Very good topic! - You're helping me to question something I've taken as "just who I am"... You hit upon a question I have about myself... "What is it, that I'm missing?" If I knew that answer I would probably not have as many problems ( socializing) as I do. I can interact well.. ( or I thought I could before really looking at these interactions) and have learned how to respond when I get some clue that I've missed my cue, or "acceptable" response... etc... Its sort of like all the "big foot" sightings... Lots of fuzzy pictures from all different angles that can be called whatever your imagination conceives. I'd be curious to know your "upbringing". I started off as a child feeling who I was, was wrong or unacceptable.. so I took all the social "red flags" not as interesting little social interactions but took them very personally and more like a wounded animal trying to appear healthy. I still did socialize when I was younger and would like to do more now, but it is hard to change such a deep rooted reaction... Maybe even a CPTSD response at times... There are so many factors that make "being autistic" so very unique. But what I've found with my limited experiences with others who are autistic is that "social scrutiny" does not seem to be a factor - well as much at least.. its' still the old feelings and habits that kick in but I think in time those would diminish if not extinguish. I've never been really " out going" because of that anxiety based on " I'm doing something wrong". I'm not sure at this time in my life if what I feel is all the coping strategies to enable myself to stay isolated, or not?
