As researcher in the field of Latin American Studies , I would say that i m so thankful for what Gabriel Garcia Marquez has offered to the different generations all over the world , he is and he will always be a great school for us . Rest in Peace Mr Marquez
One Hundred Years of Solitude and The Autoumn of the Patriarch. That's literature, my friend, that's literature. Lyric and Poetry taken to the highest level.
García Márquez had the intention to write OHYOS since he was a teenager. He began writing it then, it was going to be called "La Casa" (the house). But he simply lacked the experience to tackle his project. The first paragraph comes from those years. What he found while driving in Mexico was the tone for the narrator.
The two GGM moments I remember are 1. Some general is barking instructions down the phone and the man at the other end says "It's raining in Macondo" 2. Simon Bolivar knowing his time is up gazing at a star
I loved his short stories the most. Did not like 'Love in the Time of Cholera'. A master of prose, for sure, but not my favourite writer... What is interesting about this - apart from Garcia Marquez life and works - is how Castro is referred to as 'a colossal character', while Pinochet and others 'tyrants and oppressors''... Explanations? Anyone?
