    Sorry, I have nothing to add either way about riding mowers though. I have heard a lot of good things about Cub Cadet though.
    Cheers!

    I, like you, prefer a Cub Cadet! The problem is with service, however, as most service people don't associate with Cub Cadet because they are slow paying their service agents. In my area in Western CT. there were no service outlets for more than 75 miles. I finally just used my old stand by service, at my own expense, to have the work done which should have been warrantee items. CC really needs to improve this system, but then again why should they when in the end the customer pays for items the warrantee should cover.

    Northern tool offers some disks thatd work with that mower, but idk about a plowing attachment. Disking is great for breaking up and evening out tilled soils.

    I have an old John degree rider. It's ok. It has its issues like anything else but its easy to keep going
    Now I bought a big used cub cadet. 48". Fron the work I've done on it getting it in top shape and wjat I've talked to others they have some common issues mostly with the belt tensioner. I disconnected the lever that puts the brakes on the blade. It sticks and wouldn't let the blade spin-up again. Others haven't had that problem and this summer I may lower the deck again and see if I need to change a spring. I replaced the belt cable because everyone said that's common but it was not my problem. I am happy with my choice. The previous owner k kws the John deeres well and he thinks they really are the same machine.

    I have the same mower and I truly like it a lot but after using it for about 15 minutes when I disengage the blades, turn the key to off, it wants to sputter on & off acting like the blades are still engaged but they're not. The shop I bought it from said they can't find anything wrong with it. The mower does not do that with them. When I'm done cutting I,,,,,
    cut the throttle down
    disengage the blades
    lift the deck
    turn the key to off
    Am I missing something? Because it sputters, acting like the blades are still engaged for about 6 ta 8 seconds every time.

    Do you find that the deck belt vibrates excessively on the left side of the deck ? I have the same mower but it's the GT model with the diff lock and the deck belt seems to have an unusually long distance between pulleys on the left side. Mine slaps around like crazy dt the span between pulleys. Seems to be designed that way to me. I also have a 60 inch cub cadet and that deck is very smooth with no belt flop or vibration. It seems these 54 inch decks do not have a tensioner for the belt.

    • @jzm6403
      @jzm6403 12 днів тому

      Deck Vibration is very likely a pulley out of alignment or the bearing. Don't assume the bearing has grease. If it's sealed, it could still be bad. I recently saw a guy with an XT2 and his sealed Spindle bearings were dry on one side from the factory. He took it apart, regreased it and put the cap back on. Re-installed the Spindle and all was smooth.

      If you haven't already, install the oil drain mod that actually drains ALL the oil and not just 1/2 quart - at 50 damn dollars.... Don't really worry about any maintenance schedule, the SOB's have ONLY a 2 year/120 hour warranty.... The TRUE indicator of how long JD expects their mower to last....

      @@ainttakenanyshitthat's true of the 100 series mowers with the entry level Briggs and stratton engines,but they also offer their x300 x500,and x700 that are all Kawasaki powered and have a much better warranty. John deere also has a much better dealer network than cub cadet
      I do have both dealers in my area and both are great,but I only have a handful of cub dealers in my state whereas I have 3 john deere dealers within 30 minutes drive of each other. Cub cadets are alot cheaper,maybe that's a sign of their quality

      @@ciphercode2298 Good point about service locations, but, as a retired electrical/mechanical design engineer the fact that someone at JD actually approved and thought it was proper, to make the 25% oil change a recommended service item. I know for damn sure YOUR auto oil change is draining ALL THE OIL - why, because you are smart enough to know that the old oil remaining still has contaminates in it. Just didn't sit right what JD "approved" for an oil change...

      @@ainttakenanyshit I dont like the thought of that kind of oul change either,and they know that not everyone would want it. That's why they offer a kit that's able to convert it back. The kit switches it back to a standard system and it costs less than their gimmicky 30 second oil change filter. It only takes about 10 minutes to switch it back to normal. You dont have to be an engineer to understand that,but thanks for sharing your credentials though,very impressive 😉👍

    I'm still on the fence between a John Deere x350 and a Cub XT2. I only need a 42" mower. If the Cub had a Kawasaki twin engine, it would be an easy choice. The John Deere does. It also has a dash fuel gauge and the option to mulch or throw the grass. Cub cannot do this. I do not care about the fabricated deck and have read many reports of broken welds. Have also see many very poor welds that we not applied correctly. I was a welder for more than 20 years so I know what to look for. The stamped decks have been around for many years and are very reliable. My main drawback is the Kohler engine. Maybe the twin isn't as bad as the single cylinder Kohler (noise wise). Previously Kohlers were always the loudest on the block. I do NOT want this. I've seen video's where you simply cannot hear anything while the new Kohler is running. I will check this out in person this week. If the new twin is too loud, then it will be a Deere for me. I know I would sleep better knowing I had a Kawasaki engine in my shed instead of a Kohler.

    • @jaredfox777
      @jaredfox777 13 днів тому

      You wouldn't lose sleep owning the V-Twin Kohler. I have the XT2 with 25 hours on it. It's a beast, I just mowed my little jungle 10 in tall grass with it. Made easy work of it

      The Fabricated deck is well built, I have a lot of pine trees on the property. I bump the trees with the deck trying to get too close sometimes haha.

    • @jzm6403
      @jzm6403 12 днів тому

      @@jaredfox777 A fabricated deck isn't anything special. It is just an easier cheaper way of making a heavier duty deck. I've seen many from Cub Cadet that had uneven welds (more weld on the band than on the deck) As a welder for more than 20 years I've seen plenty of this. Also, there's no way of telling if the proper amount of heat was used when the deck was welded. These decks appear to be mig welded before painting. I sincerely hope your corners (also welded) hold up. They crack from mostly from constant vibration, not from bumping into things. One recent buyer had several cracks on his Cub Fab deck after 3 years. Previous Cubs as well as Deere's and many other stamped decks are still here without issue. I prefer stamped. 25 hours is still new.

    • @jzm6403

      @@jaredfox777 Thanks but you made no mention of the noise the Kohler makes. My primary reason for choosing a Kawasaki. I think most guys that are in the know would choose aa Kawasaki over a Kohler if given the choice. HUGE mistake by Cadet choosing to put Kohler engines in the XT2 instead of Kawasaki. I'm sure this has to do with cost. I'm also looking at the Deere S240. Very close in price to the XT2 but has the Kawasaki. Thanks for your input and good luck with your Cub.

    I have a 2023 JD S170 and it has 15.7 hrs on it. So far cheap plastic steering wheel cracked and took weeks to get in. Now the belt to the lawn mower deck broke and I have to pay $100 for the service center to pick it up and they seem unsure if it will be covered by warranty! Less than 16 hours of cutting my flat 1/3 acre grass in the suburbs. The hood has no support to stop the wind from catching it and breaking it, just plastic junk. I was going to get a snow blower but found out the impeller is made of plastic! Are you kidding me?! The dealership said this is entry level so they’re plastic. Total junk. My neighbor has a cheap tractor with a snow blower and it has a steel impeller, so does my push snow blower. JD Is greedy and resting on their laurels and ripping us off. I thought JD was top of the line and just bought the best one they had at Lowes. I’m going to sell it this spring and look at the competition.

    • @jzm6403
      @jzm6403 12 днів тому

      Lowes has entry level mowers as does Home Depot. Plastic? Every mower made now has plastic. Likely the reason your belt broke was the person who put it together. Lowes NEVER double checks any of this. A Dealer would. I've heard many say their belts lasted years. Pulley Alignment is the most likely cause. I've even seen some sealed bearings without grease from the factory. Again, this is what you get sometimes with entry level. Others are very lucky. Check Market place and see how many like yours are for sale. I was a mechanic for almost 50 years before retiring 4 years ago and have just about seen it all.

      BETTER at P-Poor design engineering - the "quick change" oil idea was JD's plan on early engine failure with removing only 1/2 quart of the 2 quart capacity. Yea, that makes BS sense.... PLASTIC spindle covers vs CC METAL.... JD's 2 year/120 hour warranty vs CC 3 year/UNLIMITED HOURS warranty.... Yea, better at stealing you cash with P-Poor designs and belts flying off.... Scheese....
