Lake Como is a pretty good scenery. Wow! Message to the woman with the Rohloff speedhub: "Do not submerge the SPEEDHUB as water will penetrate the gear-unit. Unprotected transportation on a motor vehicle through heavy rain can also lead to water penetration and should be avoided. An oil change should be completed immediately if you believe water may have penetrated the gear-unit." Rohloff manual
@@slow_spokes Wise decision - it is better to be safe than sorry. My Rohloff is still working great (on my much loved Koga Miyata bike) after 20 years; I hope you will experience the same.
14:50 Italy having 5 times the population density compared to the US (or whatever state/area you compare with) isn't the biggest issue. You picked one of the densest populated areas of Italy (and Europe) that also is one of the most popular vacation spots. It is very much like bike touring in a city.
Great job on the video montage! The diversity and quality of all the shots made a very compelling storytelling. Thanks for taking us along; looking forward to the next video!
Ciao! Ottimo video! come sempre. Riconosco molti luoghi a me familiari. Non pensavo che sarei comparso nel video, mi fa piacere e ve ne sono grato. Saluti dall'Italia
Hi! I wanted to include the part where you talk about no-till and how you care for your soil, but I realized the camera wasn’t on at that point. I hope you’re well!
Very beautiful ride on the Adda river! The truss arch bridge you show at 6:19 is the San Michele / Paderno Bridge. It's a beautiful late 1800s cast-iron bridge, and its designer committed suicide before testing it fearing a failure of the bridge. I used to go over it with the train every day to go to the university in Milan! Quite scary 😅
Love the video. I toured Europe back in the early 80s and spent a few weeks in northern Italy. I love Lake Como. Thank you for allowing g me on this journey with you. Brings back great memories.
I saw your channel by chance.. What you do is great. Beautiful filming and shots worth watching. Keep going heroes.. I am an old traveler by bicycle in the eighties. And in our time there were no cameras like this time.. I wish you success🙏🚲
We don’t know! If we did it again honestly we would maybe take a train up the valley to Tirano and take a longer route through the mountains. But that’s just our preference… like we said, we like pain.
Maggie, we’re glad you’re enjoying following our adventures! In this video, I am wearing a helmet from Decathlon, but I’m not sure of the model, and it’s not listed on their website. Also, even though I really want to like the helmet (it fits my head comfortably and has a tiny taillight), the straps are not adjustable, and I find this leaves my forehead way more exposed than I would want if I were ever to actually put the helmet to use.
We both have CatEye AMPP 500s. They work pretty well, and they're not expensive. We've been thinking about dynamo lights, but we just haven't spent the time and money to upgrade yet.
@@slow_spokes found y’all’s channel recently only because I am new to everything bikepacking. Y’all have great channel for info, and appreciate that fact. You guys seem to be well organized and experienced.
I never want to hear another US city ever again complain about the cost of dedicated bike lanes. Holy moly, those arched covered bike lanes around Lake Como look _amazing_.
Hello! The viewings have been extremely exciting. Very professional video editing. I have one question, though: If Hillary used to ride in Italy with a regular external derailleur, now she's riding in the Alps with a Rohloff internal gear hub. How did the Rohloff feel? Was it better, or was there something lacking? I'm asking because I’m considering getting a belt-drive gear system. Thanks in advance, and I wish you many more enjoyable kilometers!

Hey, thanks for letting me know! I hadn’t seen that.
@@slow_spokes You're welcome 🙂

Whooh! New adventure from Slow Spokes? Yes please.
🥰
The White Lotus? Thanks for all the filming! Hope you continue to stay safe, happy, and cycling. Staying up all night binging your channel.
Hahaha oh man, we hope you got some sleep, but what a compliment.
@ I’m up! I immediately told my wife about your channel, travels, and my obsession with both. Headed out for a bike ride then a nap. Hahaha ❤️

Yeah we learned a ton about what routes we like from this!
Awesome adventure and beautifully filmed!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching :)
That drone shot, when you bike in the tunnel was really cool😮
The nice thing about that shot is we got to hang out in the cool dark tunnel longer :)
Great video as always guys! Thankyou.
Thanks for spending your time with us!

After the tunnel, a bit up the road, on the lakeside you rode past George Clooney's famous mansion. 🙂
People kept talking about George Clooney. We weren’t sure which one was his - thanks for telling us!

Thank you! 😃
Beautiful, and tall, and a little intimidating. 😂😂 I can't wait you both climb up that Mountain
We’re excited to share it!!
My girlfriend and I cycled that part from como to Milan in July too, from the other side the flooded part was closed with fences 😮
Oh! We didn’t see any fences when we went through. Maybe that happened after we rode it?
@@slow_spokes I checked and we were there on the last day of July. They must have put up the fence after you were there :)
Awesome! I’ve been looking at doing the same but starting from Venice instead of Milan. I wonder which route is more bike-friendly.

Are your bottom bracket and hubs sealed enough to ride through the deeper water?
You’re the second person to ask that in the last couple minutes. :) most of it is sealed, but the Rohloff needs an oil change.

How is the rohloff holding up? I just got a third one to put on a folding bike. A bike friday.
It’s the best thing I’ve ever done! Chris had derailleur problems the whole trip. Looked annoying 😆
Did you have kamoot set to bike touring or road
This one was set to “gravel ride” :)
Prosciutto is ham. 😅
Try Ride with GPS, it guided me across three countries with no corn fields.
Yeah but monthly fees are no fun…
