    Flexibility in definitions ! According to Fischer projection, groups attached by horizontal line are above the plane and those groups connected by vertical line are below the plane. But imagine what happens by rotating by 180 degrees or by making parallel transitions. Now groups above the plane are located below the plane and vice versa. So groups on horizontal line now are actually below the plane in original structure. So practically you can consider horizontal line either above or below the plane with vertical line in the opposite plane to it.

    What you said about fischer projection is wrong. Horizontal line is toward the viewer.

    You told to select the group in bottom most position. But doesn't that voilate the pronciple that the main functional group should be placed on top?

  • @marcusroizen7424
    @marcusroizen7424 Рік тому

    I think if you count with the hydrogen or group that would let the most light into the rest of the molecule, facing forward, and then count in order of the groups with lowest to highest absorbance of higher energy (smaller wavelength) wavelengths in IR spectra clockwise or counterclockwise it works.

    For first example, we did rotation to get aldehyde group at top. Why now at 7:59 we do parallel transition

    • @kaushalyadav2938
      @kaushalyadav2938 9 місяців тому +1

      Highest oxicdsed group should be st the top. In first case it was aldehyfe and in this case it is COOH.

    In bahal and bahal book their is mentioned in fisher projection group on horizontal bonds come towards the viewer and on vertical away from the viewer it is opposite as u say. Pls check it .

    • @egpat
      @egpat  4 роки тому

      By the definition, groups attached by horizontal line are above the plane and those groups connected by vertical line are below the plane. So whatever given in the book is correct. But it is highly flexible as we rotate the structure we can get the reverse. Those groups above the plane become below the plane and those below are now above the plane. It can also be observed by making parallel transitions. So we can consider in any way.

    with all respect,there is a mistake in your presentation at 2:05.
    that is,at vertical line the compounds are actually away from observer & at horizontal line the compounds are towards the observer .
    than you.if i am wrong, excuse me

    • @egpat

    Sir horizontal lines are above the plana a/c to fisher proj, u did mistake at 2.19,in previous vid u said that ,the horizontal line indicates grp above plane , in this vid u said horizontal grp are below

    • @egpat
      @egpat  4 роки тому

      By definition, horizontal line above the plane and vertical line below the plane. But its highly flexible. If you rotate the structure it becomes reverse. horizontal becomes vertical and vice versa. So nothing different. It can also be even visualized by parallel transitions.
