  • This is a full tutorial for the decorating & painting process of portrait cookies - I cookiefy myself here (which was a weird experience LOL)!
To get started you'll need a photo of your subject (I sized mine to 5 inches and printed it out), and I used the photo to cut the cut shape from the dough.
This tutorial involves the use of a projector, which I highly recommend! You can find them on Amazon and they are worth the investment!
You'll also need royal icing for the skin colour, hair colour, and any clothing colours. For painting, you'll need fine watercolour brushes and a glass of water for cleaning your brush, you'll also need food-grade activated charcoal powder, food colouring, grain alcohol or vodka (the higher the proof the better!). It's also helpful to have some paper towel on hand!

Amazing work. Do you mix the gel colors with anything to paint? Like water or everclear?

sure!! There are a bunch of great options available through amazon: This one is the most affordable, although it requires constant power and does not have a rechargeable battery(www.amazon.com/Projector-PVO-Portable-Cartoon-Interfaces/dp/B08B8DKYPS/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=pocket+projector&qid=1608703569&sr=8-3); these ones are more expensive but are also great and have a rechargeable batteries so they don't need to be constantly plugged in: www.amazon.com/AAXA-Technologies-KP-101-01-Projector-built/dp/B005TAXDPK/ref=sr_1_9?dchild=1&keywords=pocket+projector&qid=1608703569&sr=8-9, and www.amazon.com/Kodak-Ultra-Portable-Projector-Built/dp/B078NCG82N/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=pocket+projector&qid=1608703714&sr=8-8

Are you using different consistency of royal icing for your boarder for the hair ? Or ate you just outlining then flooding in the rest with a different consistency

    • @lucier1989

one portrait usually takes me 2-3 hours to paint (not including the baking, icing, and drying time!) I guess it depends on how many you plan on making, but you can make them a week or two in advance as long as you heat seal them so they stay fresh!

So you use food coloring to paint on it? And it’s watered down with alcohol? I’ve seen other tutorials use food gel but I don’t have those :( I only have food coloring so I just want to make sure that that is what you are using :)

    • @lucier1989
      @lucier1989  4 роки тому +1

You’ll want to use a food colouring brand such as Wilton or chefmaster! Personally I wouldn’t recommend the standard grocery store food colourings, such as club house brand). Chefmaster is my favourite brand for food colourings (sugarlovedesigns.com sells all the colours!)

HI there Lucy, this is such a helpful tutorial and im really keen to give these a try and master them just like you! I am already quite strong in drawing so I hope i can catch it quite quickly, I just have a couple of questions if you dont mind. Which projector would you recommend? Also you mention chef master products in one comment and on the tutorial you mention activated charcoal. So you use both? Why not just use black coloring? What brushes would you recommend that i purchase? Thanks in advance. Chelsea

    • @lucier1989

I use the miroir pocket projector but I can’t find a link to it (it may have been discontinued), but the Kodak pocket projector (www.amazon.ca/Kodak-Ultra-Portable-Projector-Built/dp/B078NCG82N/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=pocket+projector&qid=1630219189&sr=8-8) is also a great one! And yes I use chefmaster gel colours, but I also love using food-grade activated coconut charcoal powder for small black details because the colour doesn’t bleed or fade over time! Black food gel is great if you don’t have charcoal on hand, but I personally find the charcoal produces the best results (black food gel when used for cookie painting can often have blue undertones, and if you’re painting like a fine black line, the colour can often fade to grey or bleed out into the icing - that doesn’t happen with charcoal powder!)

Oh and the finer the brush the better! I have some super fine ones in my online shop (luciebakes.com, the rainbow quill brushes; and inspiredtotaste carries the same brushes but with a mermaid design), but you could also get ultra fine tipped water colour brushes from an art supplies store and that would be perfect too!

Oh thanks so much for all of this. Id love to order from your store but i live in the middle east, Dubai, so its not possible. If you could send me a link to the activated charcoal that would be super helpful.

so your ENTIRE tutorial is based on the use of a projector.... and the only thing you do to help ppl who want to do the same and follow your tutorial... is to tell them " im using a projector!" " you can find them on amazon" No sh*t? I totally thought you were a wizard. placing images on cookies with your mind.
Anyway thanks for the tip of NOT telling me WHAT kind of projector it is- WHAT brand you used or even providing any kind of link at all. Im sure that the moment I type " projector" into Amazon's search bar the first thing I'll find is a projector specifically used to project images onto cookies!
So really why watch your tutorial at all right I mean... other than giving me the idea of projected images onto cookies its not like watching your video actually helped me find the materials YOU USED so even if I do find my own projector its not like I'll be able to follow your exact tutorial. Thanks anyway? I guess?

She GRACIOUSLY, and WITHOUT charging us one penny, showed you how SHE does it and you're B-ing that she didn't come to your house & hold your damn hand?!! Get a life, you ungrateful, disrespectful know it all.
