The Siddha Baba Tunnel under construction on the Butwal-Palpa section of the Siddhartha Highway has been inaugurated. The tunnel was inaugurated after Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli addressed the gathering through a virtual address at a formal ceremony held at the project's base camp in Tinau Rural Municipality Ward No. 3, Palpa.
The tunnel, which began digging on Magh 4, 2080 BS, has been completed in just one year. A 1,126-meter-long tunnel is being constructed from Siddha Baba Temple in Ward No. 3 of Tinau Rural Municipality, Palpa, to Butwal Power House.
At the program, Prime Minister Oli said that the tunnel would not only make it easier for passengers traveling via the Siddhartha Highway but also facilitate the transportation of products from the hilly districts to Butwal.
Three bypass tunnels have been installed for emergency exit in case of any problem on the tunnel route. All three bypass tunnels, 151 meters, 161 meters, and 130 meters, have already been drilled.
Due to the high cliffs and rocky hills along the Siddhartha Highway from Dobhan in Palpa to Siddhababa, the Siddhababa road section is prone to frequent landslides during the monsoon and winter. Approximately 4 kilometers of this section of the road is always at high risk of landslides during the monsoon and winter.
