When you actually stop to think about it - most gaming communities are trash, as you put. Play a competitive game like CS:GO, Rainbow six: Seige, Valorant, Call of Duty, Rocket League, League of Legends, Overwatch, so on and so forth. Most of these games have a means of judging you based upon your skill; "Ranked"/"Competitive". Again, in most of these games, you typically have to achieve some type of small achievement to begin playing in these ranked/competitive play-modes, such as; reach level 25 or win 10 games. Now, most people when playing those games, get a false sense of... "oh wow this community is so nice, helpful, etc." because once you tell someone you're new...they tend to...not be harsh on you. However, the second you go and play competitive, the very moment that you underperform, they jump on the opportunity to insult you, make you feel like shit, get upset with you, even yell and use racial or homophobic slurs. WoW... well, WoW isn't half as toxic as most of these other communities. You might have guild drama, or loot drama, maybe PvP drama, but that's childs play compared to the toxicity in those other games. I've seen players literally doxx people in Valorant lobbies, I've seen players in Rocket League telling each-other that they should just kill themselves. I've seen people in Overwatch calling their team-mates "Ni**ers". You name it, I've probably seen it. and I remember Tserics rant quite vividly. During that time, in TBC people bitched. They bitched a lot. Tseric and Ghostcrawler caught a lot of bullshit, simply because they responded, as it was their job. As stated, somebody could be new to the game, and they could go to utilize the forums, and the second that either of them responded, it'd be followeod with a barrage of people bitching and moaning about this class being too strong or this class being too weak, to the extent that most of these people just sounded like 13 year old children. Past a certain point, those trolls also knew that they could get a response out of one of them. Now...though... I think the WoW forums are pretty much dead. If they aren't, then this type of bullshittery doesn't really happen anymore. WoW has evolved past the point of people bitching about class balance. Now they bitch and cry about other stuff, like lack of quality in the game, having to beta test finished expansions on release, bad expansion gimmicks, etc, etc.
4:30 it does kind of make sense. You could draw aggro and start healing allies. It sucks how low Paladins are on the DPS totem pole, cuz it's my favorite class in retail, and I wanted to play it in WoW Classic too before i realized how bad it was
Tseric was 100 percent in the right when he wrote that. The crazy part is, 14 plus years later he is even MORE correct with what he wrote in comparison with today's landscape.
was expecting to see the eye of haramad - i can remember that i loved to get keys for the keychain and it was the only one i got that was rare. you also had to do an obnoxious questline and i like to think that i was the only one on the server or one of very few who did that questline at the time especially because you didnt get something good out of it (my buddy who got the insane title later in the game didnt even bother with that; maybe thats why i think its rare but idk for sure)
"They were afraid Paladins could heal themselves up" How? By bubbling first or by casting a 5 second Holy Light while being pushed back by 5 mobs? Paladin development in Vanilla was really interesting ^^ But this is part of what makes Classic WoW amazing, isnt it?
Yeah it was pretty funny listening to the interview because of how obviously un-broken it is. But they were super concerned that paladins would be op because of it lol
@Longwriter made an old series looking back on the history of paladins over the years called "Does Blizzard really hate paladins?", the evidence makes it obvious that some of the devs really hated paladins and by extension "hybrid" classes but especially paladins and did what they could to hold them back and make them as week as they could compared to others like warriors and rogues.
Blizzard said that they "forgot" about the player obtainable Ashbringer, but I think that's a load of shit. When they were first making references to the Ashbringer in late vanilla, they might've known that they were going to make a Northrend expansion, but the details were probably still up in the air. The Ashbringer may've even just been a hint to that. However, when TBC launched, they probably had the bare-bones story written out, the one where the Ashbringer went to...Tirion Fordring. Take this into consideration with David Wayne, and I think it's pretty obvious that they didn't "forget." Rather, I think it's more likely that they had changed the story, removed any plans for the player obtainable weapon, and were just making up an excuse that didn't immediately reveal story details of WotLK.
Honestly, the jar of ashes message reads 100% as a masseage from a game dev tired of being overworked and underappreciated. When WoW had come out, Blizzard had already become a pretty big company, but by the time TBC came out it was a full-on corporation. And I wasn't there, but due to my previous job, I've seen the process firsthand in many companies across many industries including videogame developers. The people on top completely lose touch with the people at the bottom as an ever-growing new layer of middle-managers and administrators become the new leaders of daily operations. And suddenly, if you are at the bottom, you no longer matter. Suddenly, creative decisions have to be approved by a marketing department that is composed mostly of people that come from the retail business. Suddenly, if you have a problem you don't tell the boss, you have to go to HR, and to them the fact that you have a problem IS the problem, and therefore YOU are the problem. Suddenly, you are not creating art, you are not developing a game, you are just -working-. One of the WC3 developers had a series of videos talking about how it was to work at the game. He explained how they would sit in a room and Metzen would explain what each mission in the campaigns was supposed to be, and then each level developer would call dibs on the ones they liked or found interesting, and then would be given a level of creative liberty I absolutely don't believe anyone has in current day Blizzard. Being there for that process can already be extremely draining and demotivating for an artist under normal circumstances. Add to that that the gaming industry is already so exploitative under normal circumstances and that the developers would be under a lot of pressure from a lot of greedy hands wanting to have their hand in the jar of the most profitable game of its time, and honestly, I'm surprsed nobody has burned the fucking Blizzard building to this day.
What happened to Tseric is sad. Unfortunately im not surprised about the toxic behavour online. But if the Peons note was from him, then its good that Blizzard desided not to remove it.
I stopped playing wow as I graduated high school almost a decade ago (2012) I started playing in my 6th grade year and was very good 4x gladiator over different seasons and also in a top 50 world guild. It’s nice to watch these videos for a brief recap on something that was ever so consuming on my life(had like 200 played days on my dk by cata) without losing that time I’ve come to appreciate and try my best to take advantage of
The fact that they thought being able to cast healing spells while tanking would be too powerful makes me wonder if they had ever played the game at all...

how old is the clip at 1:36 ?
Should do a feature on The Unknown Soldier rare in Duskwood, or Ogdrul in Trueshot Lodge
TBC "The Bullying Cry out"
It sucks how low Paladins are on the DPS totem pole, cuz it's my favorite class in retail, and I wanted to play it in WoW Classic too before i realized how bad it was
The old gods would LOVE the WoW forums. 🐙
Tseric was 100 percent in the right when he wrote that. The crazy part is, 14 plus years later he is even MORE correct with what he wrote in comparison with today's landscape.
and if you think about it, what he was complaining about has leaked out across the internet and is hitting real life.
@@lordjaraxxus5418 Absolutely. No doubt about it.
What's the background music?
Blizzard should pin Tseric's monologue in the Main hall of Blizzard HQ
was expecting to see the eye of haramad - i can remember that i loved to get keys for the keychain and it was the only one i got that was rare. you also had to do an obnoxious questline and i like to think that i was the only one on the server or one of very few who did that questline at the time especially because you didnt get something good out of it (my buddy who got the insane title later in the game didnt even bother with that; maybe thats why i think its rare but idk for sure)
"They were afraid Paladins could heal themselves up"
How?
Amazing video
I think I was on the wow forums maybe a handful of times and it was only if I needed to reference patch notes. I nope'd out of there pretty quick.
Love the videos
Wait a minute… You are the guy from “TheDuelLogs” aren’t you? I have been following both channels from long long ago and just realized that!!!
10:20 this guy got fed up with the fact that our generation is the generation of selfish psychopaths, and that realization pretty clean.
what what that last bit about not subbing?
What happened to Tseric is sad. Unfortunately im not surprised about the toxic behavour online.
But if the Peons note was from him, then its good that Blizzard desided not to remove it.
I stopped playing wow as I graduated high school almost a decade ago (2012) I started playing in my 6th grade year and was very good 4x gladiator over different seasons and also in a top 50 world guild. It’s nice to watch these videos for a brief recap on something that was ever so consuming on my life(had like 200 played days on my dk by cata) without losing that time I’ve come to appreciate and try my best to take advantage of
That ending, too late! I’m already subbed 😂
The fact that they thought being able to cast healing spells while tanking would be too powerful makes me wonder if they had ever played the game at all...
wait he born and grew up in Outland ? how long was the Alliance there for ?
20 years or so? I'm not 100% sure, it was a long time, but not like super long.
this is so cool
The CM was very wise. If only more people listened to him. Just look at the pvp update for classic. It's shameful how vile many people get on there
@Quetip24 i dont know where this conception comes from. I see people using their real name and being awful people all the time. People absolutely dont need anonymity to be an awful person.
And it’s LITTLE DETAILS like this, is why WoW is auch a Good Game. Things like that matter a lot
That might be a reference to Harry Potter and the Portrait of What Looked Like a Large Pile of Ash.
12:47 Blizzard? Is that you? :(
I feel bad for CM, can't imagine how GMs and community manager manage to deal with such toxicity for decade.
Great video!
Much love from Ohio. ❤✌
Still love your vids mate
this is the WOW i love and lost
Well, let me tell you that David Wayne in Renault Mograine...
