How could they do this in a 2h movie?! I agree that this movie shouldn't have seen the light of day, but when people start pointing out things like Shi'ar or Lilandra, just proves to me how little they know about the concept of time management in a movie and all its technical issues. With that being said, once they realized Fox was going to be purchased by Disney would have been wiser to just drop it, that would have been the responsible attitude instead of forcing something that was already set up to failure from the beginning because of the little time they had to build up a huge storyline such as Dark Phoenix Saga.

Do you really know that any of those movies had continuity, right?! They had the opportunity to left things unclear to the next one, here not so much. Expecting to see the Dark Phoenix Saga all written in a short movie like this is almost irrational to me. Not even Kevin Feige would have done it right because it is impossible, period. I'm not defending Fox nor Simon K., i'm just saying we need to be aware of what actually means to tell such a huge story like this in a regular 2h movie. To me this was pretty clear from the beginning that there was nothing they could do to make it work, instead they should have dropped it and let MCU adapt it properly.
I feel very much the same way. X-men Days of Future Past was a nice coda to the entire Fox era X-men franchise. The X-men franchise should have gone to Marvel by that time, so they could reboot it.

Logan had some really good parts, but also some I felt were a bit lame. Cloned Wolvie wasn't real interesting, but I understand why they took that route. Why pay another actor when you just have Hugh play the same role in different ways :)

This was such a waste of a movie. You were spot-on regarding this being the *X-Men: The Dark Patriarchy* movie. The "X-Women" line was even stupider coming from Mystique, who was completely useless on the mission! Quicksilver & Nightcrawler did all the heavy lifting, so her, "...the women are always saving the men...", made even less sense. Crazy. It feels as if they rushed this movie into production just to get one out before Disney takes over. The depiction of Storm was..interesting. At some points she has trouble fighting the dude with dreds (a male Medusa?) and then the next moment she's floating in the air, casting lightning bolts (as she should!), taking out hordes of aliens. I followed comics for years, as a kid and later as a collector, from my childhood in the 1970s up until the early 2000s. Then, comic creators all got "woke", ruined comics, and I left the medium. There have been some bright spots in the movies, such as *The Dark Knight* and most of the MCU (with the exception of the Carol Danvers junk and *Endgame*). But, the SJW, Feminism, Wokeness have ruined these franchises (along with Star Trek & Star Wars). The Dark Phoenix movie (which I notice they don't even refer to it as *X-Men,* which I suppose has to do with the "Men" part...sigh) completely ignores the bulk of the source material. Since they decided to bring in shape-shifting aliens, which was a mistake, they could have at least used something from X-Men lore, such as The Brood, The Shiar, something. Anything would have been better. Anyway, I'm glad I watched via...an alternative source...instead of spending money on this crap!
Let's not forget that Professor X joining the X-men and going out into the field was what got him put in a wheel chair in the first place. Anyone remember that? I sure as hell do.

Xavier was a complete badass in this movie. He leads on the battlefield and shows the best portrayal yet of the X-Men working together under his leadership. Too bad all the sheep on here believe this guy. He ruined a great movie experience for them.

I watched. It was not all that bad but it was not exactly good. The story is too flat and the development of characters just awful. Basically we have generic villains and a girl wanting to destroy the entire world because they lied to her. I mean, Seriously? You can not develop real empathy for the characters. Neither understand their real motives.

The ending to GOT was still infinity worse I think than even Dark Phoenix. GoT ending manages to squander almost everyone of its built up plot lines. While the Fox X-men franchise only botched and butchered a few of them!

It goes to show the level of restriction on the IP that Disney puts on the Marvel properties vs. what fox wanted to do. Because any creative changes to characterization and Source material have to be okayed by Disney. A fox's IP was to the Cinematic production and distribution to the properties connected to the series. Everything else still has to be okayed by the source IP holder. So Disney Marvel does have a larger chunk of responsibility for the shittiness of it then people like to think. It's the reason why the classic superhero movies where he normally point-for-point Live Action versions of the comics with very little changed.

Although i don't think Sophie's acting range is that good. Emilia started off as a relatively weak actress but has improved immensely with time, her acting was top notch in final seasons of GOT (which is a lot more than i can say about the season itself). Sophie has a long way to go, she seem's to be stuck in Sansa mode atm - type casting is going to be a real problem for her.....she doesn't help herself with comments like: "I'm always drawn to strong, independent women and Sansa and Jean are both that," Turner explained. "They eventually use all of these terrible things that happened to them and they become incredibly strong women.".

It was decent from my perspective. I stumbled in 40 minutes into the movie and was ready to stumble back out when Mystique was giving Jean the you're a woman I'm a woman talk but the bitch got impaled and from there it was decent.

Just the idea of doing the Phoenix Saga in A SINGLE FILM is preposterous. We need Marvel Studios to spend some years giving us the REAL X-Men, so we can care about the characters, then spend two, MAYBE three films telling the story. It will be DEVASTATING if done right.

For all of us who grew up with Marvel comics in the 60's and 70's, the Dark Pheonix Saga is one of the greatest X-Men and Marvel stories of all time; one we've been waiting to finally see on the big screen, and then to have them fuck it up on film, twice no less, and have a simplified 90's cartoon version do a way better and more accurate version, is seriously depressing and sad...they just can't seem to handle the truly great Marvel stories, in fact they avoid the best parts altogether...they ruined Galactus in The Fantastic Four, they ruined The Dark Phoenix in the X-Men (twice!), they left Warlock out of The Infinity War/Endgame altogether and he's barely a sideline in the Guardians of the Galaxy...I mean there's finally the technology to realize these things on the big screen and they're either ignored, sidelined or removed altogether...P.S. Famke Janssen who played Jean Grey in the first X-Men movies had way more maturity and charisma than Sophie Turner and would have killed it as Phoenix/Dark Phoenix if the story had been written true to the original story. P.S.S. Legion is by far on of the best Marvel adaptations for the screen, and while not entirely accurate, easily one of the most creative by a long shot...

No one could have written Game of Thrones Season 8 out of the structural problem they created in season 6. That was the beginning of the collapse and they wrote into the point of no return when they Decided to do an overkill in the season Finally of Season 6. Killing Margery was the biggest Mistake they made. For season 7 and 8 to work, they needed someone the people love in Kingslanding not Cersei. Dany telling Jon the people love him wasn't connecting because it seem forced. With Margery it has already been established the people love Margery. Arya had to be planted in Kingslanding to run around so that we will feel concern for Arya whom viewers love but if they built on the relationship between Margery and the people in season 7, they wouldn't need Arya running around but probably Firing Arrows to knock Dany off the back of Drogon. By the was why was Arya practicing Archery when it wasn't going to be used? You may ask what of Cersei, She lost the Game of thrones when Tommen Commited suicide, Romeo and Juliet but except Juliet is Pregnant and becomes Queen. What they should have done is have one of the Orphans whom Margery care for, inform her of the plot to blow up the cept. She arranges to free her brother but those who tried to free him fails. She decides to let Cersei's plan procceed because she also hates the Sparrows. Tommen commits suicide. As Cersei mourns her dead last Son, news reaches her that Margery wasn't in the building when it exploded. In rage Cersei orders them to find Margery. As she is crying over Tommen's corps Arya comes in and they have a great Dialogue before she either kills her or let her be. The Dialogue between Arya and Cersei is very important to the story but they messed it up. If Arya spares Cersei, she proclaims herself queen but on her coronation Gendry and his brotherhood siezes the red Keep but Cersei escapes Kingslanding with the help of the Mountain. But if Arya kills Cersei there will be power vacum and Qyborn proclaims someone or himself King but then Gendry siezes the red keep and install Margery as Queen. Arya meets Nymeria and as she identifies Nymeria they hug the camera zooms out revealing the massive size of the pack. Dany is sailing to Westeros and the Freys are gathered to attack the North fearing Jon will come for them. Arya poisons them and then kills Walder Frey. Little Finger Won the War and in command of the Largest force so he decides who should be Lady or Queen of the North. He recommends Sansa to the Northern Lords and they Approved and proclaim Sansa Queen not Jon. Jon is still Lord Commander of the Night's watch. He will not abbandon the watch at a time when death in knocking at the door. If Season 6 had ended this way, Season 7 would have had richer scenes that doesn't seem forced. I will begin season 7 with a fallout between Tyrion and Dany over the true meaning of Breaking the wheel. Dany's mission has always been Equality aka Kill the Masters and in Westeros the Masters are the Families that lord over the people. So her goal is to kill all the Lords of Westeros and let the common people govern themselves. She will present the lord the opportunity to willingly distribut all asset equally or die.Tyrion disagrees and they fall out and she puts him under arrest. She then begins the conquest of Westeros from Castle to Castle burning shit up. In my version, the White Walkers were activated by the three eyed Raven in response to the threat of Daenarys and the Spiral symbol they make was to inform the Northmen who their battle is against but the northmen don't understand and confronted the Walkers and they had to fight back. Bran then discovers the truth and orders them to stop fighting the white walkers. So the Northmen, White Walkers, Exiled southern lords and the Wolves will face Dany for a final battle at Harrenhall, Arya suggested Harrenhall as the best location to fight Dany's massive army but they need to find a way to neutralize the Dragon. Bran can Warg one so they need to take out two. The White Wallkers takes out all Three Dragons and Dany falls to the ground. SHe survives. As the morning came by the White Walkers were gone leaving the Allied Forces to finish the fight. The conflict is resolved in a treaty and there will be Southern and Northern Kingdom with Dany as Queen in the south and Jon as King in the North. Arya tries to Assassinate Dany but discovers she is true to the peace agreement so she left. That is how Game of Thrones Ended in my head. The other characters and reunions will be fitted in the story.

But then when you only have 2 hours to tell the most complicated story in the Franchize with new cast, you need other schemes to turn out people to see your movie. First is location. You make act two at an Asian Country. Secondly you cast an African American for a secondry role but in the trailer you make him or her seem like a major act. Thirdly you overhype the movie. That is how you sell a bad movie. It doesn't mean the movie becomes good, it means more people turn out for First Week and get disappointed but you get the money.
I had a feeling it the phoenix saga would turn this way from how cheaply it got foreshadowed in Apocalypse. From your review, it sounds like Apocalypse's ending got partially retcon'd.
It's not as bad as what he's saying. I actually liked it and I came out pretty satisfied for what it is. Not super great, but not the worst. If you're a fan of xmen I'm not a robot who just listen to everybody's reviews and has their own opinion about things splease see it for yourself

I'd rather read the comic from the late 1970s and early 1980s. I wasn't a fan of the first 2000 X-Men movie which looked like a TV movie to me, didn't care to see what wsa going afterwards. The animated series from the 1990s was better and even then I could see that series was done on the cheap.
Such a shame. Because I thought that "Days of Future Past" was pretty good, and was a decent adaptation of that X-men story arc. They could have ended the entire Fox era X-men franchise there, and I would have been satisfied.

How could they do this in a 2h movie?! I agree that this movie shouldn't have seen the light of day, but when people start pointing out things like Shi'ar or Lilandra, just proves to me how little they know about the concept of time management in a movie and all its technical issues.
With that being said, once they realized Fox was going to be purchased by Disney would have been wiser to just drop it, that would have been the responsible attitude instead of forcing something that was already set up to failure from the beginning because of the little time they had to build up a huge storyline such as Dark Phoenix Saga.

Do you really know that any of those movies had continuity, right?! They had the opportunity to left things unclear to the next one, here not so much. Expecting to see the Dark Phoenix Saga all written in a short movie like this is almost irrational to me. Not even Kevin Feige would have done it right because it is impossible, period.
I'm not defending Fox nor Simon K., i'm just saying we need to be aware of what actually means to tell such a huge story like this in a regular 2h movie. To me this was pretty clear from the beginning that there was nothing they could do to make it work, instead they should have dropped it and let MCU adapt it properly.
For me, the main X-Men Cinematic storyline ended at DOFP. Logan and Deadpool are spinoffs that are excellent imo
I feel very much the same way. X-men Days of Future Past was a nice coda to the entire Fox era X-men franchise. The X-men franchise should have gone to Marvel by that time, so they could reboot it.

Logan had some really good parts, but also some I felt were a bit lame. Cloned Wolvie wasn't real interesting, but I understand why they took that route. Why pay another actor when you just have Hugh play the same role in different ways :)

This was such a waste of a movie. You were spot-on regarding this being the *X-Men: The Dark Patriarchy* movie. The "X-Women" line was even stupider coming from Mystique, who was completely useless on the mission! Quicksilver & Nightcrawler did all the heavy lifting, so her, "...the women are always saving the men...", made even less sense. Crazy. It feels as if they rushed this movie into production just to get one out before Disney takes over. The depiction of Storm was..interesting. At some points she has trouble fighting the dude with dreds (a male Medusa?) and then the next moment she's floating in the air, casting lightning bolts (as she should!), taking out hordes of aliens.
I followed comics for years, as a kid and later as a collector, from my childhood in the 1970s up until the early 2000s. Then, comic creators all got "woke", ruined comics, and I left the medium. There have been some bright spots in the movies, such as *The Dark Knight* and most of the MCU (with the exception of the Carol Danvers junk and *Endgame*). But, the SJW, Feminism, Wokeness have ruined these franchises (along with Star Trek & Star Wars). The Dark Phoenix movie (which I notice they don't even refer to it as *X-Men,* which I suppose has to do with the "Men" part...sigh) completely ignores the bulk of the source material. Since they decided to bring in shape-shifting aliens, which was a mistake, they could have at least used something from X-Men lore, such as The Brood, The Shiar, something. Anything would have been better.
Anyway, I'm glad I watched via...an alternative source...instead of spending money on this crap!

It goes to show the level of restriction on the IP that Disney puts on the Marvel properties vs. what fox wanted to do. Because any creative changes to characterization and Source material have to be okayed by Disney.
A fox's IP was to the Cinematic production and distribution to the properties connected to the series. Everything else still has to be okayed by the source IP holder. So Disney Marvel does have a larger chunk of responsibility for the shittiness of it then people like to think. It's the reason why the classic superhero movies where he normally point-for-point Live Action versions of the comics with very little changed.

Although i don't think Sophie's acting range is that good. Emilia started off as a relatively weak actress but has improved immensely with time, her acting was top notch in final seasons of GOT (which is a lot more than i can say about the season itself).
Sophie has a long way to go, she seem's to be stuck in Sansa mode atm - type casting is going to be a real problem for her.....she doesn't help herself with comments like:

Chris Claremont must be constantly /facepalming, since his original story keeps getting ruined whenever they try to make it into a movie.
For all of us who grew up with Marvel comics in the 60's and 70's, the Dark Pheonix Saga is one of the greatest X-Men and Marvel stories of all time; one we've been waiting to finally see on the big screen, and then to have them fuck it up on film, twice no less, and have a simplified 90's cartoon version do a way better and more accurate version, is seriously depressing and sad...they just can't seem to handle the truly great Marvel stories, in fact they avoid the best parts altogether...they ruined Galactus in The Fantastic Four, they ruined The Dark Phoenix in the X-Men (twice!), they left Warlock out of The Infinity War/Endgame altogether and he's barely a sideline in the Guardians of the Galaxy...I mean there's finally the technology to realize these things on the big screen and they're either ignored, sidelined or removed altogether...P.S. Famke Janssen who played Jean Grey in the first X-Men movies had way more maturity and charisma than Sophie Turner and would have killed it as Phoenix/Dark Phoenix if the story had been written true to the original story. P.S.S. Legion is by far on of the best Marvel adaptations for the screen, and while not entirely accurate, easily one of the most creative by a long shot...

There is an epidemic of bad writing these days. Look at Game of Thrones, and now this. I don’t know, declining gene pool?
No one could have written Game of Thrones Season 8 out of the structural problem they created in season 6. That was the beginning of the collapse and they wrote into the point of no return when they Decided to do an overkill in the season Finally of Season 6. Killing Margery was the biggest Mistake they made. For season 7 and 8 to work, they needed someone the people love in Kingslanding not Cersei. Dany telling Jon the people love him wasn't connecting because it seem forced. With Margery it has already been established the people love Margery.
Arya had to be planted in Kingslanding to run around so that we will feel concern for Arya whom viewers love but if they built on the relationship between Margery and the people in season 7, they wouldn't need Arya running around but probably Firing Arrows to knock Dany off the back of Drogon. By the was why was Arya practicing Archery when it wasn't going to be used?
You may ask what of Cersei, She lost the Game of thrones when Tommen Commited suicide, Romeo and Juliet but except Juliet is Pregnant and becomes Queen. What they should have done is have one of the Orphans whom Margery care for, inform her of the plot to blow up the cept. She arranges to free her brother but those who tried to free him fails. She decides to let Cersei's plan procceed because she also hates the Sparrows. Tommen commits suicide. As Cersei mourns her dead last Son, news reaches her that Margery wasn't in the building when it exploded. In rage Cersei orders them to find Margery. As she is crying over Tommen's corps Arya comes in and they have a great Dialogue before she either kills her or let her be. The Dialogue between Arya and Cersei is very important to the story but they messed it up.
If Arya spares Cersei, she proclaims herself queen but on her coronation Gendry and his brotherhood siezes the red Keep but Cersei escapes Kingslanding with the help of the Mountain. But if Arya kills Cersei there will be power vacum and Qyborn proclaims someone or himself King but then Gendry siezes the red keep and install Margery as Queen.
Arya meets Nymeria and as she identifies Nymeria they hug the camera zooms out revealing the massive size of the pack. Dany is sailing to Westeros and the Freys are gathered to attack the North fearing Jon will come for them. Arya poisons them and then kills Walder Frey. Little Finger Won the War and in command of the Largest force so he decides who should be Lady or Queen of the North. He recommends Sansa to the Northern Lords and they Approved and proclaim Sansa Queen not Jon. Jon is still Lord Commander of the Night's watch. If Season 6 had ended this way, Season 7 would have had richer scenes that doesn't seem forced. I will begin season 7 with a fallout between Tyrion and Dany over the true meaning of Breaking the wheel. Dany's mission has always been Equality aka Kill the Masters and in Westeros the Masters are the Families that lord over the people. So her goal is to kill all the Lords of Westeros and let the common people govern themselves. She will present the lord the opportunity to willingly distribut all asset equally or die.Tyrion disagrees and they fall out and she puts him under arrest. She then begins the conquest of Westeros from Castle to Castle burning shit up.
In my version, the White Walkers were activated by the three eyed Raven in response to the threat of Daenarys and the Spiral symbol they make was to inform the Northmen who their battle is against but the northmen don't understand and confronted the Walkers and they had to fight back. Bran then discovers the truth and orders them to stop fighting the white walkers.
So the Northmen, White Walkers, Exiled southern lords and the Wolves will face Dany for a final battle at Harrenhall, Arya suggested Harrenhall as the best location to fight Dany's massive army but they need to find a way to neutralize the Dragon. Bran can Warg one so they need to take out two. The White Wallkers takes out all Three Dragons and Dany falls to the ground. SHe survives. As the morning came by the White Walkers were gone leaving the Allied Forces to finish the fight.
The conflict is resolved in a treaty and there will be Southern and Northern Kingdom with Dany as Queen in the south and Jon as King in the North. Arya tries to Assassinate Dany but discovers she is true to the peace agreement so she left.
That is how Game of Thrones Ended in my head. The other characters and reunions will be fitted in the story.

But then when you only have 2 hours to tell the most complicated story in the Franchize with new cast, you need other schemes to turn out people to see your movie. First is location. You make act two at an Asian Country. Secondly you cast an African American for a secondry role but in the trailer you make him or her seem like a major act. Thirdly you overhype the movie. That is how you sell a bad movie. It doesn't mean the movie becomes good, it means more people turn out for First Week and get disappointed but you get the money.
I had a feeling it the phoenix saga would turn this way from how cheaply it got foreshadowed in Apocalypse. From your review, it sounds like Apocalypse's ending got partially retcon'd.

I'd rather read the comic from the late 1970s and early 1980s. I wasn't a fan of the first 2000 X-Men movie which looked like a TV movie to me, didn't care to see what wsa going afterwards.
The animated series from the 1990s was better and even then I could see that series was done on the cheap.

Such a shame. Because I thought that "Days of Future Past" was pretty good, and was a decent adaptation of that X-men story arc. They could have ended the entire Fox era X-men franchise there, and I would have been satisfied.
