@@coasters4life388 So if it were 300 feet tall with a 287 foot drop, would it be a giga? If you say no because the drop is not 300 feet, consider that Magnum, the world's first hyper, does not have a 200-foot drop. Your opinion is nonsense.
This is definitely the most fair review of Orion I’ve seen on UA-cam. It’s an actually review rather than just 10 minutes of hating on it. Most reviews I’ve seen just focus on what it does bad rather than good. I agree 100% with this review! I give it the same ranking as well, second favourite giga behind Fury 325!
Really solid review, only thing I would say I disagree on was that my rides were definitely better in the front than in the back. Other than that I really agree, it's an awesome coaster and one of the best gigas!
Love the new intro! 👍 My rankings are: 8 - Helix 7 - Turnaround 6 - airtime into brakes 5 - waveturn 4 - giant airtime hill 3 - speed hill 2 - Twisted airtime hill 1 - first drop.
The "wave turn" is just an overbanked curve or overbanked camelback. To me I love the hanging feeling and you get some great speed. The turnaround is an underrated moment to me just because of how steep the banking is and how huge the curved drop off is.
OH YEAH ITS ORION TIME BABY‼️ THROW ME OFF THE MOUNTAIN!! This coaster is my graduation gift! My senior year may have been taken away but I still got the blessing of riding Orion 16 times so far this summer‼️ it is my personal favorite coaster although it is not the best I’ve ridden if that makes sense! The best moment to me is the speed hill followed by the grand finale‼️ I LOVE ORION🛰
Rode it last weekend. I really enjoyed it. But it did feel short to me. First drop in the back was amazing. My nephew greyed out. It was smooth on my ride, not Steel Vengeance smooth, but really good none the less. I'd say it's in my top 10, but I have a meager 34 credits currently 🤣
I have rode Orion 20 times and honestly it is good but I prefer Mellium Force and I was there on Labor Day and I wish I seen you there. Also I prefer Orion in the front because of the trims.
As someone who lives in Brazil and never got to ride it, I personally LOVE your review video, because it's so detailed. It's so funny how many people are quick to drag Orion through filth even if they never rode it in the first place hahahahahaha. Also I had never though about how the soil composition could affect the smoothness of a big ride. Thanks for that amazing piece of info!
orion is honestly amazing and i agree with your ranking of elements. it doesnt seem that impressive on paper but its an ethereal and really fun experience
When I rode Orion in the front row for my first ride, I thought it was pretty solid. But when I rode it in the back at night, it was epic! I absolutely love it to bits.
I never once thought that “wave turn” was supposed to be an actual wave turn. The way the track banks into it screams no airtime. I get what Orion is going for, and I cannot wait to ride it!
Some people get a bad headache from the B&M rattle, while other people never do. If it doesn't give you a headache, you probably won't even notice the rattle. It gives me a headache, and Diamondback is one of the worst rattles I've felt. However, I did get a smooth ride on it this year, so it's temperamental.
1) The first drop 2) The Speed Hill 3) The wave turn 4) The Twisted dip. I actually love the wave turn… I try to sit in the back row far left seat, and you fly over that like you’re flying into the air above into the heavens… i just love soaring over the top. And that speed hill!? Yes! I put my feet straight out and my arms straight out and it’s like nothing else. So solid.
I preferred Orion up front for the sense of speed but it grew on me with every ride. I can't wait to see how fast this queue moves when they can load every seat.
Rode this for the first time last weekend - 6 times. Easily the best ride in the park. Orion is awesome because being so high off the ground in those exposed seats is a crazy sensation which all the elements really exploit. Personally, I love the wave turn, as you really get that feeling that you will fall out of your seat while hundreds of feet off the ground. Front gives better forces, back gives better airtime. I think the first drop in the back is definitely worth the wait for the ride, whereas the front just absolutely crushes you at the bottom of each hill. Love this ride.
I went to KI late August and I got one night ride on the second to last seat. I could’ve just been my ride but that wave turn ejected me from my seat. Personally I thought it was a great element. Great video👍
Orion met my expectations. I've ridden Orion and Millennium Force and I enjoy Orion more than Millennium Force. To me Orion is the best coaster at King Island!
My favorite B&M for years was Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America (it was my home park since I was born and raise in the Chicago area). Orion reminded me a lot of Raging Bull and a bit of Millennium Force with that drop. However, Orion takes the cake for me and it's just a blast, especially with that drop and its speed. A friend and I joked that it was as if Raging Bull and Millennium Force had a love child and out came Orion LoL. Also a great night time ride too with the lights they have shining on the coaster and the lift hill. It's awesome!
I think that Orion is a solid ride for the park. Being that Kings Island is my home park, it makes the park's lineup feel more complete. This is only the second giga coaster I have ever been on, with the first being Millennium Force, and I personally think that this coaster ever so slightly ranks above that. It is only my second favorite ride at the park (first being Mystic Timbers) but do not get me wrong, I still try to get on this ride several times when I visit. I quite like this list of the best elements on the ride as that quite lines up with mine. I would switch the brake pop and the helix out as I am not the biggest fan of that helix. I would also switch the first drop with the twisted dip. This may very well all change as I will be able to get the chance to add two more gigas on my list later this summer. Intimidator 305, and yes, Fury 325. Great video as always and also thank you for not slandering this coaster like some other people do.
Bank the "wave turn" to the right instead of the left (thus producing some airtime due to the convex curve vs concave as it currently is) and reverse the turn around so we actually get a better drop sensation out of it. Those two simple design tweaks could have been accomplished without any extra cost and I believe would have made the ride a massive contender. Still a great ride though, one of my favorites for sure.
Yup I remember when people were calling it the budget Giga which I understand a lot of people were joking about it. At least a few years ago, Kings island was one of cedar Fair's highest grossing parks in the country in terms of profit. It was one of the most profitable parks in the mid-west. They were making an enormous amount of money in merchandise and food. Cedar Fair, for a while, really cared about Kings island. That's where diamondback and banshee come in, the latter having a huge price tag and an excellent ride for an inverted.
Thanks for the review, I’m glad to see it was a positive one! I’ve been surprised at the “love-it or hate-it” response this ride has gotten. It’s either having good or bad days (which I don’t expect from a new B&M giga) or people are taking their preconceived ideas based on the stats into the ride with them. I hate to think this, but I get the feeling many of the social media personalities are parroting each other in their negative reviews and I appreciate that you came in unbiased and have given your honest opinion of the ride. Personally, I thought it was excellent, providing a good variety of forces (positives, negatives, laterals and speed). The first drop is one of the best first drops I’ve experienced, especially in the back, and factor in the decent theme, lighting package (I also hear it’s a great night ride) and smoothness (so many wimps out there complaining about “rattles” 🤷♂️), and it’s, to me, the best coaster in the park, and best giga (please can we all stop this silly argument?!) in Ohio. I love mille, but I can’t think of one element that I’d take over Orion besides the view from the lift hill. Everyone is entitled to their opinion and I will never believe there is a definitive review of any coaster out there (we all have to experience them for ourselves). It could stand to be a bit longer and I agree that non-wave turn does fall flat, but for me Orion is an excellent coaster.
orion and millenium force are so different, yet i still struggle to decide which one i like more, i rode both within two days and honestly it depends on which day of the week it is for me to rank them lol, what can i say both are excellent rides that deserve to be high in my rankings, ah the tough life of a coaster enthusiast lmfao
ive rode orion prolly 60 times now and i must say i love the speed hill i fly out of seatand stay ejected entire time! its by far my fav element! and ya i agree ive greyed out afew times in helix
Great video, in my opinion, leviathan and i305 smash this coaster. For me, out of the gigas in North America that I have ridden I would rank them: 1. Fury 2. I305 3. Leviathan 4. Orion 5. Millennium Force That’s not to say Orion isn’t a beast of a ride, haha see what I did there
Like Banshee, the outer seats are slightly more "rough" than the inner seats. But it's a great ride all the way through. Just keep your head way forward for the final brakes!
My home park This Rollercoaster grows on you. First ride was eh and I was in row 8. As I’ve rode it more, I enjoy it a lot but prefer it up front myself. I get lateral airtime on wave in front but not in back. It’s great at night (like every coaster there) Can’t wait to see how it runs with full trains
got to kings island for the first time in almost 20 years a couple weeks ago. maybe it was just running slow that day but I really didn't feel much of anything in the front or back of the train and kinda my expectations let down. ill have to try and give it another shot before the end of the season.
Yeah I definitely want to get to King Island one more time this year to get more rides on this beauty. I rode on the front and it was spectacular. The "wave" turn and the turnaround were great for me, but forgettable compared to the rest. One moment that really took me by surprise though was the camelback. On my front row ride I experienced great floater cresting the top which turned into strong flojector, getting stronger until hitting the bottom.
(For me at least) every element except the helix has airtime. The first element at the beginning had strong floater the entire time. I also found no rattle on the ride, but that could be because I rode it... a week before you 🤣.
I was a tad disappointed by my first ride in the second row. But it really started to grow on me after my front row ride. Hearing such good things about the back though I'm really sad I didn't get a chance to experience it. Just gives me a reason to head back 😁
Got a trip to Kings Island waiting for me next year! I'll also be visiting Carowinds to get a ride on Fury as well, so I can't tell you so excited I am to ride both!
I rode it for the first time on the 4th of July. I liked it! The speed hill, helix and first drop were my favorite elements. I agree that it’s a solid fit for Kings Island and I’m glad that they added it to the park.
Nice breakdown of the elements. While I haven't been on Orion, I have been on Candymonium a couple of weeks ago and it has some of the best sustained airtime I've felt on a hyper. Looking forward to your thoughts on that ride!
I love the wave turn. I only rode Orion once, front row. But I felt nothing on the wave turn, like literally nothing. Like I was completely weightless. With the outer space theme I kind of thought that was what B&M intended. I thought it was brilliant...
Most modern Vekoma coasters like Lech Coaster (at Legendia) might have the second quietest lift hill (no clanking, but there might be some noise at the beginning that might be coming from the lift motor)
Great video. I've had 10 rides over 2 visits, 4 in row 8 and 2 in row 1, with 4 other random row rides. Especially given that the trains are, at most, half full - therefore much lighter than they eventually will be, it met or slightly exceeded my expectations. Leviathan is my "home" Giga, being from Buffalo NY, and I say Orion is slightly better. Favorite element - The first drop Least favorite - The camelback hill. In a park with 2 amazing camelbacks on Diamondback, this one just doesn't stack up. Overall it's my 3rd favorite Giga behind Millennium and Fury, above Leviathan and I-305. Great ride overall, fun theming and outstanding operations, nearly Fury level.
Its the only giga I've ridden, but I absolutely loved it. The helix is the only element I've ever grayed out on. I look forward to doing that many more times, kings island was a treat for this Minnesotan in a pandemic. Cant wait to use my platinum pass on more parks next year (hopefully including my own home park ValleyFair!)
Although I've never ridden any B&M hyper (including the junior ones; like the 2 Goliaths or senior like the Gigas; Leviathan, Fury and Orion) Orion has the steepest drop of them at 85 degrees and doesn't pull out too fast like Intimidator 305. (Millennium Force's drop is still pretty sweet though) but the drop of Orion in the back kooks on par with Fury 325, possibly better considering that although Orion's drop is 20' less it's still 4 degrees steeper. But the contour of the drop is unbeatable. Looks like a back seat ride'd feel like her... heaven.
Kings island is my homepark, and has been my whole life. I like Orion. It's a fun ride, but air time isn't my favorite thing, nor is speed my focus on the ride. I think I would have enjoyed a more unique coaster here, like a dive, wing, or anything else, since it is extremely similar to diamondback. I honestly just think that Orion is just really pretty to look at while riding and gives great views.
I got 6 rides on it the weekend before Labor Day. 1 in the front, 1 in row 6, and 4 times in the back. I pretty much agree with your review. I would flip #2 and #3 as I think the Speed Hill is the 2nd best element.
I rode Orion for the first time yesterday that first drop was by far the greatest element, but I really like the turn around. The wave turn could have been better if it was steeper it just glides through that element too much. Overall it exceeded my expectations.
My rankings 1: the speed hill 2: the first drop 3: the wave hill 4: the twisted hill before the brake run 5: the camel back 6: the helix 7: the pop into the brake run 8: the turn around
Well, B&M classifies it as a hyper, as they do for Fury and Leviathan. If that's what someone is going by, then I get it. But if someone calls it a hyper only because the height isn't 300, then I'm with you.
@@OklahomaCoasterFan Right, but that's just the B&M product name, not a coaster classification. Sorta' like how Intamin calls their hypers "megacoasters." The reverse logic also applies, as La Ronde's Goliath is called a hyper by B&M but has a height and drop less than 200 feet, meaning that it isn't a true hypercoaster. I doubt anyone who calls Orion a hyper also wants to call Goliath a hyper due to its height.
The only big rides I’ve been on are diamond back and Orion, and I call those the smoothest brides EVER. It’ll be interesting when I ride another one that is considered a lot smoother.
2 months after my rides, and I'm now thinking that I like Orion more than Fury. My rides in the front were far stronger than what you got. The wave turn and turn-around are best experienced on an edge seat, right edge for the wave turn, left edge for the turn-around. Both are better in the front. The entry into the brakes was far stronger in the front for me. I do like a sense of constant speed like on Fury, but I prefer the way Intamin does speed. I appreciate that Orion is always doing something and has different elements. That's what makes me feel that it has a far better layout than Fury or Millie.
A waveturn is outerbanked in my opinion 😅 Orion's turn is the opposite. So many people got disappointed when riding it and finding no airtime on the turn, but, like, why would there be airtime? It isn't outerbanked 😂 If you ask me, it never was a wave turn. It was just a tall turn
I rode Orion last month for my first visit ever to the park. I have to say that I was impressed, but Mystic Timbers was my favorite. Maybe Orion would have been if I waited the 2 hours for a night ride. My fault when I nearly passed out from going 18 hours without food.
This is one coaster you want to ride in the front as opposed to the back m8. 1. Speed hill 2. Drop 3. Twist dip 4. Pop into breaks 5. Camelback 6. Helix 7. Wave turn 8. Turn around Also I don't get the h8 on the wave turn, if you lean forward at all in your seat your body flies to the right to stay upright as the car takes the turn sideways.
I definitely agree that it was not as smooth as I expected for a brand new coaster. I went in July when they had just opened for the season. Millennium Force is still a much better coaster.
I haven’t been on the ride yet, but it sounds great! I plan on going to Kings Island during October and hopefully getting some rides in. Too bad I have a fear of heights and will probably freak out riding it!
Bruh Sound effect 2 I305 looses to Fury because of the restrains and Leviathan is ranked above Millennium because Leviathan exceeded my expectations more than Millennium
Orion is definitely the best themed ride Cedar Fair has produced in my opinion (note: I’ve never had the chance to ride Copperhead Strike). I loved all of the little references to old rides and manufacturers in the queue and they blended the space theme in perfectly with Flight of Fear
My own thoughts are I was left underwhelmed. I would love for this ride to be in my home park of SFOT as it would be a star attraction in Texas. However, in Ohio where roller coasters should just be placed on the state flag, I was satisified; but not blown away by my ride. It did what it should do, I had fun, I bought a souvenir, and I told people about it. But, I left the ride feeling there was so much there that wasn't used. I plan trips to Ohio every year where I spend at least 2 days at CP and 1 at KI. I was really hoping this ride would make me go to KI for 2 and flip around to CP for 1, it just didn't do it. If I live near Mason, I'm thrilled this is in my backyard. 1200 miles away in Texas, it's still CP and Millennium Force for me. Side note: The Sonder Brewery down the road made a "Giga Coaster" beer with themed cans and it was awesome!
I think it's great. It's hard to call anything rough after riding The Beast and Son of Beast many, many times. In comparison, this thing is like BUTTAH
If Apollo’s Chariot counts as a hyper because of the 200 foot drop then Orion counts as a Giga

orion and millenium force are so different, yet i still struggle to decide which one i like more, i rode both within two days and honestly it depends on which day of the week it is for me to rank them lol, what can i say both are excellent rides that deserve to be high in my rankings, ah the tough life of a coaster enthusiast lmfao
ive rode orion prolly 60 times now and i must say i love the speed hill i fly out of seatand stay ejected entire time! its by far my fav element! and ya i agree ive greyed out afew times in helix
I don’t know if that’s a new intro, but if it is, I LOVE IT
Just a custom intro for this video
Yeah I figured
But it’s awesome
Great video, in my opinion, leviathan and i305 smash this coaster. For me, out of the gigas in North America that I have ridden I would rank them:
1. Fury
2. I305
3. Leviathan
4. Orion
5. Millennium Force
That’s not to say Orion isn’t a beast of a ride, haha see what I did there
I think since Ki Is a terrain park. The soil is way softer than parks like Canada’s Wonderland so yuh
Like Banshee, the outer seats are slightly more "rough" than the inner seats. But it's a great ride all the way through. Just keep your head way forward for the final brakes!
Me: I rode my first giga coaster yeeee
People: Orion isn’t a giga coaster
Me: 👁💧👄💧👁
My home park
This Rollercoaster grows on you.
First ride was eh and I was in row 8.
As I’ve rode it more, I enjoy it a lot but prefer it up front myself. I get lateral airtime on wave in front but not in back.
It’s great at night (like every coaster there)
Can’t wait to see how it runs with full trains
Great video, I went in July. I rode in the front with rain. It hurt, but added to the experience😁
got to kings island for the first time in almost 20 years a couple weeks ago. maybe it was just running slow that day but I really didn't feel much of anything in the front or back of the train and kinda my expectations let down. ill have to try and give it another shot before the end of the season.
Hi bro I love your channel
(For me at least) every element except the helix has airtime. The first element at the beginning had strong floater the entire time. I also found no rattle on the ride, but that could be because I rode it... a week before you 🤣.
Speed machine giga comparison and not mention I-305 ?! 🤯
Great vid
This guy is the truth with his videos. Thanks for the content and great insight! You are doing great work for the coaster community
just got 4 rides on Orion yesterday and I totally agree with these rankings! The turn before the brake run is best in the right side outside seat!
I think I’ll love it whenever I get around to it. I hope Diamondback didn’t drop in your rankings- that’s currently my #1 as of my 2018 rides.
It did a bit but only because another ride shot up in my ranks
Airtime Thrills woooahhh did voyage get all the way up there!? dang. I gotta get to holiwood nights at some point.
I really like the front especially at night with its beautiful lighting package.
Hard to believe it all started with me. It’s been almost 30 years since my manufacturer’s kick off the ground, and they’ve come a long way.
Favorite element - The first drop
Least favorite - The camelback hill. In a park with 2 amazing camelbacks on Diamondback, this one just doesn't stack up.
Overall it's my 3rd favorite Giga behind Millennium and Fury, above Leviathan and I-305. Great ride overall, fun theming and outstanding operations, nearly Fury level.
thank you for the updated intro.. it was needed and you did your thing.. keep grinding bro
I would flip #2 and #3 as I think the Speed Hill is the 2nd best element.
i have ridden fury too and i don’t get why people hate on it so much. it’s not as good as fury but i still love it.
Some enthusiasts: this is a terrible ride!
The GP: I JUST GOT OF THE WORLDS TALLEST COASTER AND IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!!
Thats why I prefer gp over enthusiasts, including me. We are a bit spoiled :/
Yeah but some GP spend hundreds on video games and other useless things. We also travel loads. But yeah, the GP r so funny.
@@gerbenschenk1637 exactly net everyone has the time or money to travel to carowinds or other parks it’s extremely expensive
didnt they name the helix "orion's belt" ?
its a nice name btw love it
That is a cool term for it
I rode Orion for the first time yesterday that first drop was by far the greatest element, but I really like the turn around. The wave turn could have been better if it was steeper it just glides through that element too much. Overall it exceeded my expectations.
My rankings
1: the speed hill
2: the first drop
3: the wave hill
4: the twisted hill before the brake run
5: the camel back
6: the helix
7: the pop into the brake run
8: the turn around
I’ve ridden Orion 26 times and I didn’t expect it to be so good
I mean technically it's both a giga and a hyper. It's a giga because of the 300 foot drop, but the name given to the coaster model by B&M is Hyper.
Saying that Orion isn't a giga is really ridiculous. Imagine criticizing a park/manufacturer for efficient use of terrain.
Lol the view form the top of that hill says it all you really cant even see the bottom it felt bigger than Millennium Force did
The only big rides I’ve been on are diamond back and Orion, and I call those the smoothest brides EVER. It’ll be interesting when I ride another one that is considered a lot smoother.
With KI island as my home park I think I must have gotten used to the “roughness” because I never feel it when riding
A waveturn is outerbanked in my opinion 😅
Orion's turn is the opposite. So many people got disappointed when riding it and finding no airtime on the turn, but, like, why would there be airtime? It isn't outerbanked 😂
If you ask me, it never was a wave turn. It was just a tall turn
Agreed. B&M Giga drops are the bee’s knees.
Considering your new thoughts on skyrush, new covid procedures and candymonium could you do a remake of your hershey park review?
Ill be talking about Candymonium and skyrush but not about the park as a whole this time
Don’t know what to comment so I’m just gonna say good quality videos keep it up man!
I rode Orion last month for my first visit ever to the park. I have to say that I was impressed, but Mystic Timbers was my favorite. Maybe Orion would have been if I waited the 2 hours for a night ride. My fault when I nearly passed out from going 18 hours without food.
Hi bro I love your channel
This is one coaster you want to ride in the front as opposed to the back m8.
1. Speed hill
2. Drop
3. Twist dip
4. Pop into breaks
5. Camelback
6. Helix
7. Wave turn
8. Turn around
Also I don't get the h8 on the wave turn, if you lean forward at all in your seat your body flies to the right to stay upright as the car takes the turn sideways.
Front is cool for wind and visuals but i was disappointed by the forces
I definitely agree that it was not as smooth as I expected for a brand new coaster. I went in July when they had just opened for the season. Millennium Force is still a much better coaster.
I haven’t been on the ride yet, but it sounds great! I plan on going to Kings Island during October and hopefully getting some rides in. Too bad I have a fear of heights and will probably freak out riding it!
@Airtime Thrills when I went on Orion, I got no trims and I wondered why, and when I got off I saw I was the only person on the train. Lol.
Those aerial shots really show how big this coaster is
New intro love it💙💙
Wow I loved that intro! Looked amazing and threw in some jokes
I did not get a chance to go to my home park of KI this year, but I do look forward to going next season...hopefully.
I’ve been on all North American gigas
1: Fury 325
2: Intimidator 305
3: Orion
4: Leviathan
5: Millennium Force
I’d swap Millie and Levi, and swap I305 and Fury, but it really comes down to preference
Bruh Sound effect 2 I305 looses to Fury because of the restrains and Leviathan is ranked above Millennium because Leviathan exceeded my expectations more than Millennium
I-305 is good if you like intensity but for the majority of the gp they do not like the ride it's too Intense for the average person..
BuckNutty Yea I enjoy intensity but that trim 3/4 of the way really kills the ending of I305 however it’s still my number 3 overall
@@SillyPlushStudios Ya trims are lame I understand why they have them but still 🥱
Orion is definitely the best themed ride Cedar Fair has produced in my opinion (note: I’ve never had the chance to ride Copperhead Strike).
How was Kings Island this year? Also, are you going to make a video about your experience at Kings Island?
Video idea: building your dream coaster lineup, while also trying to make it well-rounded
I think it's great. It's hard to call anything rough after riding The Beast and Son of Beast many, many times. In comparison, this thing is like BUTTAH
I think the speed hill is awesome!

@@coasters4life388 nice! thanks from both QoasterMaster and India's #1 Coaster Enthusiast!
Goliath at Six Flags Great America has good airtime piping into the breaks.
I got very lucky and didn’t have the trim hit on the camelback. The ejector was insane
