    This video discusses One Hundred Years of Solitude by Gabriel Garcia Marquez. The story tells the story of the Buendiá family. The patriarch of the family Jose Arcadio Buendia and Ursula Buendia are the founders of the town of Macondo. Macondo is a fictional village in Colombia. Each character in the novel experiences solitude and their names are repetitive. The novel ends isolated and in solitude as it started. The major conflict in the novel is the struggle between the old and new ways of life ie. tradition and modernity. The novel also has instances of colonization in Macondo. Civil war occurs thereby many die, after the end of the civil war Macondo acquires a banana plantation. Continuous rain hits Macondo and depopulated the town. Finally, the hurricane evacuates the town.
    The novel is recognized and cited in World Literature. The novel is first written in Spanish and then translated into English. Marquez has used magical realism in this novel. The novel is considered the Magnum Opus of Marquez.
