2:56 Spock smiles “Jim!” then suddenly gets dead serious and calmly says “I’m . . . pleased to see you Captain”. What cracks me up is McCoy’s smug smart aleck grin on his face implying “Yeah, we all saw it Spock, you can’t make us unsee it!” 😂
@@tpartain dude this is the same guy who though a Marshmallow was called a Marshmelon. Unless they had some melon flavoured one I don't know about in the future, safe to say the Half Vulcan doesn't know much about Earth.
@@tpartain I forwarded your observation about Mister Spock's error in faunal categorization to the planet Vulcan. They said they called Spock before a hearing where he faced charges of an illogical reference to pigs as cattle. Spock insisted he was so pleased that a proficient captain was not lost to the federation, that the error was excusable. "In a pig's eye," the Vulcan judge responded. Spock then said: "Your honor, I fail to see the logic of speaking of the ocular organ of a porcine animal.” And the charges were then dropped.
It proved that Spock's human side was happy his friend survived. Kirk was the brawn of the Enterprise, Spock was the brain and McCoy was the soul. All three of them were the Enterprise.
Ah yes, the good old fake your own death by Pom Far to get an emotional response out of a Vulcan who will literally go to prison of his own free will for the rest of his life for thinking he killed you trick, gets them every time.
Back in the early 90's there was an Improv group in Toronto that did a live version of Amok Time. The fighting weapons were hockey sticks with jerry cans on the end. They also had "cardboard Sulu" and cans of silly string as phasers.
Earlier in the story, Spock asked Kirk if he knew how Vulcans choose their mates, to which Kirk replied that he assumed it was done logically. "No, it is not," admits Spock. The philosophy of logic and stoicism is a relatively new thing in Vulcan history. So if a barbaric ritual like this has survived to the present day, it is because they still haven't been able to find any better solution to the problem of _pon farr_ . Of course they wouldn't speak of it to outworlders. They aren't proud of this, so they saw no logical reason to blab about it.
My one major complaint about the Star Trek motion pictures is that Spock was too serious all the time. I would have liked to have seen a little more of his human side from time to time.
but it was in the motion picture that he learned to accept his human side. you can clearly see he changed after that. he even considers the other crewmates his friends from then on.
Leonard Nimmoy, DeForest Kelly, and William Shatner built this franchise from humble clay. In 300 years, the original series of Star Trek will be spoken of with the same reverence that people have for the works of Shakespeare
I just saw the opener clip where McCoy said, "You've got to get him to Vulcan or he'll die!" Initially I thought he should have mated with T'Pring before coming to his senses. But since he likes blondes ("The Cloud Minders" and "The Paradise Syndrome"), I'm sure if he'd chosen or asked Christine Chapel, she would have been more than willing, wedding or no wedding.
God that look on his face when he yells "JIM!" just brightens everything.
😁🖖
And Kirk's corresponding big smile is fantastic. I also love Bones' dialog throughout, especially his "In a pig's eye!"
When Spock smiled, it brought down the house lol
He had the warmest smile.
The moment when spock is like:
*JIM!!!*
EPIC 😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
For once McCoy gets one on Spock
For a brief moment Spock was like a young boy in the 5th grade congratulating his team mate for hitting a home run with the bases loaded.
Excellent comment! 🙂🙂🙂
You so rarely see Spock discombobulated, but he sure was here. Lol!

Yeah this is one of my favorite scenes in the whole series 😂
1 of my favorite Spock scenes. Never gets old.
I like how after that brief show of emotion Spock quickly collects himself 🤣
“In a _pig’s eye?_ Doctor, I fail to see the logic of speaking of the ocular organ of a bovine animal.”
Bovine = cattle
Porcine = pigs
Equine = horses
Canine = dogs
Feline = cats
... and so on. 🙂

@@tpartain The point remains

Ovine = sheep and goats
That cut in the shirt omg
Reminds me of those sweaters for men where their boobs can be seen lol
pure emotion he'll never admit
Very logical!

What about Scotty????
Spock tugged on his vest here too. What a noble gesture to show respect and admiration for a lifelong friend.
Over 50 years ago and this still brings a smile to my face. Love Spock.
Spock ROCKS
"JIM!" = "I love you"
I love when McCoy says "In a pig's eye!" 😍😅😌

Spock’s Vulcan facade fell away, for just a moment, that is.
These kind of moments are what made Star Trek TOS great
The first time I saw this scene I cried thinking that Spock killed Jim
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
Caught as a 5 year old on reruns. Confused mad then remembered the movies. Confused again til I saw the ending of this episode
After watching the other times Kirk was "dead" I don't buy it anymore. I'm still waiting for Kirk to rise out from under those burial rocks.
i did too
Thats really beautiful 🥲

0:42 Sports doping was cool on Vulcan
Didn't even check his pulse. Vulcans were like "makes sense". They said it with thier eyebrows.
The lady Vulcan knew what was going on but allowed it. Plausible deniability.
My favorite moment of the whole series. Thanks for posting it.
This IS one of the best sceens ever.
Spock's human side showing through-a rare smile 😊
The "JIM!" part taken place AFTER the ritual...He hadn't completely recovered just yet.
This Vulcan ritual seems illogical.
Often people who speak of logic are illogical. "Logical" people can make the case for any barbarity.

Classic scene from a classic television series.
The breathing at the end 😂🤦♂️
Yes, I know. So I wasn't the only one who noticed it
Somebody fast asleep 😄
Lol 😂
Whats with this dude snoring in the mic as he films the screen ? So funny looool
The greatest smile in all of Star Trek’s history.
That wide smile on Spock's face when he spoke "Jim!" was very un-Vulcanlike.
Breathe through the nose my guy.
I agree. Was that suppose to get watchers horny

No no, Spock in Star Treck 6 was ANGRY. In Whrath of Khan he used human metaphors. Sauce for the goose, Mr. Saavik.
He was half human y'know. So in Star Trek 6 he tries to explain friendship with the help of William Blake.
LOVE IT STILL 2024!!! Thank you
Those emotions from his half peeks out
Breathe through the nose.
This show is still great
That was priceless

Qui c'est le plus malin c'est mac coy, le plus fort c'est spoke et le plus beau c'est Jim 🤣❤
I hereby discharge you from duty
Jim!
His human side came out.
His Mom would be beaming!
My heart🤩
Kill spock? That's not what we came to Vulcan 4 is it?
POTENT KIRK no
2:56-2:59 😭
Spock is my all time favorite hero, but I've never liked it, when he got emotional.
The usual even in space. A woman's manipulation was behind this. Amazing scene.
lol yeah...nice pyramid there kenny, and you now have 32 subscribers, oh frabjous day.
With the crap, William Shatner is about to do (Joining RT), Spock would have killed him in real now too.
