- "The supreme court of india had initiated the suo motu contempt proceedings against Activist lawyer, Prashant Bhushan, the similar notice was also issued to Twitter India. The contempt case against Prashant Bhushan is reportedly based on his two tweets criticizing CJI SA Bobde and last four CJIs. Following Bhushan's tweet on June 29 criticizing CJI SA Bobde, a Guna based advocate Mahek Maheshwari had filed a petition in the supreme court asking it to initiate the contempt proceedings against Prashant Bhushan and Twitter India. He alleged that Bhushan passed the derogatory comments on CJI SA Bobde Deliberately and wilfully.
The SC Bench while hearing the matter had asked Prashant Bhushan to file a reply by August 5. Bhushan who filed his reply Yesterday, has detailed his explanation on the comments/ tweets he made. Replying to the contempt proceedings against him, he said that bonafide criticism of the manner and the functioning of the Supreme Court, 'however outspoken, undesirable and unpalatable' it is, cannot constitute Contempt of court.

Next time people need to be very careful while supporting the likes of Anna Hazare and Ranjan Gogoi. Men like them protested against injustice in public eye and then took it to whole another level by their actions.
Supreme court judges are not above law. They are answerable to citizens not their master's Modi or Shaw and BJP. BUshan forget to mention some other case like Rafael, 2002 Gujarat Riod Besy Bakery, Ayodhya demolition etc cases

There is widespread disapproval of the contempt proceedings. Case is reserved for judgement. It was heard by the bench headed by Mr.Arun Mishra, whom Mr.Bhusan had reasons to demand to be replaced. Now, the judges may find it difficult what type of judgement to give. They may feel the suit is a counter productive action. May feel like one who had caught the tail of a lion!

So many people repeatedly allege corruption charges against politicians, Govt officials and many other individuals and institutions in the country. Even retired SC judges have pointed out corruption in judiciary. Why such allegations against judges alone is not being tollerated? Is it b'cas no judge is corrupt or b'cas they are given the tool of slapping contempt cases as they want? Then, why not similarly arm the other sections of the society also with powers to adjudicate contempt proceedings by themselves?
