    Three Houses was my first SRPG and I played it on normal. I’m starting Engage soon and thinking about kicking it up to hard mode, so these videos have been super helpful!

      Do it, youz can always lower it, no reason to not go hard. I started with Maddening and its managable

      Go classic maddening or go home. You won't find both absolute ecstasy and despair anywhere else.

      @@omg.mesohungry I’ll definitely go maddening in a future game or a repeat playthrough, but I’d like to get a few more SRPGs under my belt first haha

      Good choice. I think this game is very well balanced, even on Maddening. I’m doing Hard/Classic myself and it’s been tough at times but never frustrating.

      same, though and im playing hard on engage as well
      here is my take, in hard you cannot just move forward even to kill an enemy and provide a semi wall of tank and other physical shields, they will go in on you just to kill your unit, no matter how stupid it is, i absolutely refuse to let my units die. so if you have like 3units on you and 4 or 5 just one turn way, tread very carefully
      in normal there is non of that. just move 3 characters there and they will survive where 2 of them will get killed in hard

    You generally want to deplete the enemy numbers as fast as possible because every unit you kill eliminates any attacks the enemy can make with that unit on future turns. What you do not want to do is pepper lots of different units with piecemeal damage that leaves them alive. If you have to concentrate firepower to eliminate one unit instead of just wounding multiple units it's better to do that. This becomes doubly true with the boss as if you can bring enough damage to bear on him you win the map without even having to deal with any other units.
    A unit with one HP can still dish out as much damage as a unit at full HP. A dead unit can't deal any damage at all.
    The exception to this rule is crowd control moves which can sometimes reduce the number of actions you need to spend in order to kill the same number of units. Crowd control is any attack that hits multiple units, such as Sigurd's limit break which lets you hit a whole file of units at once.
    What makes the game difficult is that butchering as many units as possible isn't worth it if you overextend yourself and wind up taking it in the ass because you made no effort to avoid being in range of the enemy. If a move would one shot an enemy unit but exposes your unit to multiple attackers, it usually won't be worth it. Keeping your units safe generally takes priority over killing enemy units because they will always have units to spare -- you don't. Every unit you lose cuts the number of actions you can take per turn.
    So the whole game is figuring out how to balance these two things. That's game essence.

    I think during early-game, it's good to consider centering your turn order around Alear to make the most of Divinely Inspiring. Depending on whether it's an offensive or defensive turn, Alear's position could make or break a sequence of battles.

    Hit rates are the other big thing to track - if you have a bunch of ideas of what you want to attack, but part of the strategy relies on a low percentage hit chance, you probably want to try going for that attack first so you can play around it if there's a miss.

    I'd say something like 95% of my unit deaths are due to bad positioning.

    Can you make a video covering other stats like Dexterity, Luck and Avoid. Avoid sounds self explanatory but im also wondering if high speed or luck affects those stats. Cheers.

    Off topic but.....anyone else find Hortenia's special class to be the worst? I can't help but fail to find any scenario where being able to fly but be limited to B rank tomes is more useful than just making her a sage. Hell even the skill for her special class is bad because it relies upon rng based on your dex.

    • @custom-r
      @custom-r Рік тому

      She just needs more attacking power. Plus most staves that are normally used can be used by Sages.

      @Custom-R I feel like I understand why mounted units can't use s rank tomes but they should still have access to A rank.

      I would argue Hortensia is by far the best healer, 2 range mends and preserving a utility staff use like Entrap or Fortify even with a 20% chance still gets you an extra use on average. The flying utility is a cherry on top.

    • @RaidenKaiser
      @RaidenKaiser Рік тому

      @Definitely Not Shanque I never said her as a unit is the problem it's her class. There are a ton of archers in this game and unlike other flier focused characters she doesn't have the best avoid for me. Also doesn't help the fact that the class skill is too rng to be reliable where as sage you can always rely upon its skill so long as you aren't dead. As a unit she's good just can't rely on her canon class.

    • @RaidenKaiser
      @RaidenKaiser Рік тому

      RNG still makes this not worth it im sorry why rely on RNG with a consumable when you can instead make her more reliable as a mage and still heal? just use 1 or 2 consumable perma move increase item and she's got same movement as she would as a flyer and you can give her skills from both sigurd and miciah to even further help her out.
