  • Coconut shell is the strongest part covered in coconut fruit. They are often used to make crafts or active carbon materials. I have made some bowls from coconut shells. They looks quite interesting and eco-friendly.
To know how I made these cute bowls, check this video!
    Tools and Materials:
    ◾ Coconut Shell
    ◾ Wood Chisel
    ◾ 80, 240, 400 Grit Sandpaper
    ◾ Coconut Opener Tool
    ◾ Belt Sander
    ◾ Vise Jaws
◾ Dremel Variable Speed Rotary Tool
◾ High-Speed Steel Mini Saw Blade
    ◾ Hand Coconut Grater
    ◾ Food Grade Mineral Oil
    ◾ Clean Cloth

Here's a little trick to save some time, after cutting it in half place it in the freezer over night, the meat will pop out easily leaving a clean surface inside, and you can still eat the meat.

They are beautiful. Coconut is also amazingly rot resistant. I "lost" a half shell in some trench digging spoil which remained there for about 15 years, deep inside damp clay soil. When I eventually dug away that pile I found the coconut shell still in perfect condition. There was also some wood in taht pile which had disintegrated to mush.

You don't need it. Power tools just speeds up the process.
You can use all hand tools if you want.

Sandpaper, saw, knife, marker, and oil. That´s all you need. Just a slow proces.

You can but you'll have to reapply the mineral oil, i recommend using beeswax instead or any other edible wax so that it doesn't wash out if you use it for soups or if you wash it
