Thank you so much I am going to build my child's language arts curriculum as well, he has speech delay and below grade level in Language Arts due to his delays. Thats the best part of homeschooling being able to use right material to help our children succeed. The language arts curriculum we used last year didn't really work for us I had to print out extra work I found online to help him.

Great video and resources. I will have a 3rd grader next school year. This is the fist year I am planning our own curriculum. This has been very helpful.

Thank you for the flip through of each of the resources.
For the spelling book, do you do one "lesson" a week? How would you break it down day by day?

I think it’s completely up to you the way you want to do it. With my kindergartner we are just working on the spelling until we master then move on to the next group of words. For my 3rd grader right now we are spending about 2weeks on the words before moving to the next. We might progress to a set of words a week but we like taking our time. The Lang. Arts curriculum we were previously using didn’t swap out the words weekly so we aren’t use to moving that quickly with words.
We use our Spelling Boxes for daily practice with our words.

Thank you so much for sharing. I am also making my own curriculum. So that is helpful. What about your writing component?

We are using handwriting without tears. I show more of what we actually do in the individual /grade level videos (kindergarten video is up now and 3rd grade video will be up today). This video is more of what resources I use to put together the curriculum.

I don't mean to sound dumb but you can do this?

In the United States you can but in other countries you can not.

@@yourtutorvaschni I'm in the US. I'm just not happy with language arts curriculum and was thinking of just pulling workbooks together to make my own.

@@ReiverGrad14Your question isn’t dumb at all! It depends on your state laws. I switch up often because my daughter has ADHD. I usually buy a workbook from Evan Moor or Spectrum. If my daughter is struggling on a topic, then I buy a book specifically for that from Spectrum. I use multiple resources and sometimes different grade levels. She’s on the 3rd grade level in Math Science, Reading and Social Studies but I buy 1st and 2nd grade levels for Spelling, Language Arts, and Writing. I want her to learn spelling rules and phonics so she can spell anything. Spelling from memory doesn’t work with my daughter. That’s why we are doing all about spelling curriculum. My take on it is why hold her back in subjects she loves. That’s the beauty of homeschooling! In public schools you are expected to pass not retain lessons. That’s not idea for a child who learns different and it sets a child up to struggle in the next grade. I like to set a firm foundation on every topic. Once you get to the next grade level it’s easy, because you’ve moved at the child’s pace. Harping on grade levels causes mental and physical stress for all parties involved. When I stopped that behavior, she learned quicker and wanted more knowledge in that subject!
