love to see it when you finish.
Thanks was a big help.
i'm doing this for my building technology practical! it's awesome i love it.
Thanks! I'm glad you found the video useful.
Looks good but personally i would of counter sunk the screws to avoid splitting the timber. Maybe if you used a cordless drill you would have more stopping time....! looks good though
So nice. Just watching tho. I don't have powertools
This is great!
Should've just made interlocking shelves and uprights and then you'll only need screws at the tops and bottoms of the uprights and the sides of the shelf. You made so much more work for yourself with the individual uprights, and those corner pieces 9where one split)...
So simple, I could do it, thnx
Great! Glad I could help.
Thank you so much for sharing this video! I feel a bit more confident in my ability to build this bench. What fabric was used for the seat cushion?
Thanks for the nice comment! I'm glad you liked the video. The fabric is a faux leather I got on Amazon.
I made it but with larger measurements. I stained the wood before putting everything together, after that the finish.
Great!
Very good!
Thanks. I'm glad you liked it.
Good work
Thank you!
What are your wood sizes?
pretty pimp set up!
Nice but I prefer a front door on it. It gets dusty inside
Just finished making the bench and am about to start making the seat. Do you think that I could attach the cushion to the shoe rack through screws coming up from the bottom?
Yes, that is definitely possible.
Should be nicer covered at the front!
The two side pieces are not showing in your cut list. What size are those?
Uh oh! You're right. They are 14.75 inches tall. Use the same 3/4" x 12" pine.
What's the total length of the pine you used?
[EDIT]
Looks like 12.65 - probably 13ft is good
Total is about 18 feet. I bought three 8-foot boards.
How thick is the foam? And I have some black leather kicking around would that work or would it be too thick for staples (might not hold) oh and I was thinkin doin mine 6 ft think that'll work?
The foam I used was 4 inches thick. You could use leather if you use good staples, and a 6 foot bench would work just fine.
Do you think it would be easier to paint before or after, like you did?
If your cuts are very precise, you can paint before assembly. However, if you want to sand everything down to make all of the edges flush, you have to leave the painting/staining until after.
this is nice..
Well thank you.

I heard many times that screw doesn’t hold in end grain
While a screw into end grain is not the strongest joint, it is very easy and plenty strong enough for this project, as long as you pay attention to the diagrams that I show. Normal forces on the bench do not pull on the screws.
What kind of screws are you using at the same time?
Most of the wood is 3/4 inch pine. All the dimensions are in the video. The screws are 1 1/2 inch.
Do you remember about how much the materials were?
If you don't have any of it already (stain, screws, plywood, etc.), it's probably going to be around $100, depending on lumber prices in your area.
The music volume is WAY too loud and very obnoxious. You obviously know how to add and modify music to the video, so please consider changing it!
Great video. What are the dimensions of the foam and fabric ?
The foam has the same dimensions as the top of the bench, so 54 1/2" by 12". It was 3" thick. I bought 2 yards of fabric, but had some left over.
How much you spend?
A little under $130. I bought more than I needed though, so that I could have screws, stain, polyurethane, etc. left over for other projects.
Can u tell me the tools u used, thnx
Circular saw, drill, and stapler
Reese Auxiliaries I was talking about the brand as well, those look pretty easy for me to use....thank you so much
Oh okay. The circular saw in the video is SKIL (smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BD81C36/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1), and the drill is a DEWALT (smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B0011XSEW6/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1).
What is wrong with the music
minom. es Felipe isaludos desde mexico gracias porla idea tequedo bonito ocomo desimos aca tequedo chido ifelis año
Felipe gutierrez eat caca
How many sheets of plywood you used and the length of the plywood
Only the back is plywood, so it's part of one sheet. Wait to cut it until you get the rest put together, but it should be about 54 1/2" x 16 1/4". The rest is made from 3/4" x 12" pine. See the 30 second mark for the pieces you'll need.
Reese Auxiliaries ok.. thank you
What size did the back piece end up being?
music :( ... video :)
That music - NOOOO!!! I stopped watching because I could not bear the music anymore.
Great video, horrible music 👍🏻
Music is dreadful
