Here's the one I'm building: i7-4790K GTX 970 4GB 32GB DDR3 1866Mhz RAM Asus Z97-A 2x 500GB SSDs I have all this, still deciding on/need to buy cooler, psu, case, probably a 1TB HDD or two. I'm thinking Fractal Define R5 case, Noctua NH-D14 cooler, and Thermalcore 750W psu. This will be the first computer I've built, having been a graphic designer on Macs for years, only recently getting into motion design, 3D and VFX on Windows. These videos are great for figuring it out, plus I'll have some help. Can't wait to see how AE and Element fly on this...
Surfaced Studio Thanx! Actually built it a couple weekends ago - came off without a hitch. I did get the case and cooler and psu I listed and everything worked. I realized that I should've installed the mobo in the case before I put the cpu and fan in, because that noctua fan is SO huge, I could barely reach the top left screws, but all in all it all turned out well. Thanks for the visuals, stuff like this really helps
on the 24 pin ATX connector you made a mistake. there are small plastic thingies on the end on the 20 pin connector, for holding down the 4 pin part, which doesn't have a locking mechanism if its own. so you have to plug in the 4 pin part first, and then the 20 pin part.
:)) wow, OK, thanks! I observed the motherboard's RAM usage, during a Gaussian-blur motion tracking in Premiere. If I don't stop the motion tracking, than I run out of RAM (8GB) in just a few seconds. Maybe is trying to decompress the entire video into RAM.
You know the mess with the speaker /powerswitch /HD-led connectors, that's what the little help connector you found in the motherboard case are used for :-)
Hello! Thank you for this video! It did explain me some things. I am upgrading my system for better performance and I have some questions regarding the GPU (graphics card unit). I bought a ASUS GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 but can request to change to ASUS GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5 for more or less 50 euros more. If I go for the ASUS GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5 I also need to upgrade the PSU (Power supply unit) once it is more power demanding. Besides, the ASUS GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5 is the adobe premiere approved graphics card list while the ASUS GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 isn't. My questions are: 1) how does the GPU affects the editing process and the export process? 2) will I notice a big difference between the ASUS GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 and the ASUS GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5? My system is not that powerful. Here are the specs: ASUS Essentio CG8250 CPU Intel® Core™ i5-2300 Processor (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz) Quad Core 16Gb RAM (4x 4GB 1333MHz DDR3) 1 x SSD 240GB for Operating system 1X SSD 120GB for project media & cache Removable HDDs 7200rpm for media and project storage. Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit Premiere CC Last question: Regarding the current specs of my computer will it make any a significant difference to upgrade the CPU to an i7? Thanks in advance
Thanks for the video mate! Just in time too, gonna buy my parts today..! One question though...would there be much of a difference between the EVGA GeForce GTX 770 2GB (Dual Superclocked ACX) and the EVGA GeForce GTX 770 4GB (Dual Classified ACX)..?
RichoKid98 In terms of video editing and After Effects I doubt you'd notice a difference. Neither Premiere Pro nor After Effects make much use of RAM on your graphics card. It's mainly beneficial if you want to play video games at ridiculous resolutions and thus need the RAM for textures to be kept in memory. Just my opinion though :)
Thanks for the video. I am thinking of transitioning from being a primarily mac user. I'm a novice to building my own computer. I'm looking to transition to PC for budget and expansion capability. I use Adobe Suite primarily for Animation, Video and Sound Editing. Wondering what you might suggest for the fastest reliable semi-professional experience at around 2k which would include high res monitors.
+Gary H Hi Gary, it's always a bit hard and I'm not really up to speed with the latest components (I only catch up when I need to build a new PC for myself). I am very happy with my machine and would certainly suggest to get 16GB of RAM (especially if you want to work with resolutions beyond 1080p) and the SSDs are making a HUGE difference. Other than that you may have to mix and match to find something that fits your budget :)
A little piece of advice....only the INSIDE of the anti-static bag is actually anti-static....the outside isn't....so next time when you will build a PC you'll know. working on the MOBO like you did could potentially fry it!
+Bogdan Stana I read up a bit, seems it only ever works as long as the bag is closed. Once opened, all bets are off. Maybe I've been lucky so far. Appreciate the feedback :)
More threads, more threads.. more threads!!! That is where Adobe excels. It is something of a matchup between CPU and GPU. More cores- cpu, helps more lanes available for additional GPUs. A 6-8 core Cpu will process Vid faster, additional x16 GPUs will accelerate the effects. There are rendering programs (third party) that utilize GPU much better than Adobe (not including Premier Pro but including after effects- effects). Eventually, one can presume 3rd party plugs/rendering will be developed for After effects. One can mix layers already using different modeling programs that use GPU acceleration. Octane rendering is supposedly developing a render plug for Ae. While Ae is designed for Vid, modeling is usually also part of most work streams (then inserted into Ae), so More Vid cards, more x16 lanes. I suggest if modeling is part of the work flow, to concern oneself about this aspect of 'lanes' available because most modeling programs can render completly on GPUs with plugins. I believe the 4790 limits to 28 lanes, so two cards (vid) at 16X fills up the traffic lanes. A third is possible with 5900 series cpu chip to still get all16x (x3) card lanes filled in processing.
Thanks for the redirect, good info. Did some research and that system would cost around £1200 in the UK (amazon). Think I need to upgrade my graphics card. My GT430 works pretty good for PS, LR and AE but Prem Pro has a huge problem with it in that it won't even load up all the way, Thanks for the vid though, good stuff.
Thank you tobias for this awesome video .. One question : Why didn't you pick any after market cooler for your CPU as it will be crucial for thermal increases which you'll face for using 100% of CPU resources ?
Muhammad Kamal Hi, glad you liked it. Unless I'm exporting a video or rendering a 3D scene, my CPU will not at all be maxed out at 100%. I have plenty of space and ventilation in my case, there is no need for super fancy cooling system - that's really more if you want to massively overclock your system
any update on this upgrade? i'm finally getting around to a custom build and want to ensure its of good standard ;) any help would be very helpful. Joz!
Did a follow up video a few months back ua-cam.com/video/CS2ylk4VGYs/v-deo.html Very happy with my computer, haven't had any issues and it's been a year and a half now. Happy with everything I bought back then still :)
The case you got is quite overkill. A carbide 300r would do the job. You could have gotten an aio water cooler, probably a Cosair h60 with that extra money. The stock cooler is just bad.
surfacedstudio2 It's not only about overclocking. It's about silence. I personally want my build to be near silent when idle as well as when under heavy load.
Thanks for the video Tobias it was tremendously helpful.... quick questiin though....if u had 2 ssd drives, 4 hdd drives and an optical drive how did u get them all hooked up if u only had 6 sata headers?
Justin Kuhn Well you wouldn't be able to XD I don't have my optical drive connected - I got a USB3 optical drive that I use. Sometimes you can find additional SATA connectors on the motherboard, but 6 is actually quite a lot
You built a nice and powerful gaming computer, but definitely not the AE/PrP postproduction workstation for serious work. I don't know if the reason was the budget limit or whatever, but most of components you used are just overpriced fancy look toys stuff for impress friends and make a smile of someone who knows what "best machine for AE" looks. For your next best machine, there are a few tips: - forget about sexy look gaming motherboards by Asus and etc. Maximum RAM up to 32GB is not enough for any serious work. For your purpose, you need wide bus server MB. Vendor choose is simple: SUPERMICRO or TYAN. I preffer the first of them. - CPU: I7 is less expensive option, but you should focus on XEON family. The performance of XEON processor with similiar parametres to Ix family is incomparable. Of course, best option is use multi cpu motherboard with 2x Xeon CPU. - RAM: For after effects works in FullHD/2K/4K era is 64 GB uncofortable minimum. There's nothing like "enough memory" in postproduction work. That is one of reasons to use the server platform MB. Check how much ram you can install on your Asus "beast" (32GB) and what is maximum of Supermicro MBs (192 GB - 3 TB) - GPU. Nvidia, because of CUDA of course. But CUDA computig only 3D parts of your job, rest of it is on CPU. Second thing, for fully using of GPU capability you need big amout of VRAM. So, if you dont have 2K$ for 64GB Quadro card, its better to save money on some higher mid-range GeForce card (CUDA requires 1GB minimum but its not very usable) and invest to more powerfull CPU. The rest of configuration is not so importnant, except use of SSD drives of course. The next part of story is about expansion cards, devices and reference display - for work in AE/PREMIERE you dont need profi displays from Eizo, but you definitely need the reference display on the preview output. But it is more about TV industry techs than computer parts. Maybe im sound like a "smart ass", but you can be sure I just want to help you. All of this is my opinion based on 15 years of experiece in A/V production game.
Your reply is helpful, but I'm curious about all the components. Would you be willing to post links for the parts you mentioned, so I can take a look for myself?
Lukas Lipajev The best cpu for ae/pr is i7. Xeon/dual xeon have nothing helpful for ae/pr, And,Geforce is better than Quadro for ae/pr. For example: Xeon+Quadro=5000$=100% performance i7 + Geforce=2000$=120% performance I know, the truth is hard to accept. But it' here always. So,if you use ae or pr,don't prece for xeon and quadro.
can u prefer any other cabinates.. how are cooler master cabinates ?? and which cooler master cabinate would be good with the same configuration u showed...
prtysh nth The one I have is pretty good. Any other case will work as long as it fits the components you want to stick into it and it has appropriate cooling for your setup
Hi, sir..Thank u for the great video. I have a small question, I think u r using the Vertex SSD to install windows. Which drive i can use to install the Adobe Apps.. i mean AE and Pr.. SSD or WD HD.. to work fast?
My specs:GPU: GTX 1060 (I play quite a lot of games)RAM: 8GB (Well, actually 16, but 8GB stopped working when I installed my graphics card)CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 Processor (I KNOW, I KNOW. It's not that good, but hey, videos render fine in Pr)Sound Card: Realtek High Definition AudioMotherBoard: no idea...
Hello, I can use an AMD Radeon 7950 in After Effects? Although she did not have CUDA has a good bit rate. My question is between it and the GTX 750 TI. What do you recommend?
Hi there, just wondering what your thoughts on ddr4? If you did use it what would you use for Motherboard? Also, would you consider Intel Core i7 5820K? Intel Core i7 5930K?
+Michael Kendall Here's more info on SATA: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA You can use SATA 3 drives too, but the speed will be limited to SATA 2 as that's all your MB supports
It's a pretty old setup, you can likely get something much better for the money by now. Here's a rundown of the main components I got: www.surfacedstudio.com/blog/best-computer-for-after-effects
I figure this is a good place to ask, I am starting to do a lot of video editing and capture using Adobe and Camtasia Studio 8. While doing the video capture I am also running virtual machines and doing heavy development. This is mainly for creating online courses for sites like Udemy.com. I am also going to be running with a laptop for this which may sound odd, but the build I am ordering should more than handle the task. Her is what I am getting: 17.3 laptop, Core i7 4790k unlocked desktop processor at 4.0GHz, 32GB 1833MHz DDR3 memory, Boot drive 512GB SSD Drive, 2 x 1TB 7200RPM storage drives (Not in Raid), Nvidia GTX980m w/ 8GB DDR5. I feel this build should give me everything I Need. This build will run me about $3000. Do you find any issue with this build for video editing? Nothing effects heavy, mainly just editing video and audio for my courses.
This is what im planning to get. But i still cant decide whether i should overclock it or not?? Should i overclock for better single threaded performance? I've read so many threads and i still cannot decide. Stability Vs Faster Render I7-6800k ( 6 cores, 12 threads) 3.4 GHZ 64GB ram+ ( Or even 96GB ram) 6TB HDD+ GTX 1070 = $3,000 AUD rip Primary uses would be AE, Nuke, Reaflow, 3dsmax, fumefx, 3dsmax, MARI, zbrush. Pretty much everything. Any suggestions? thanks
nicolás silva Hi Nicolas. I think I'm still a gamer at heart. I know that the Quadro graphics cards are optimised for CAD operations and the like, but they tend to also cost significantly more than the equivalently powered Geforce cards. I didn't really feel it necessary as most of my work is within Premiere Pro and After Effects which don't really use much GPU (other than the CUDA functionality) to begin with. If you're big on CAD/C4D/3dsMax you might want to consider a Quadro instead :)
What lab tops can actually use after effects? The reason why I am asking us because I am saying for a new lab top, except I would really like a computer that works more within my means.
Depends on how you define 'use'. As long as you hit the minimum requirements for After Effects you can 'use' whatever you want. Then it's just a sliding scale upwards of how much money you want to spend and how fast you want After Effects to run :)
Why do you need to install softwares that's like 100s and 100s of Gigs? Thought you only gonna install that on the SSDs and SSds like 480GB. I usually try to keep as much space as i can on that because the After Effects and Premiere Pro uses the main drive by default for cache etc, which speeds up render time when placed on SSD.
I use a lot of media for video and music work, I split my programs and my data across the two SSDs so programs run of one and all the streaming of media / caching happens on the other. Feel free to configure it anyway it makes sense to you :)
If given the choice to go with the i7-5930k would you go that route instead? I keep reading more cores is better for render times? Im Using AE,Element 3d, Maya, Nuke . Thanks for the reply Anybody :O)
That's very good setup . But I have question why you didn't shift to Apple Product ? iMac or Mac Pro as you are professional filmmaker and you need very fast speed and some feature that from what I read that the PC even when it's high performance still there is some week in it ..
Hi, I'm personally not a big fan of Apple's products for professional film making and VFX. Apple has steered more and more into the "let's keep it simple" direction and removing useful (advanced) features out of their leading software to make it 'easier'. So Final Cut X and Motion didn't win me over. I've used Premiere and After Effects on the Mac for a while, but integration didn't feel as seamless as on the PC and so I never switched over. The idea that 'Mac is faster' is a bit silly. It all depends on the components you have in the machine not on the brand name.
A lot of people have this idea that "I want to do video so I should use Apple" because Apple is still associated with the 'hip' and 'sleek' design-focussed branding. In the end it just comes down to software and hardware, whether it's made by Apple, Intel or MacDonalds doesn't really matter
Surfaced Studio you are wrong its not just about components, windows can freeze, update things pops up, by time slows down etc. many shit issues, apple works smooth with no pain in ass ,that's why some people prefer apple not because brand because quality.
As someone who has used both I believe it comes down to a) how you manage your system and b) your personal preferences. Both Premiere Pro and After Effects (which I use) did not work very well on Mac OS, they didn't scale well and it just didn't integrate as well into the rest of my workflow. I have no problem maintaining a properly functioning Windows system (I work in IT) so I prefer using that :)
my pc is asus 6th gen i3 8gb ddr4 ram 500 hdd intel hd 530 slow in rendering and hangs when i use AI PS and after effect together suggest me the correct size of graphics card and ram
The OS shouldn't really matter. Personally I think Win 10 runs smoother, but unless you run some side by side comparisons I don't think you'd notice the difference. Check out my updated video on the topic here: ua-cam.com/video/nvZORXtbRng/v-deo.html
hello there I was working with indesign and now "OMG" i have getting these heavy projects like 4000 products or 8000 products for catalogs. I'm using | i5@4th generation | 16ddr3 | no graphic card | hdd 5200 rpm | i know its a quite out dated pc but untill i know which is best to handle these heavy loads of graphics i don't want to waste my money. So , if you can help me that what kind of machine (desktop) i use to mange such a heavy load graphics in indesign. would be really helpfull for anyone who is facing this kind of problem, really looking forward to your answer cheers
Really depends on your spec and the files you are working with. You can use Proxies (I have a tutorial for that on my main channel) while working in AE to make things go a bit faster
how much did it cost you all for the assembly? Atx Case, Motherboard, I7 Processor, RAM's, Graphics Card, Power Supply, 250GB SSD and the fire-wire for the MIDI.? I need the price because I am looking to assemble one for myself.
Eskinder For the pricing of the individual parts you're best off to go to your local computer dealer - prices vary wildly from country to country and store to store. Assembly was free cause I did it myself ;)
I wasn´t satisfied with the performance of my PC on After Effects, it´s an i7 2600k overclocked to 5Ghz, watercooler, 16Gb ram, 2 SSDs, and several 3Tb HDs, Asus GTX 970 video card. I thought I could run After Effects and make a preview of complex projects almost in realtime, but now I see it´s very very far having a computer to run After Effects in realtime, or instantaneously render any preview. I´m looking for an i7 5960x which has 16 cores, but I don´t thinl it will make it !
+Dihelson Mendonca I feel like I have seen builds worst than yours run AE smooth. Hard to believe you are having problems... You must have the most complex projects in AE lol. You should go back to AE CC 2014 - it runs better than 2015. AE isnt a program that utilizes multi cores as much as 3d programs (C4D/3DSMAX/MAYA) and its highly more reliable on CPU Speed.
+Dihelson Mendonca U have the wrong machine for complex composting in aftereffects and the second one u suggesting is also. Its consumer hardware not capable of it. If you want a good system go for a workstation hp-z800 series. There high end industrial powerhouses designed for this line of work. Real-time preview and rendering of complex composeting is almost impossible unless you spend 160000 dollar on an computer. I have a z800 24 core, 96 gig ram, quadro 6000, tesla c2075 2x 500 gig ssd pure for media and disc cache and still no realtime previews and rendering. But a lot faster than most computers.
+Rivar X Hi, thank you. I am not sure how to judge this unless I had both and could run some comparison. Faster CPU will always help, but it's hard to quantify 'how much' exactly it will help (it also depends on more than just the CPU)
Question! I'm using a windows 7, Ratin 5.9, Processor: Intel(R) Core (TM) i5 CPU 750 @2.67GHz 2.66GHz. RAM: 4.00 GB, System 64-bit Operating System. I have a problem when I do a Premiere Movie. When it's time to export the movie my computer shuts down! This doesn't happen when I do a video on photoshop (motion). What do I need to prevent this from happening? More Ram?? Better video card??? Please advise!!!! Thanks... Manny
hi there, why didnt you install ddr4 system? I want to build new system but I cannot decide ddr3 or ddr4. the cost difference will be about 200$, which is ok for me
+OneHDNinja ,,, well, x99 ddr4 motherboards support 64 gb ram. z97 ddr3 supports only 32 ram. for video editing and video graphics production the system needs more and more ram, thats why I will go for ddr4 system. plus, x99 supports M.2 connections for SSD storage.
+FLUFilm Prodüksiyon if budget is not a problem, then you might wanna look at these cpu for faster processing/rendering www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
Hello, so what it the best computer considering the budget now in 2017?? Just to be enough not to be so good that make pro videos just 10 or 5 min video...Thank you in advance i have searched already but it looks complicated with so many options
Your best option is to go to the official requirements page: helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/system-requirements.html and purchase something within your budget that satisfies it. Personally, I'd recommend getting at least 8 (if not 16GB) of RAM
Hi Tobias, i have the gtx 970 and just fighured out how to enable gpu rendering in premiere and ae. But it takes around 3 mins for a 15sec clip at FullHD. Is that normal? I have 8gb of ram and decided that ae and prem. are allowed to use 6gb. The ram-preview is working only 20sec aswell. I have cs6 on both programs How can i speed up my renderingtime ?? Yours sincerly Nicklas P.s.: Sry for my bad english I'm from Germany
TheBalooStudio Well, TI stands for Titanium, supposedly runs cooler than the non TI versions. I've never owned a TI and none of the reviews or tests I saw indicated that it justified the price difference between the models.
hi now im using 500gb hard drive for video editing but i desite to buy new 4tb wd hard disk for my editing works plz help to chose better color in wd hard drive
Question! I'm looking to get a computer to run AE and other programs smoothly and my friends all recommended getting a tower and hardware from a website called Newegg. Thing is, everything on that site looks like gaming components. I don't really do any gaming so would those parts work for editing and graphic design the same?
The Great MC As long as you get the core components that make a good pc you're good either way. You can skip all the SLI / CrossFire stuff for video work, but all the other components are still good. You'd likely want a video card with strong CUDA capabilities as more video editing tools can leverage that
The Great MC Plus even though they're for gaming, they're pretty powerful for editing and VFX too. I have a gaming rig but most of the time I do my editing on there.
millicent1990 The motherboard has one CPU socket which can fit a number of CPU models. Wikipedia has tables on the particular socket page that shows which CPU's will work with it.
Bought it at a local computer store. It's been so long ago the price I paid is likely not going to be of much use any more - I reckon it'd be much cheaper now :)
Would yo recommend getting a better cooler for the I7? I have the same one as you and when I render I can hear the fan is a little loud and I am afraid that when I render for a longer time it might not be so good.....also I have 16 GB of ram
Igor Bajic I think additional cooling is only really required if you want to overclock your CPU. As long as you have a case with adequate cooling, the standard CPU cooler will be fine. I've rendered things over hours overnight and my CPU is fine
Well I did some tests with the i7s stock cooler, and the average temp for the CPU was about 98 degrees, and that is a lot, multiple programs showed almost the same result, so I got a big CPU cooler and now the average CPU temp is about 60 degrees over hours of rendering, i do not overclock ever :D
My current system i5 2500,6gb ram ddr3 1330,xfx hd5870 1gddr5 renders 4-5min vdeos at 720-1080 30-60fps for 3h. I'm thinking to get a work station Dell Precision T5500 with Intel Xeon Quad-Core X5687 12gb ram ddr3 and amd firepro v5900 will it be faster???
One question I have a tight budget, so I have selected two GPU, GTX 760 and GTX 960, what is actually the bus memory difference anyway, 256bit vs 128bit. I have selected i5 4440 (tight budget so). Is it good enough for AE & the plugins to work on. Also 3D, Modelling & Editing? My Specs: MSI NVIDIA GTX 970 2GB/ASUS NVIDIA GTX 760 550 Watt SMPS Intel i5 4440 MSI Z97 PC Mate Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz
+Minnaz Summers Hi, sounds sufficient to me. I think the key question remains what you consider 'good enough'? No matter what PC you purchase, once you get into very complex effects in AE, use heavy plugins or get into 3D modelling with millions of polygons and physics simulation - no single PC will be able to handle that smoothly. I think I have a kick ass PC, but even that slows down when I work in AE or 3dsMax. That's just a fact of life (at this point of technology). Your computer should certainly be enough for a decent workflow, but whether it is "good enough" depends on what you intend to do and how far you want to push it
+surfacedstudio2 Thank you very much. I am just starting with all this stuff, a rookie to say. I haven't never configured a PC but this is going to be my 1st PC so.
For a first PC it'll do fine :) I always find that more RAM helps (I got 16GB) but it's not essential. See how you go first, then you can always make different decisions on PC number 2 - or upgrade the one you have
Fortunately (and potentially surprisingly) never fried anything in all my years of building PCs since the 90's :) There is always a slight risk, but if you avoid rubbing the carpet like a madman and take some precautions it's usually fine - or maybe I'm just super lucky :D
The brand doesn't matter, just make sure it has the same focus as the machine I built - strong CPU, lots of RAM (I would recommend at least 8GB), dedicated graphics card and preferably an SSD
Do I really need that much RAM like 16GB? Because when I rendering the task manager shows that only no more than 50% of the RAM has been used and I only have 8GB. I'm not sure if I should upgrade it but I do feel the rendering process is kinda slow.
'Need' depends. If you, like me, run multiple programs simultaneously and don't want AE or PP to slow down to a crawl, more is better. Won't help (too much) with rendering speed though as that's mainly CPU
My specs: i5-4670k Corsair Vengeance 8gb 1600mhz (2x4) (planning to upgrade to 4x4 16gb) Gigabyte 750 ti 2gb Z87-HD3 Is this ok for a bit of editing in Premiere and some stuff in after effects? i think i need some more ram because whenever i do stuff in Premiere or After Effects, it says low on memory... so im getting 16gb i also need one more monitor....
how long it is going to take when u render for final output at 1920x1080 and 30fps in 15sec or 30sec duration? please BOLD the answer? Thanks surafcedstudio2
signager bzomie If I render a fully black video without anything in it that probably only takes a few seconds. If I stick 100+ layers, 3D and other fancy effects in it it could take hours. It really depends on how much calculations you are throwing at your machine within the AE/Premiere Projects
I just bought a new GPU (ASUS GTX 750 ti). When I go into AE folders and make it to support, Im getting an shader error before opening. Inside AE it says that my GPU is supported, but then I cant choose the Ray - traced 3D renderer in composition settings. Any help? :(
Is 30gb of ram too much for ae? I'm trying to find a good computer to buy. I make 3D layouts using cinema and ae all the time but there are problems that piss me of. When I switch the camera in cinema to ae composition camera, it always lags when I change the camera angle. It's like it has to catch up with itself. This is with 8gb of ram with my current LAPTOP.
EDM? Lag is mostly due to CPU / GPU power (or lack thereof). There is never 'too much' RAM, more is always better as it means your machine can keep more data in quick-to-access memory without having to recalculate it or pulling it back in from the disc
Surfaced Studio Windows doesn't cache that much. If you aren't running large simulation or virtual machines or extremely heavy content creation, you won't notice the difference between 8 GB and 32 GB of memory (in fact, Windows won't use it so it's 100% useless).
The OS may not, but the programs you run can suck up as much RAM as is available - and both AE as well as Premiere / 3dsMax, etc will take what's available so if you have more it'll save you any potentially expensive disc operations
+surfacedstudio2 can we use 980M laptops for extremely professional special effects films and video editing in Adobe After effects and Premiere pro cc? i really need a big help as i am stuck in this matter for so long. i travel alot and on a budget as well so please help!!
What do you mean with 'extremely professional special effects films'? No portable solution will ever be able to compete with the workstations / servers / clusters you will find in a professional studio. Also, AE isn't the only tool used to create pro grade VFX, sometimes it's not used in the pipeline at all ;) All depends on your requirements
+TheBismai Un-bo-lievable. Didn't see a point in paying extra for a fancy fan since I don't plan to overclock. Haven't had any issues since I built the machine
Beautiful video, very informative. Wasn't expecting that much information.
+TopKnot :D Thank you, glad you liked it!
Thanks for posting! Just getting ready to build one for the exact same uses as you and this was very helpful.
BayareaJay Great to hear, thank you :)
this kind of video is what I was looking at! thanku dude!
Glad to hear :) Thank you!
+surfacedstudio2 I have only 1200 dollars computer
+surfacedstudio2 and 6tb hard
Here's the one I'm building:
i7-4790K
GTX 970 4GB
32GB DDR3 1866Mhz RAM
Asus Z97-A
2x 500GB SSDs
I have all this, still deciding on/need to buy cooler, psu, case, probably a 1TB HDD or two.
ScinLaeca358 Good luck, sounds like quite a monster :D
Surfaced Studio Thanx! Actually built it a couple weekends ago - came off without a hitch. I did get the case and cooler and psu I listed and everything worked. I realized that I should've installed the mobo in the case before I put the cpu and fan in, because that noctua fan is SO huge, I could barely reach the top left screws, but all in all it all turned out well. Thanks for the visuals, stuff like this really helps
ScinLaeca358 Does buying a Hp z 800 dual processor workstation is better than this?
ScinLaeca358 what the noise levels from the noctua like? im thinking of coping your build
It's SO quiet...like silent. I'm really amazed given how huge it is. I think the Fractal case I got also helps - I got the windowless version.
excellent vid.. trying to build my first studio PC for music production and video editing...This will be my reference!! Thanks !!
+ISMAIL OMAR (ISH3000 BEAT-MAKER) No worries, glad you liked it!
on the 24 pin ATX connector you made a mistake. there are small plastic thingies on the end on the 20 pin connector, for holding down the 4 pin part, which doesn't have a locking mechanism if its own. so you have to plug in the 4 pin part first, and then the 20 pin part.
which graphics card is best for Adobe after effect
According to his title and video... His title says BEST computer for after effects and premiere. And he put a weak GTX 760 TI. No.... don't copy him!
thanks for this video. nice one tobias very helpful
+McNerdy Productions Glad you liked it!
That Celina's a good one! Make sure you keep her around!
AxeToGrind I will, but not because she buys me things :)
at 10:31 the hot air of the CPU is blown onto the RAM
+furulevi Doesn't really matter much for my configuration :)
Is the 2GB of VRAM enough for editing, or more is better as usual?
+furulevi 2GB RAM is likely too little, even 4GB might be a stretch. I'd go for 8GB at the least
150th like on the video. Really helped!
Bryan Smith :) Glad to hear, thank you!
You know the mess with the speaker /powerswitch /HD-led connectors, that's what the little help connector you found in the motherboard case are used for :-)
Ha learned something new! Thanks for that, I'm not sure why that didn't click in my brain before :D
What about CUDA, have that system like the GEFORCE GTX?
Fabeeam Producción Audiovisual Well, check the tech specs of whichever card you have in mind to see if it supports CUDA
My questions are:
1) how does the GPU affects the editing process and the export process?
2) will I notice a big difference between the ASUS GTX760-DC2OC-2GD5 and the ASUS GTX770-DC2OC-2GD5?
My system is not that powerful. Here are the specs:
ASUS Essentio CG8250
CPU Intel® Core™ i5-2300 Processor (6M Cache, 2.80 GHz) Quad Core
16Gb RAM (4x 4GB 1333MHz DDR3)
1 x SSD 240GB for Operating system
1X SSD 120GB for project media & cache
Removable HDDs 7200rpm for media and project storage.
Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit
Premiere CC
Last question:
Regarding the current specs of my computer will it make any a significant difference to upgrade the CPU to an i7?
Thanks in advance
Great Video, Thank you
Thanks for the video mate!
Hey this is great but i recommend next time you use thermal paste with the cpu and cooler !
Thank you! Also, thermal paste comes pre-applied with most coolers :)
And keep in mind that you don't discharge your static by touching the case, if your PSU isn't plugged it in a socket with grounding
+Redserpent2000 No worries and good luck putting together your machine :)
I have plenty of space and ventilation in my case, there is no need for super fancy cooling system - that's really more if you want to massively overclock your system
thanx alot for this video!
No worries at all!
can you also please share the benchmark results of your pc build?thanx in advance
any update on this upgrade? i'm finally getting around to a custom build and want to ensure its of good standard ;)
any help would be very helpful.
Joz!
Did a follow up video a few months back ua-cam.com/video/CS2ylk4VGYs/v-deo.html
Very happy with my computer, haven't had any issues and it's been a year and a half now. Happy with everything I bought back then still :)
The case you got is quite overkill. A carbide 300r would do the job. You could have gotten an aio water cooler, probably a Cosair h60 with that extra money. The stock cooler is just bad.
+Andermav Works for me and the case was nice and cheap. I'm not into overclocking so no need to water cool :)
surfacedstudio2
It's not only about overclocking.
For your next best machine, there are a few tips:
- forget about sexy look gaming motherboards by Asus and etc.
Check how much ram you can install on your Asus "beast" (32GB) and what is maximum of Supermicro MBs (192 GB - 3 TB)
- GPU.
Xeon/dual xeon have nothing helpful for ae/pr,
And,Geforce is better than Quadro for ae/pr.
For example:
Xeon+Quadro=5000$=100% performance
i7 + Geforce=2000$=120% performance
I know, the truth is hard to accept.
But it' here always.
So,if you use ae or pr,don't prece for xeon and quadro.
can u prefer any other cabinates.. how are cooler master cabinates ?? and which cooler master cabinate would be good with the same configuration u showed...
prtysh nth The one I have is pretty good. Any other case will work as long as it fits the components you want to stick into it and it has appropriate cooling for your setup
hello dear dose the asus z97 mark2 1394 port I'll be really thankful if you answer this question thanks heaps for the best video ever
Hi, sir..Thank u for the great video. I have a small question, I think u r using the Vertex SSD to install windows. Which drive i can use to install the Adobe Apps.. i mean AE and Pr.. SSD or WD HD.. to work fast?
Stalin Joseph If you can afford it, I'd put everything onto SSDs as they're simply faster than standard HDs
thank u sir...
can i use amd fx 6300 , 8gb ram for premier pro softwere heavy use atleat 4 effect adjustment layer i use on work with music projects ,
cool awesome video :-) how much for whole project cost you
My specs:GPU: GTX 1060 (I play quite a lot of games)RAM: 8GB (Well, actually 16, but 8GB stopped working when I installed my graphics card)CPU: AMD Athlon(tm) II X4 640 Processor (I KNOW, I KNOW.
I need to know about ssd drives better. My motherboard shows the sata 2 name? Do I need a sata 2 ssd drive?
+Michael Kendall Here's more info on SATA: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_ATA You can use SATA 3 drives too, but the speed will be limited to SATA 2 as that's all your MB supports
So about how much is the total damage, minus the hard drives and SSD's? Ive got the Firestudio 2626. Do you use Studio One also?
TheLivingDeadOne I reckon you'd look at around $1k in damages without the SSDs. I got FireStudio Project actually
@surfacedstudio2 hey can you please send me a complete list of you computer set up I want to build the same computer you did case included
Stability Vs Faster Render
I7-6800k ( 6 cores, 12 threads) 3.4 GHZ
64GB ram+ ( Or even 96GB ram)
6TB HDD+
GTX 1070
= $3,000 AUD rip
Primary uses would be AE, Nuke, Reaflow, 3dsmax, fumefx, 3dsmax, MARI, zbrush. Pretty much everything. Any suggestions? thanks
Hello Tobias! Great video, I have a question, Why you prefered GForce, and not nvidia Quadro?
nicolás silva Hi Nicolas. If you're big on CAD/C4D/3dsMax you might want to consider a Quadro instead :)
what is the solution of confirming in premiere pro cc when there is 3hr clip importing. and going process verry slow.
+Hemal Bhatt Well, a 3hr clip may take a while to import depending on the file size. The 'solution' is likely to get a faster PC :)
Apple are better? Really? In what?.... Lololol
A lot of people have this idea that "I want to do video so I should use Apple" because Apple is still associated with the 'hip' and 'sleek' design-focussed branding. In the end it just comes down to software and hardware, whether it's made by Apple, Intel or MacDonalds doesn't really matter
Surfaced Studio
you are wrong its not just about components, windows can freeze, update things pops up, by time slows down etc. many shit issues, apple works smooth with no pain in ass ,that's why some people prefer apple not because brand because quality.
Would you mind mentioning the final cost of your whole set up?
Not at all, I think it cost around the 1.2-1.3 if I remember correctly. But that was over 2 years ago now :)
Just curious...why didn't you go with the Mark 1?
Just wasn't sold in stores here, I could only get the Mark 2 so I didn't even bother looking at the Mark 1 :)
Thx for your Video's learning and learning
Which GPU support AFter effects for GPU rendering ?
Any GPU with CUDA support
much much thank you for ur reply..
i tried different latest Gtx 960 970 when i render in Adobe After effects it doesn't use GPU,
Questions. a) Does that card have CUDA support and b) how do you know whether it does or doesn't use it?
Almost every gtx GPU but with hack!!!
my pc is asus 6th gen i3 8gb ddr4 ram 500 hdd intel hd 530 slow in rendering and hangs when i use AI PS and after effect together suggest me the correct size of graphics card and ram
Is there stock computer that out of the box would be comparable price/performance to this today?
+Corey Gonsalves Not sure, but that should be easy to find out if you check out online computer stores and compare the specs
Sir.
Which operating system (OS) best for AE & PR. Win 10 OR Win 8.1 ?
I'm using i7-8gen.
The OS shouldn't really matter. Personally I think Win 10 runs smoother, but unless you run some side by side comparisons I don't think you'd notice the difference. Check out my updated video on the topic here: ua-cam.com/video/nvZORXtbRng/v-deo.html
heeey!
what about rendering time? old vs new ?
+Double A Much faster in the new one, but I haven't run any technical tests
ahhhhh :)
how fast is much faster? ;)
'much' ;)
hello there
I was working with indesign and now "OMG" i have getting these heavy projects like 4000 products or 8000 products for catalogs.
I'm using | i5@4th generation | 16ddr3 | no graphic card | hdd 5200 rpm |
i know its a quite out dated pc but untill i know which is best to handle these heavy loads of graphics i don't want to waste my money.
So , if you can help me that what kind of machine (desktop) i use to mange such a heavy load graphics in indesign. would be really helpfull for anyone who is facing this kind of problem,
really looking forward to your answer
cheers
Is there anything I can do to make my Macbook Pro faster in premier? I always seem to have laggy playback, even after rendering.. (i'm new to this)
Really depends on your spec and the files you are working with.
Albert Arriola I work in projects like those complex ones from Videohive News projects, it´s too complex indeed, but I think they should run smooth.
Elazord Thank you very much for your suggestion, my friend.
hello Sr, what is the best video card for rending video after effect?
Check out the updated video on my main channel :) ua-cam.com/video/nvZORXtbRng/v-deo.html
Nice video. I currently have an i3 4330 + 8GB ram, would upgrading to an i5/i7 make a huge difference to after effects? Thx
Thanks... Manny
+Manny Cepeda Try cleaning your pc to keep the air flowing and cooling the hardware
+Manny Cepeda probably a hardware cooling problem.
hi there, why didnt you install ddr4 system? I want to build new system but I cannot decide ddr3 or ddr4. the cost difference will be about 200$, which is ok for me
+FLUFilm Prodüksiyon ddr4 only 1-3% improvement from ddr3 and about 1watt less power, save your $200 for better cpu or maybe gpu IMHO :)
+FLUFilm Prodüksiyon if budget is not a problem, then you might wanna look at these cpu for faster processing/rendering
www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html
i7 5820k is just what I want. perfect for the price.
What would you recommend? ASUS Z97 Mark 2 or the ASUS Sabertooth R2.0 990FX?
completley different Pins. one is for amd, other Intel.
Hello, so what it the best computer considering the budget now in 2017??
Just to be enough not to be so good that make pro videos just 10 or 5 min video...Thank you in advance
i have searched already but it looks complicated with so many options
Your best option is to go to the official requirements page: helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/system-requirements.html and purchase something within your budget that satisfies it. Personally, I'd recommend getting at least 8 (if not 16GB) of RAM
Hi Tobias,
i have the gtx 970 and just fighured out how to enable gpu rendering in premiere and ae. But it takes around 3 mins for a 15sec clip at FullHD. Is that normal? I have 8gb of ram and decided that ae and prem. are allowed to use 6gb. The ram-preview is working only 20sec aswell.
I have cs6 on both programs
How can i speed up my renderingtime ??
Yours sincerly
Nicklas
P.s.: Sry for my bad english I'm from Germany
Some people say that every graphic cards wich is TI means nothing, and they are not way better. Is it true?
TheBalooStudio Well, TI stands for Titanium, supposedly runs cooler than the non TI versions. I've never owned a TI and none of the reviews or tests I saw indicated that it justified the price difference between the models.
can i install diffrents ram and sizes for example i have one of 4GB and the other one 16; will it cause a problem?
I'd recommend using the same brand/size/make for each RAM stick you put into your machine
hi now im using 500gb hard drive for video editing but i desite to buy new 4tb wd hard disk for my editing works plz help to chose better color in wd hard drive
You'd likely want a video card with strong CUDA capabilities as more video editing tools can leverage that
Surfaced Studio
Thanks a bunch.
The Great MC Plus even though they're for gaming, they're pretty powerful for editing and VFX too. I have a gaming rig but most of the time I do my editing on there.
How much does this all costs, exactly if to be specific? Waiting for your reply anxiously. Thank you!
Cost me a bit over 1k, but that was YEARS ago and likely no longer applicable
The way he says "nuts" gets me every time
Don't you like 'nuts'?
surfacedstudio2 aha ;) i just find the way you say it like "nats" funny. Only joking though m8, keep doin what ur doin! love ur vids
what do you think about asus gl752vw-t4016t for "after effects"?
Never used it so I can't really say
ok, thanks
you forgot to apply thermal paste between processor and fan heat sink
Comes with the processor pre-applied. You can use your own, but unless you are lookinat overclocking it isn't going to make much of a difference
i know this is probably a stupid question but how do you know what sockets the mother board support?
millicent1990 The motherboard has one CPU socket which can fit a number of CPU models. Wikipedia has tables on the particular socket page that shows which CPU's will work with it.
980ti says not supported for acceleration (cuda) pfff.. i can enable it tho but it doesnt seem any faster!
AE uses hardly any GPU acceleration anyways so you wouldn't get much out of it. It's more useful for Premiere
where you buy the GTX 760 OC? how much you pay for it? thanks...
Bought it at a local computer store. It's been so long ago the price I paid is likely not going to be of much use any more - I reckon it'd be much cheaper now :)
cool so only 16 gig of ram is ok, i have a max of 24 and was about to upgrade for cinema 4D, seems like its not worth it? Great tut man
+Mardi Mars Depends on what you want to do with it in the end. I haven't had any problems with running on 16GB so far
Cheers man.
would I be able to run fl studio 12 properly this as well ?
Never used FL Studio so I can't answer that. Check their requirements
I would recommend a sound card for studio quality.
Igor Bajic Stock cooler = balls. It may not have been seated fully or more likely, the thermal paste sucks.
yeah since then I got a xigmatek GAIA II and it is perfect, at full load it keeps the CPU at a stabil 60 to 65 degrees :D
and is necessary to use ssd drive....for premier pro project how much my faster my premier pro softwere will run if i use ssd drive
Please watch my follow up to this video here: ua-cam.com/video/CS2ylk4VGYs/v-deo.html
+surfacedstudio2 how much VRAM do you need for premier pro cc working in 4k quality? What would you advice?
+Milad Daliri Not sure, I don't often work with 4k. I reckon 16GB should be sufficient, you're probably better off with 32
My current system i5 2500,6gb ram ddr3 1330,xfx hd5870 1gddr5 renders 4-5min vdeos at 720-1080 30-60fps for 3h.
My Specs:
MSI NVIDIA GTX 970 2GB/ASUS NVIDIA GTX 760
550 Watt SMPS
Intel i5 4440
MSI Z97 PC Mate
Corsair Vengeance 8GB DDR3 1600 MHz
See how you go first, then you can always make different decisions on PC number 2 - or upgrade the one you have
I'll upgrade RAM later as the motherboard is having 4sloth (32GB Max), it would be enough for now. This will do then. Thank you again. :)
Did you fry anything, as you are working on carpet which would fry most hardware?
Just watched further into video and saw you knew what you were doing.
Fortunately (and potentially surprisingly) never fried anything in all my years of building PCs since the 90's :) There is always a slight risk, but if you avoid rubbing the carpet like a madman and take some precautions it's usually fine - or maybe I'm just super lucky :D
I had a free old computer once, took it apart for parts and left motherboard on carpet. Fried, lucky just wanted case ram HDD and psu
Hey can u recommened me a laptop for after effects and visual effects..
The brand doesn't matter, just make sure it has the same focus as the machine I built - strong CPU, lots of RAM (I would recommend at least 8GB), dedicated graphics card and preferably an SSD
WOW!!!!
You Are An Engineer Too!!!!
I Didnt Knew!!!
+Nakshatra Roy Got a few things going on :)
HMMM....
+surfacedstudio2 Yup!
Thanks for reply! It helps!
My specs:
i5-4670k
Corsair Vengeance 8gb 1600mhz (2x4) (planning to upgrade to 4x4 16gb)
Gigabyte 750 ti 2gb
Z87-HD3
Is this ok for a bit of editing in Premiere and some stuff in after effects?
i think i need some more ram because whenever i do stuff in Premiere or After Effects, it says low on memory... so im getting 16gb
i also need one more monitor....
how long it is going to take when u render for final output at 1920x1080 and 30fps in 15sec or 30sec duration? please BOLD the answer? Thanks surafcedstudio2
signager bzomie If I render a fully black video without anything in it that probably only takes a few seconds. If I stick 100+ layers, 3D and other fancy effects in it it could take hours. It really depends on how much calculations you are throwing at your machine within the AE/Premiere Projects
thanks for the good answer.
i use dell pentium 4 dimension 3100 with 3ghz processer is it good or bad?
I do not know how that would compare - worth checking some online tests to see where it sits performance wise
Toby G Its a joke lol, AE Cant even run unless u have 4gb ram, 20gb hdd, And Intel Core 2 Duo
I just bought a new GPU (ASUS GTX 750 ti). When I go into AE folders and make it to support, Im getting an shader error before opening. Inside AE it says that my GPU is supported, but then I cant choose the Ray - traced 3D renderer in composition settings. Any help? :(
For any technical support you will have to contact Adobe or post in their forums
Can your new PC handle 4K works in After Effects?
Haven't tried as I haven't had any need for it :)
What is better for Premiere and AE? Quadro or GeForce?
I haven't tried both of them for comparison, but I hear the Quadro cards have more capacity for offloading work onto the GPU
can you tell the prices of the components
+SADNAN ADIB Check your favourite local store. Prices vary all over the world
hey I am building a new PC
should these specs be fine
i3 4th gen
gtx 720 2gb ddr3
8gb ddr3 ram
windows 10 pro 64 bit
What is the minimum amount of gigahertz because I'm trying to build a pc with a small budget and I want to know the minimum cpu
There is no real 'minimum'. Less GHz just means it'll be slower
what is the recomended ammount of ghz to run after effects smooth with no freezing
The OS may not, but the programs you run can suck up as much RAM as is available - and both AE as well as Premiere / 3dsMax, etc will take what's available so if you have more it'll save you any potentially expensive disc operations
how much did it cost? total?
+DISPENCERY7 a bit over $1k. Costs will depend on where you get your parts
Dude, did you really use that cheap fan for you setup? Unbelieveable
+TheBismai Un-bo-lievable. Didn't see a point in paying extra for a fancy fan since I don't plan to overclock. Haven't had any issues since I built the machine
Which is good for ae pr pro win 7 or win 10
What difference do you expect it to make?
How much is total cost
This is many years ago, none of it would be relevant any more :) Go check your local computer store for the best prices you can get
Toby G
Thank. You so much
You are very welcome :)
