5:50 Since I dont care that you don't care I'll explain to the benefit of anyone else what those are, they are called Paravanes, they're a mine sweeping equipment, you basically throw them into the water attached to your ship by a steel cable and tow them around, they fan out while under the water, hopefully their cables will cut any moored mine's anchor cable, so the mine will float to the surface where you can shoot it and destroy it, or slam into the mine destroying it.
I'm gonna be real about the photo-etch, I quit model ships because of it, went into model trains, started bending wire for grab irons and ladders and now I photo-etch my own parts because there's like two commercial pantographs that don't look like ass who are prototypical, so yeah there's no escape, I'm convinced photo-etch is just a modelers curse.
    Love the commentary, subbed.

But now i just 3D print stuff cause GW prices are fucking crazy even on second hand shops now, $75 for a leman russ tank? its not even worth $30, fuck you GW....what was I saying? oh right fuck photo-etch, but really fuck GW

If I may offer a little advice on hand-painting, look at how wargaming painters do it. It's not about perfect manual control or magical colour insight, it's a three-step process for each component: basetone, highlight, wash/filter. You tend to do basetone and highlight in a kind of single-pass which results in that kinda blocky look. For camo on tiny planes etc it's easier to just cut a camo shape out of masking tape and then stipple thinned paint until it looks right, makeup sponges or random bits of foam are good for this.
If you're painting a silver gun barrel or prop shaft, *don't paint it silver.* I know right? Paint it either gloss black if you want shiny, dark grey for realistic, dark brown for rusted to shit. Then you either drybrush or stipple a tiny tiny amount of unthinned metallic, I personally use a q-tip for this with a miniscule amount of paint. This is literally easier than brushwork and will get you a good result for no effort. Then just wash with a mix of dark brown and black, your existing panelliners will work. The brown/black mix is a wargamer's secret trick because it works on almost anything except bright fleshtones.
    Seriously though subbed, awesome work

Upon watching your video, I really started thinking that I should probably narrate mine using more curse words... It's truly liberating... I enjoyed the narration... I also have a relationship with capilary reacrion, but the b*** insists on overflowing everywhere, so I asked for a divorce... Very good construction and yes.. even though I've used detailed photo etched like the Bismark or the Yamato kits Iagree that there's nothing like a good, old 'out of the box' build... Thank you! I’ve seen tons of your videos over the years. Your 1/350 Graf Spee specifically got me down the rabbit hole of battleship modeling, which motivated me to buy my first 1/700 ship kits, which were Fujimi’s Kongo and Nagato, following a long period of time in which I felt discouraged from approaching the hobby 😂
I’ve been working up the courage to try some full PE sets, but out of the box builds are indeed good fun

Just a little trivia. When built the Yamato did have a lot of empty deck space fore and aft, the reason? If you were standing out on the deck when those guns were fired they could strip the flesh of your arm from the air compression. Also what limited deck fittings she did have got blown over the side on a regular basis every time they had gunnery practice.

5:53 those are mine clearing devices. I forgot the name they're very negligible in naval history. Basically, you tow them from the side, and the hydrovanes on them pull them out to the end of line and keep them beside the ship. They had a few functions, but the only one I can remember for sure is they'd carry a line that would cut the anchor lines on mines, which could then be detonated a "safe" distance from the ship with rifles.

They'll cut just fine, especially when the kit has indents on the drilling location to guide them.
As a bonus, because they are not really drills but flat blades...they cut like milling machines.

Those Torpedo bomb looking do-hicky's are called Paravane's. There purpose is for mine sweeping. The Yammy should have a Paravane mount at the bottom of the bow. A cable is run and the paravanes will sweep out a good ways on each side of the ship. They have a cutting mechanism that will cut a mines anchor line allowing them to float to the surface where they can be detonated with small arms fire.

Those torpedo bomb lookin things are to help clear mines. They are used to float a chain along side/behind the boat/ship and the chain snags the chains of mines that the crew can then take care of
