  • As the ultraconservative Kingdom of Saudi Arabia promotes a new willingness to espouse more liberal social policies towards women, FRANCE 24 is joined by Lina al-Hathloul, Head of Monitoring and Advocacy at ALQST for Human Rights, following the arrest of her sister, Loujain al-Hathloul, an activist and popular fitness instructor widely followed on social media. Amid a widespread crackdown on dissent across the kingdom, Ms Loujain al-Hathloul is being charged with rebellion, defaming the kingdom, and taking on the justice system. Our guest Ms. Lina Al-Hathloul dismisses the kingdom's "PR campaign that Saudi Arabia's undertaking to flirt with the West to have tourists visit the country." She asserts that the kingdom remains "a dictatorship and a police state" where nothing has improved for the population of 36 million, au contraire: "It has even gotten worse with the unprecedented prison sentences" and executions, even of minors.

    Who would have thought Saudi Arabia will be 'liberal'

    • @gavinmc5285
      @gavinmc5285 Рік тому +4

      monarchies are not liberal by virtue of their institution, it is only a question of if demand for liberalism can be a concession to offset the draw of absolutism.

      @@gavinmc5285 after all you may question why a single person or a family should have absolute authority over an entire country. Which doesn't sound so nice considering their so called religion claims everyone is equal in god's eyes or at least that's what they say

    It's not activism, it's the exercise of individualism.
    What makes no sense? If it was not for persons exercise individualism, there would be no entrepreneurs. So, to exercise individualism is to embrace, the rise of entrepreneurship

      Women are happy and enjoying their lives in muslim societies and in Saudi too...Europe has no need to worry about us....be worry about yourself where in your father,brothers,sons and husband are not willing to take you people responsibilities and women have to work just to pay for their basic needs....Alhumdulilah in muslim society if a woman is willing to work she can but she is not forced by her family to work and earn and pay her basic bills...Stop islamophobic agenda...

    Women in Saudi are now given permission to drive, go to anywhere. After 30 years they will be like any other countries. So why they do not give all the priveleges all to women of tey know at the end they are going to permit them. Funny ... 😅
