One of the greatest songs in the history of music, for me. Nothing else sounds like this. Like a neon-lit, smoky night in the city.
Magical Mid 80's Alternative Synth sound here...takes me instantly back to my care free high school days and cruising around to nowhere just soaking up the mood of this music. Priceless stuff guys!
It's a great song, but there's no synth...!
A truly PERFECT song. Every second of it. In my top 5 of all time!
This song never gets old. I was 14 when it came out and I still listen to it. Something ethereal about the song as well as the video.
I absolutely agree with 'ethereal'. One of my top 3 favorite songs of all time.
4shore I heard many yrs ago.Still sounds new..
First heard this song on wxrt on the Chicago radio station
WXRT !!
Back in 2002 or 2003 I used to visit my dad in nearby Indiana with my 1 or 2 year old daughter - I can't quite recall - and my gf who was her mother. My gf and my daughter would sit in the back and my car had speakers in the back. This song came on and I turned up the vol. My little daughter started stirring her in car seat. She liked it! My gf, her mom, starting laughing and saying to her "you like this song don't you?". My daughter was too little to talk but I'm sure she did. This tune will always take me back to then, that point in time.
That's a beautiful memory.
Part of you wishes kids would never get any older/ bigger than how they were then, when you're their world and you're watching their personalities develop, seeing parts of each other in them and their selves becoming more apparent.
Hope all is well for you in life, friend 🖖
I love all of you who like this song!!!
I just flew home from Mexico and this came on my headphones just as the plane took off, it was fantastic.
1985....riding the 62 bus downtown to sneak an el train up to lincoln avenue or belmont on cold, dreary chicago days of my teens. this was my soundtrack.
@@sartoris9439 you too? haha it's funny how even though these guys aren't from chicago, so many chicagoans hold this song dear because of it somehow becoming a staple on WXRT, and hardly anywhere else.
@@sartoris9439 excellent story. thank you!
I might have been sitting next to you.
@@Engelbird RIP Lin Brehmer
@@davidmajer3652 indeed.
I played the hell out of this record in my days of being a college radio DJ. Fantastic track.
Apocalyptic Be Bop
Same! In Holyoke, Mass..
same! At Purdue in Indiana.
Still rocking this song on WXRT.
RIP Lin Brehmer
Hard to believe, he's gone. It's great to be alive!
@@MrDenniske1Take nothing for granted....
I was about 7 or 8 y/o when this came out. But I'm a huge fan of this song.
93.1 WXRT I can thank for playing this song
This is my favorite song of all time. Some of the bar scenes perfectly match the music.
Man I do like this song. Really takes me back.
Sums up the u.s.a. and all hopefull aspiring countries 😊😊😊😊 oh yes we all want to have a society as this depicts ...great video and song ...well done ....
This song has held up surprisingly well and is a huge part of my car-playlist! Probably even love it more now than when it came out.. !
Mood Swing was a genius album.
I've always loved this song, still have my original LP, but also got the CD years ago, when it was released..
Marc Campbell's coming home again....
Quite possibly the best song ever
I agree

"having a wonderful time,,, wish you were here"
Absolutely love this track ...whole album is great ...still play it regularly on vinyl in my salon ere in NZ
NZer luv
Phenomenal song from an excellent album.
Lucky Strike, must be My Lucky Night. XRT still rocks!
Brother of another mother, I got a Master's Degree in music from WXRT. The late 70's to late 90's were the Renaissance. I heard the Talking Heads and John Prine in the same slot. When eclectic was the norm, and cool wasn't deadly..Tj STRUSKA
XRT played this song today.
WXRT Chicago's Finest Rock! Happy birthday Saturday Morning Flashback!
XRT sucks THE BIG ONE!!! Used to be good. back in the 80s and into the 90s. but no more. huge load of commercial 💩
@@joseschmoe2800 you do have a valid point--however, aside from 93.1, 95.5, 101.1, Chicago radio is a f4cking joke
@@chriswirth9484 well all those radio stations suck. The only good radio station in town is WLUW, a college radio station. Loyola U to be precise.
You’re not kidding. I just returned to town after not living in Chicago since the 90s: their playlist, aside from a few, new safe songs, hasn’t changed a bit. It’s like they’re stuck in time.
@@nitedreamer23 Out of Chicago for 8 years, everything has changed, and it always will. I just sold off all my CDs,no reason to keep them.
thanks WXRT
It is amazing all the WXRT comments
Had this on vinyl a very long time ago, so refreshing to hear on teh inter tubes.
OMG! The Nails "Home of the Brave." I just found this song again! I couldn't recall anything about it except the phrase "apocalyptic bebop!" I Googled that & voila! I'm happy again. I love this crazy existential song. I have no idea what the lyrics mean, but I love it! It's like Edward Hopper's "Nighthawks" come to life. Shout out to all the Chicagoans out there who remember WXRT!
Remember it!! I still listen to XRT every day online and on Audacy app!! I've listened for over 50 years. (Showing my age lol) They still play this song to this day and it's just great!
I was shocked to hear it on XRT a few months ago. It gave me hope for an otherwise abysmal station.
@@nitedreamer23 The new music director sucks! Too many "top 40 from the 70s".
@@keithlibner9259 it's godawful. And, yet, they think they're cool because they play Deathcab. They're so lame.
Having a wonderful time..........wish you were here....
Never knew there was video for this song! The Nails have been a favorite band since I first heard them in the mid 80"s. They had so much potential to be bigger.....oh well, they did provide some amazing music with obscure overtones. Instrumental composition that's rare in any music today.
I love the nails! great tune
Haven't heard this song since mid 80's
Wow, I'd totally forgotten about this song and hadn't heard it since the mid-80s. Amazing to listen and have the euphoric feeling of that time in college come flooding back.
First heard this on WXRT in Chicago when this song came out . Listened to XRT from 1973, until I left in 1993 . Moved to Phoenix 30 years ago and finally heard it again on a local automated radio station here, KCDX .
brings back memories, hey man you got a cigarette?
Thanks for fixing the audio... Great tune..
Yes i looked for it is good
Brings back great memories of WFNX back in the day...
Every song on this album is great.
But “Home of the Brave“ it my favorite.
All time g8 Song & awesome album, g8 memories
Great tune!
Amazing song!
You actually have/had a betamax machine?? That's really incredible. Ive worked in post production in LA my whole career and never even seen one of those tape machines, and I've worked with pretty much all of 'em...Damn! Thanks for the effort.
Typical of music videos from the 80s, this made no sense at all. Just a patchwork of surreal stream-of-consciousness. And I love it. What a song. It was a lot more work to find - and appreciate - good music in the 80s.

Dang! I still have a nails tee shirt and I wear it..
GO AHEAD Y'ALL... LET IT ALL HANG OUT!!!!!
Yep Chicago land 93.1 just the other day.
I remember seeing them live at The Paradise in Boston back when this was getting airplay on 'FNX

I wonder where this bar is?
True about Hong Kong
Do you think any young people in 2017 would believe this song was ever played over the airwaves?
Darren c I'm 18 and I love this song, I believe it with all of the shit coming out today lol
My 19 yr old daughter does. That's cuz I told her I used to play this for her when she was like 2 years old. See my other free standing post on this.
Wot year did this come out?

"#MarcCampbell #TheNails - Home of the Brave - In all of my life, in the music business and before, I have never heard anything so unselfconsciously devoid of good taste or sensibility. I started out writing a hit-piece, but after hearing this song, i can finally understand why it is that he needed to steal songs, videos, and post ideas, whether for this band or for his/my posts on Dangerous Minds. You can have anything you want, pal. I didn't realize. "I got divorced three years ago after 18 years of marriage and it was devastating," Marc said. "Somebody said, Marc, have you checked out this thing called Facebook? So I checked out this thing called Facebook..." Marc, unblock me and let me help you be whole again. I'll even crush OJ Simpson DVDs for you in a parking lot.
WOT r u babbling about???
