Another interesting and useful video information. Always wondered about Mocke PFDs. I like that there are no sharp objects in front which could scratch up the surfski on reentry...
@@mikegordon7430 neither of us has tried the Vaikob -- we've heard good things about their PFDs, but since the Mocke PFDs met all our needs, we just kept paddling with those. :)
I have the Mocke PFD and it's been great. Fixed the chafing and ventilation issues I had with the NRS cVest Wish it had a more secure pocket closure. How would the shorts work in warm weather? I've done the MR340 race several times and end up with diaper rash from sitting in water for several days in running shorts.
Hey Brandyn, Rod here. We continue to be very pleased with the Mocke PFD. It looks kinda bulky at times, but doesn't feel bulky at all when wearing it, and has great "breathability". We've never lost anything out of pocket, maybe due to the design of the pocket, but I could see where someone might prefer a zipper closure. Personally, I prefer the velcro for easy access and stowage, but that's just me. As for the Mocke shorts, I paddle in them year round, and our summer temps run 90+ degrees F. As for the diaper rash, I'd guess that's almost just a hazard of doing a race that long, in just about any short...but I've personally never had any issues at all with the Mocke shorts (but I also haven't done the MR340!). Let us know what you decide, and how it goes!
@@ThePaddleChannel Thank you for getting back to me! I had a multitool in the PFD pocket and it dropped into the water when I leaned forward getting out of the boat on night 2 of the race. I started keeping my phone in there with in a waterproof case with a lanyard looped through the hydration tube guides on the shoulder. I'll probably do something similar with anything I keep in there that isn't snacks or gloves. Finished the 340 in a few different sea kayaks with Bumfortable and factory seats and it's the trapped moisture that causes the issue. My other option is to take a drill and cut some drain holes in the seats.
I love the shorts! They are a lightweight neoprene and I have worn them in the summer for about 3.5 hours at a time and I have had no problems with rash. They are absolutely made for paddlers. I recommend them.
I love my Mocke PFD. Very comfortable and extremely surfski functional. Something not mentioned much, good body-armor when playing around in gnarly surf zones. Da Mocke brahs done it right.
We know a number of people who reshape their OC1 seats, but we haven't felt the need to do that. As for surfski, a good pair of paddle shorts does make a difference, we have found.

Thanks for watching,Peter! You are correct, no hard buckles or zippers on the front to catch on or scratch up the surfski.
Thanks Peter. I really like the Mocke PFD. Super comfortable and no zippers or metal at all.
How does the PFD compare to the one by Vaikobi? Mahalo!

The Paddle Channel maybe a new review to put them to the test? Vaikobi seems to be on everyone’s backs here

Good point on the body armor! :D
Ah! I thought my ass crack chaffing was due to seat. Will try some proper shorts. Thank you
