My father was a WWII veteran and served aboard the carrier HMS Illustrious during the war. That carrier took an absolute beating multiple times, and has the distinction of taking the most bomb and torpedo hits without sinking than any other during WWII. Imagine being at your station below decks, and a huge 500 lbs bomb comes crashing through the upper decks and explodes. My mother assembled bomb components for bomber command during the war, which was an extremely dangerous job as their were German spies all over England looking for targets such as this so the Luftwaffe could drop bombs on them. My parents both migrated to Canada after the war, and they met here, married and started a family. I have vivid memories going back to when I was 3 or 4 years old hearing my mother sing this song, as well as Bluebirds Over The White Cliffs Of Dover, as tears streamed down her face remembering dear friends and family who were killed during the war. Also seeing her birth country absolutely destroyed was too much for a lot of English people, and many immigrated here, to Canada. This is the last song I would ever have thought would be a tutorial for guitar, or any other instrument for that matter. Very few people who either served in the military or were citizens who lived through those bloody years are left today, and songs like this are virtually unknown today. If you asked anyone who Vera Lynn was, 99% wouldn't have a clue. You brought back memories I had long forgot with this tutorial, thank you. Jack ~'()'~ Canada

This is actually one of the most comprehensible tutorials for this song out there! Especially love how you showed the strumming, yourself and the chords all at the same time... and even a slowed version! Thank you, from the deepest of my respect !!!!!!❤❤❤
During this quarantine I've begun livestreaming on a radio app known as Spoon, I sing and play guitar for people who come into my streams and even hold talent shows. Very quickly I burned through all songs I've learned (which weren't very many considering I've been playing guitar for only a year and a half). However, with your tutorials I learned many new songs with such ease and now I can share them with my followers. Through music and my short 3 weeks on the app, I have a gained a following of 6,000 people and I continue to grow. Everyday I smile ear to ear as my chat floods with "Play Fly Me to the Moon!" and I pull up your chords on your website. Thanks for the awesome tutorials and videos Alan! I will keep coming back and learning without a doubt! Many thanks from California. 👊
great tutorial. I really appreciate it. In the vietnam war my grandpa was a south-vietnamese heli pilot, this was his favorite song. He used to ilegally getting casettes from his american friends. I was really suprised when he still has it to this day,a bit glitchy but its pretty much an antique now
Thanks Alan! Maybe one our *American* friends will scratch their heads to but the right song at the right time! Probably of no interest to anyone but my mate used to live in *Vera Lynn's* old house on *Longbridge Rd. Barking!*
Hey Alan, thank you for covering this song, it means a lot for people right now. P. S I would just like to personally say on behalf of your followers and myself, thank you for all the great tutorials over the years, they have really helped. So, many thanks and stay safe 👍
amazing cover again Alan, your videos are streets ahead of most of the other tutorials you can find on youtube. If ever you get a chance or like the song yourself, there's no tutorials done yet for "up shit creek again" by Tom Waits :)
