    I recently visited Alafia River State Park, a place notorious for it's short punchy climbs. Lance Trappe and myself give our top tips for tackling the challenges!

    Andrew tying the climb at the 5 minute mark was actually the most informative and helpful. Not only was his gear incorrect and his seat up on the first attempt but he was sitting. Pretty much sitting on the second attempt until almost the end but... he stood up on the pedals the third time, really got the power down and made it. EXCELLENT! Both of you guys were standing up on the climbs but you didn't mention that as a point or tip. Perhaps it's just instinctive for you to stand that you didn't even think about it. Great video, thanks!

    So the "gear selection" tip is to choose the right gear.
    ...Got it!

    • @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss
      @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss  4 роки тому +2

      Sorry!, I think the key is to choose a gear that allows you to spin about 60 to 80 rpm which is a little lower than the normal 80 or 90 you'd spin on a typical climb.

      Ok, thanks. But I normally categorize my climbing cadence as either "Hack up a lung." or "Hack up my lunch." I usually settle on hacking up a lung, then kick it into hacking up my lunch just as I crest the summit.🤢

    I made an elliptical chainwheel and it tackles hills and even the muddy ones that you can't because it doesn't stay dead-centered. The spin-heads dissed it for their 'classic' (antique) cycles; Shimano BioPace dodged Mark Hattan's patent with a feeble rendition.

    Thanks for the tip on elbow positioning! So should elbows be bent down and back at like a 45 degree angle or about parallel to the ground? I often feel like I am "pulling" the bike on climbs. Does this have to do with body positioning? Core? thanks for your videos!

    • @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss
      @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss  4 роки тому

      When I'm descending I have elbows out like I'm hugging a barrel, when I'm climbing they're more tucked in to my sides with my forearms sorta parallel to the ground so I can pull towards the handlebars better when I need to.

    • @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss
      @JeffLenoskyTrailBoss  4 роки тому

      I have 2 bikes that I use for that. My signature bike which is a cromoly hardtail from Reeb names the ReDikyelous, It doesn't get any more nimble or faster accelerations than this. My other bike which I rode in this video is a 130mm travel bike called a Sqweeb.

    Personal tips:
    -try it at least 3 times. If you fail once and keep going with your ride, there will be no improvement.
    -COMMIT TO IT: this one is the most important. If you go pedaling casually, and you know that root/stone is going to stop you, it will stop you.
    BUT, if you visualize yourself going up the root, and pedal hard, you'll do it. Don't stop pedaling when at the obstacle because you won't clear it, instead, pedal harder.
