    A drill guide will help to consistently drill 90-degree holes with a hand drill. Drill guides are commercially available but are pricey. This simple do-it-yourself project provides an inexpensive alternative.

    That metal on metal seems like a good way to dull your bit.

      I guess so if you press the bit hard against the metal corner brace and angle the bit too much. I just use the jig occasionally so I'm not worried about dulling my bits.
      Thanks for the feedback!

      I don't think wood drill bits work this way. The swirls are to extract sawdust. From their side, drill bits are more or less flat. Only the tip sharpness matters.

      without the metal bracket, the bit may abrade the inside corner of the wood and your bit may not actually be going straight in

    For everyone that is asleep! It is impossible to drill a hole at a perfect 90 degree angle without some sort of jig!!! I think it was a great idea and you can’t beat the price! Thanks for the tip!

      Thanks for the advice. When I build an outerspace rocket I'll use a jig.

    This could actually be handy. One thing to help might be to add some sort of nonstick surface to the bottom to keep it from walking.

      Hey… that’s a great idea! I’ll stick on a few self adhesive anti-skid pads. Thanks!

    We really gonna act like that jig didn't move while drilling?

      Just glue 80 grit sandpaper underneath the jig or clamp it. This just a demo

    I can still see daylight in the first butting up to the drill bit?

      Yup! Not perfect, but good enough for most of my needs. I can’t drill anywhere near perpendicular without the jig. 😎

    I might be having a blond moment here LOL but what is the sense of this video? What is it used for? Thank you

      He’s made a guide so that he can ensure that he is drilling a straight hole.

    Bro you could have just made a drill guide with 1 piece of wood
    You over complicated this

    • @HacksbyDad
      @HacksbyDad  11 місяців тому

      Thanks! You’re right, but the other hole is too close to the corner and would interfere with larger drill bits. Also, adding the other pieces of wood made the rig more stable.

    Too complicated for a simple job and the result is not that accurate.

    It looks like a solution for a problem that doesn’t exist.

      I guess I might be one of the few who can’t drill a near perpendicular hole without a drill press. My attempts by eyeballing it with cordless drills are always way off the mark.

      @@HacksbyDad I’m not drilling perpendicular either which I notice when using a hammer drill in concrete. I have learned not to push to hard and let the drill do most of the work.

      @@janverhave Thanks! I'll keep that in mind the next time I'm working on something.

      When you're working with a piece through which you need a bolt to enter and exit perpendicalirily, this matters a lot. That's why press / column drills exist.

  • @jarjarium2539
    @jarjarium2539 3 роки тому +2

    Maybe just hold the drill perpendicular to your work 🤔

    • @HacksbyDad
      @HacksbyDad  3 роки тому +6

      LOL
      Believe me... I've tried so many times and failed miserably. I just don't have the eye to drill a hole close to perpendicular and need a jig.

      It's a guide to drill holes perpendicular to the piece of wood. Without it... my holes are way off angle when I try to eyeball it. LOL
