Hey y'all! One thing we didn't mention in this video, but which is super important: Leaving No Trace in the desert, and not trampling the unique living soil that makes the desert an incredible place. Here's the best summary of LNT in the Utah desert we've found, in case you're curious: www.visitutah.com/plan-your-trip/forever/leave-no-trace
Chris, Hillary, how have you both been keeping? You both have so enjoyed this trip, and Hillary, you were in your elements thoroughly enjoying every moment of it. Your face was lit up with contentment and satisfaction. Not that Chris wasn’t enjoying it. Thank you for this video. Lots of love to both of you, That Travelling Guy….
Thank you 😊 I think that we’re getting better at capturing the emotions of the moment. At least we are trying to! We’ve been doing really great, just returned home after seeing the total eclipse for the first time. That was a highlight! I hope your travels are going well and you’re safe and happy!
Thanks! We’re glad you found us too! In this video I road a surly bridge club, but it didn’t work for me. We just put out a video of me building out a salsa Fargo that you might be interested in. Either way, glad you’re here!
Wonderful video friends. My home is Taos, New Mexico, but at least once a year I head over into Utah and almost every time stay at valley of the gods and ride my bike up Moki Doug Way and Camp at Molly point and the area around it. It’slike going to church for me or pilgrimage you might say. Definitely excited to branch out into some of the other areas that you explored on a bike packing trip my dog sometimes rides on the back of my bike and runs so she’ll be joining me. It’s difficult but amazing to have my best friend with me.
Your two seem a perfect match. Hard enough to find a compatible bikepacking partner, but to have it be your SO is amazing! Great job and thanks for taking the effort to put this together. Inspiring! I haven't done this one yet and it just moved up my list :)
We do think about that a lot. We’ve adventured together a lot and we’re so grateful that we’re usually on the same page about what feels safe, what feels sketchy, when to push and when to rest. I hope you get to head down there! And thanks for the comment, it means a lot!
That is such a great area to bike pack. I have been fortunate enough to ride the White Rim Trail, Grand Staircase Escalante and Capital Reef National Park. This brought back great memories! It looks like Hillary got a new bike? What did you get and do you like it? Cheers, Doug PS- loved the Ted Talk Chris! lol
Hi Doug! Hillary here. It was an incredible place, and we can't wait to go back. We drove through Escalante and there's just so much to explore. Right now I'm working on the video of the next trip, which is near Hanksville & Capitol Reef. So cool! I did get a new bike: a Surly Bridge Club, and nope, I didn't like it. No matter what I did, I couldn't get comfortable on it. My local bike fit guy even told me he wouldn't charge me for a fit, and that no other size of this bike would feel right. So I actually built a bike -- that video will be out soon too!
Super inspiring! How nice to be chauffeured by UDOT :D. You totally scored with the weather. How much water did you carry with you? Were there many refill points along the route?
We really did score with the weather. After the rainstorm came and went, the ground dried up but we were often leaving the first prints on trails and roads. We carried 12 liters each, but that was too much because the weather was cooler than expected. Better than not enough, though! The only reliable refill point was in Mexican Hat, about halfway through the route. So it was about 2.5 days between refills.
Nice work - both the ride and the excellent film! I have been looking at this route for last couple of years and it is certainly beautiful. I am curious about how much time you had to push your bikes through the sand? I run 55mm knobbies and it looks good for most of the route - except the deep sand!
Excellent video, and makes me want to head to Utah. I love the map/route animation at 1:03 and have tried similar with PowerDirector 365 without much luck. What did you use for that?
Hey guys, loving the videos! Been binging ur channel the last couple of nights. Chris, how tall are you and what size shirt do you wear? I want one of those merino hoodies, been trying to find one for ages...
We’re so glad to have you following along! I (Chris) am about 5’10” 155 pounds with a 38” chest and I wear a small in the Ridge Merino Solstice Sun Hoody. www.ridgemerino.com/collections/natural-upf-sun-protection?avad=352085_d3c954ab9
At first I thought Toby from the Office and Greta Thunberg had taken up bike touring 😮 I'm just kidding, you guys make a much cuter couple. Seriously though, excellent video!
Hi Carol! The bikes in this video aren’t e-bikes, but Hillary does have one that she uses to commute to work in the summer (it doesn’t work as well in the cold, so she only uses it when it’s warm out.) It’s a game changer! Do you have one?
I'nm glad that I stumbled across this video, thank you!!
Hey thanks! Looks like we’ve been in the same area recently. Congrats on your most recent video doing so well!
@@slow_spokesSpring is the time to be in that desert!
Great adventure guys thanks for sharing.
The filming-editing is second to none, awesome.
Looking ahead to your next one...
Thank you! That’s good to hear - glad you liked it.

A great reminder of the beautiful adventures that can be had closer to home :)
Timely for you, eh? We wish you all the nearby adventures this year. (Partly selfishly, since we want to watch them!)
@@slow_spokes Yes for sure! Thank you so much :)
That looks really impressive!
Haha, thanks! I'm glad it looks impressive... it was really hard. :)
Absolutely stunning landscape
Thanks!
Nice! Really love this area, we spent a lot of time in Moab.
Thanks! We just passed through Moab to grab a beer and pizza. I know we just scratched the surface of what to do around there for sure.
You guys are awesome! Love your adventures. Love your videos.
Thanks so much!
This made me extremely jealous! I miss seeing the desert southwest
Your name cracks us up :) and thanks!
So glad I found you guys- great video
Hillary I would appreciate information on what bike you ride Thank You

What an intriguing title! Can't wait to dive into your backpacking adventure across "Weirdish Wild Space." We sent you an email, take a look.

Interesting, I have a Surly ECR and Ogre. Will be good to see what you end up with.

15:17 the stars! My favorite part.
Hi! Just saw your comment, it was buried. We spent probably 3 hours pushing through sand I think. It wasn’t too bad, but it was the hottest 3 hours :)
That sure looks fun. What drone do you use?
Thanks! It’s a DJI Mini 3.
0:05 Thank you. I'll never be able to see everything by bicycle that my home Country(U.S.) has to offer but I've seen a lot.
Probably the best (and worst?) part... there's always more to explore, but also... we wish we could go everywhere!
Excellent video, and makes me want to head to Utah. I love the map/route animation at 1:03 and have tried similar with PowerDirector 365 without much luck. What did you use for that?
I used davinci resolve. It’s been hard to figure out maps and I still would love to get better at them but davinci resolve is the easiest I’ve found!

That’s the third person who has said I look like Greta Thunberg. 😅
Ha! Honestly, I had to think up one for you because I wanted to make the Toby comparison 😂

Fart on, farter! 😂
