Breath of Fire 3 - Reaching the Oasis with Life Armor and Royal Sword
Вставка
- Опубліковано 1 лип 2024
- These are directions for getting from the Factory to the Oasis while picking up both the Life Armor and Royal Sword along the way. This can be done using the steps below*
*Just note that these directions have only been tested on the original Playstation version of the game and may not work in the PSP version.
1. From the Factory, walk NORTH for 2 full nights.
2. Walk WEST (4 left turns from north) until you find the Life Armor. This should occur after 2 and a half nights of walking.
3. Immediately after you get the Life Armor, walk NORTH to finish out the night.
4. Walk ENE (3 right turns from north) for 2 full nights.
5. Walk NORTH until you find the Royal Sword. This should occur after less than half a night of walking.
6. Immediately after you get the Royal Sword, walk EAST (4 right turns from north) to finish out the night.
7. Walk ENE (3 right turns from north) for 2 full nights.
8. Walk EAST until you reach the Oasis. This should occur after a half night of walking.
There is a shortcut you can use to reach the Life Armor instead of steps 1-2 above that saves one night of walking. However, this shortcut could be problematic depending on the type of screen you are playing on, so keep that in mind before using this shortcut:
- Begin by walking NORTH as usual.
- Immediately after you are prompted to drink water for the first time, walk NW (2 left turns from north) until the Evening Star disappears off the left side of your screen and is directly to the west. This should occur near the beginning of the third night.
- From here, walk WEST until you find the Life Armor, then follow steps 3-8 above.
Here are some tips to keep in mind when traveling in the desert:
- You can conserve water by walking for a while after being prompted to drink. This is necessary in order to make this long trip. You can take damage 4 times before you begin to temporarily lose your max HP. The beginning of the video shows how to do this.
- NEVER make camp and rest until the sun is fully risen and you are prompted to make camp. When you do get the prompt, make camp immediately without taking any extra steps.
- Whenever you break camp or exit a battlefield, make sure you check the stars and make sure you are facing the right direction before you begin walking again.
- Sometimes you'll get unlucky and will be forced into a third battlefield just as the sun is rising. If you exit a battlefield and cannot see the stars, you can use the clouds to orient yourself. If you don't remember the position of the clouds, your best bet is to walk forward until the night is over.

Thank you for this! Just finished following all the directions. Need to add one tip:
During the Royal Sword search, after you've walked 2 nights NE, if you have a Holy Mantle equipped, TAKE IT OFF. It screws with your random encounter. You won't run into the Royal Sword if you have the Holy Mantle equipped. After 3 attempts, I finally took off the Holy Mantle and then ran into it.
remember the good old days when you couldn't youtube this shit? Oh gad i were stuck here for over a week of trying and trying and trying.
Zero Resistance that’s exactly the reason why rpg games are so “short “ now.. u can look up anything
And if I remember right the Capcom official strategy guide was wrong in telling you where to go! I think the prima version or another off brand from official I got and it was right.
Funnily enough, the german guide got atleast the directions right by a map, which pointed the directions.
But even then, there was a little flaw, with their direct route.
Walk the false north star till the fata morgana of the oasis appears and vanishes, but finish walking the night towards the false north star and then walk the next night north to find the oasis.
The quick route guide was correct except for one fact. You do not continue walking towards the false, but true north star right after the fata morgana vanished.

@@ThanatosZero I think there's a special place in hell for whoever put those guides together
If you don't care about the two items and just want to get to Caer Xhan, just head north by northeast (one tick right of north) continuously. You'll get there soon enough.

Thank you, it was very useful, first time I manage to get to the Oasis, I first got this game on its release in 97, and since we didn't have the internet back then only magazines and friends to rely on and I was young like 12/13 years to follow a magazine coordinates, I could never find it, I started playing this a while ago, and your video helped me greatly, it's like vanquishing and old enemy haha, thanks brother.
just picked the game back from a friend and have been following your strategy guide. other than a few blips here and there it is excellent and very thorough. wanted to let you know! thumbs up!
Just got the royal sword!!
This walk-through is the best one I’ve seen to get these certain items by far.
Though I think he would be better off going back to base camp and starting over to go to the oasis afterwards that you do not permanently decrease your health from drinking so little water on this trip.. But that’s just my opinion.
But for getting the items I Highly recommend
Nice guide, playing it now and about to reach the sword. Great game!
Well, 10 years later, but thanks for the video, it really helped me with the Retroachievements :D
*THANKS A MILLION!!! I FOUND THEM AFTER I GET TO THE OASIS*
I have the original PSX version of this game and I can verify that this tactic works. Be careful with your water. If done correctly you should have at least 4 water jugs left.
Helped me 27/08/2020, thanks.
Thanks for this video. Was very helpful
@agilityman8 Yes. Once you reach the Oasis for the first time, you can enter the desert again either from the Oasis or the Factory.
After all the years of owning this game which is over 15 years for me personally. I found that this was the easiest way to get the life armor. It worked exactly as described. Going to do the royals sword now and comment afterwards if it worked
@Tommy Boulet bro Not gonna lie I completely forgot about this LOL. Yes it absolutely did work! Follow the steps directly and I had no issue with it whatsoever!
I just wish I could actually speed up the walking to make it go as fast as it shows in the video.
@WetWilly9 Life Armor is the strongest armor in the game in terms of defense, and it grants a very useful effect as well. Royal Sword is the second strongest sword in the game for Ryu, and since the strongest sword is a freakishly rare enemy drop (averaging one per 1024 battles) from a fairly strong enemy in the last dungeon of the game...
You can also get them by the manilla shop in Lost Shores. 1 Whale + 1 Barandy + 3 Spearfish = Royal Sword; 1 Whale + 3 Barandy + 1 Spearfish = Life Armor.
@duzaodu There are Speed Boots in the desert as well. To get them you have to start from the Factory and just walk EAST until you find them (it takes several nights to get there, though).
There was always a neat feeling doing the desert, watching the sky change and seeing the city in the distance. Easily on the of best rpgs. the ps1 era of RPGS was the best, hands down.
This is one of the worst parts of the game. And what made many people to give up un the game. So that doesn't talk very well about the design of this.
Still, it is true, PS1 was the best era but only for JRPGS, not for RPGs overall. There are many better games nowadays.
I completed everything you can do in this game except get those two items. I could never find them. Thanks for the video! I wish they made another game like this =(
Perfect. Thanks 😊
Thank you dude!
I quit this game because of this damned desert :(
Fucking Horis with his fake note, that give me nightmares for years.
I lost it when the dragon asked me to bow and pray
@@cainespade514 SAME. I never figured out what I was supposed to do there. Kind of wish I had thought of looking up a walkthrough.
Wow, you guys gave up very close! 😅
I remember getting stuck for literally a couple years before finally being able to look up a guide and beat it. So cruel that it's literally RIGHT before the final dungeon too!
@awit00 My directions from the Oasis are:
1) Face 1 turn left of due WEST and walk for exactly 3 nights.
2) Face due WEST and walk until you find it, which should be about 1 night.
Or you can use the old man's directions (IIRC it's 1 night SOUTH and 4 nights WEST). My directions have worked 100% of the time for me, although much like this video, some people can't seem to get either set to work. This problem has existed for years, and I honestly don't know what's wrong :(
@DavidK519 a few steps in the wrong direction can really mess it up... to be honest I had to do your directions from the factory about 4 times before I got them completely right.... though when I did get to the Life Armor I saved to make sure I could keep going from there since I did THAT part right that took 2 tries to get to.
Thank you!
Thanks!!!! it works!!! U ROCK
tnx for this video..........
i watch this video cause i didn't get the royal sword and life armor when i finished the game........
tnx again.......^^>
thx this really helped! :)
@duzaodu They're in the Junk Heap place before you get to the Colony on the other side of the world. You'll see wreckage of what looks like an airplane. If you stick right going in from the Kombinat side they'll be in a chest tucked into a slot on the left that only Ryu sized people can enter. there will be like a sloped area on your left with a 1 person wide gap in it.... can't really explain it much better, but they're in that gap
@DavidK519 I already knew that! means that there is no "Speed Boots" in the desert was just a bluff?
I'm following your walkthrough and surprisingly I did this is the first try, picked up the sword and the armor first go... and i've never made it this far in the game.
But with this tutorial, the sword is left behind. Fishing is not difficult but it takes a lot of time too
@LoneStarAkira If you go beyond three nights of walking west you've probably missed it. Unfortunately I've only tested this on the NTSC version of the game, so I can't verify the directions for PAL. All I can suggest is to make sure you're following the directions carefully.
@duzaodu Search youtube for "speed run part 44 by davidk5". The location of the Speed Boots in the Steel Grave are shown at 4:15 of that video.
i test it on psp version, and it works thx :D...
You still running this game? It'd be nice to see it at RPG Limit Break, GDQ or ESA. Cheers for all the guides too!
Este video vale plata!!! xD Gracias
playing this as a kid brings back so many memories!...
I hated this part though!
@DavidK519 this is what was in doubt, do the directions to get there, how many nights I get there? 7?
Perfect guide! thank you also i think theres nothing confusing like the D of death >.
thx!
Walked West for 4 nights and didn't see no damn life armor wtf
This guide works for psp as far as i'm concerned, i just followed it, but i walked for 1 night ENE after getting the royal sword so i had to restart and use the ENE straight out walk : /
also there are no noticeable changes in the psp version that i seen so far besides having a fishing game.
Nice!!!
Err, what's the name of the piece of music again? I know it plays on the black ship, but I don't know its name.
Another Life Armor could be good. I don't care for the Royal Sword because I already got one from fishing. Really just doing the fishing, you don't even need to get the items here, but I didn't get a second Life Armor.
Really you don't even need any ot those items at all. You can perfectly finish the game without them and just using the items they sell you at Caer Xhan or the ones you find.
These items are just for fun or completion, as none is essential.
nice vid!!!great job, works on psp version
@regalstar Thy Description sez: Music: Turning Point (a.k.a. the Black Ship theme)
Loved and hated this desert part!
I remeber i couldnt finish BOF3 because of the desert. After a year later i gave it another try and passed it with the first try.
damn dude, how Long did It Take to figure It out?
ohh thank you for this great help ! ^__^ with this i was able to cross that damn dessert >.> I've had enough already of it .. its realy creepy
i cried over this stage lol
When you realize that Myria don't know how you survive the unknown dangers of the desert.
If you are having trouble with the sword on psp I did it from the oasis by going south 1 night west 4 nights then south for about half a night.
Nice this will help me because I just got the Life Armor but not the Royal Sword.
how do I find the speed boots?
Bring back David streams!
I managed to get the life Amor but no royal sword. The guy doing my guide got lost, but anyway will these directions work just for the royal sword and to go to the oasis?
+DeathbyFira Unfortunately I never made a route directly from Factory to Royal Sword. Without the Life Armor there to serve as a point of reference for changing direction, it would be hard to make this route work. You would be better off making two trips at this point.
+DavidK519 Yep I went stright to the Oasis on my 2nd attempt and I am gonna go find the Royal Sword from there I know I could fish for it but it's my first time so I gotta get the sword the hard way. Just to earn my bragging rights lol.
+DavidK519 Your video really helped me out alot and the comments here helped me out alot I thought I was gonna be a other casualty in the Dessert Of Death lol. I gotta thank you for makeing this video I will be useing it on my Game + run thru lol.
Is any of this gear even worth it? It's close to the end of the game and I know the King Goo Sword or whatever it's called is the best in the game.
If you have the patience, you can get both from the Fish merchant from fishing points. Life Armor is one of the highest in the game and it regenerates health every round, Royal Sword is one of the strongest (at the time you enter the desert for the 1st time) and has electric property. Perfect for the bots in Myria's station.
I did that thing with the rod and bait. I also potentially committed a hate crime because of all the Manillos I ate.
When I was 8 years old, I used to play BoF 3 in psp i just got my royal sword by chance cause i dont even know what to do at that time I i did was follow those stars lmao
lol i got the life armor in similar random walk xd.
I can confirm this works on PAL PSP
Your desert crossing needs tweaking if anything
@TheIrishEnigma You did something wrong then... it worked perfectly the way he said for me. Though I messed up slightly the first 3 times and finally got it down perfectly on the 4th try
his guide is perfect, you're the one that messed up
works on emulator.. thanks :D
Well i finish the game at lvl 27 all character with no getting rare items it depends on build of charscters
I followed those directions exactly i couldnt find the armor I have the playstation 1 game
ok dumb ? but does this happen after you defeat the elder
can't get royal sword .. driving me crazy lol.
@yamibalus you would set up a video showing where the gap is, do not really know how to find, thanks for the tip!!
Found the Life Armor.
No clues as to where the Royal Sword is.
Sorry, but your guide needs tweaking, couldn't get the royal sword. I got the Life Armor right at the 3 day mark instead of 2.5, this threw everything off and I missed the sword.
same here
I don't get why everyone thought the desert was so hard. Just do what the Prima strategy guide told you to do and it works out.
XD
It is definitely not hard (despite this part of the game being so badly designed, especially when the game itself gives you two different instructions), however, it is the most boring part of the game. 😴
On my first playthrough, I got stuc khere because french translation did a mistake betwween left and right
Where do we get water?
in the vase or pot next to the guy that owns the rakda
in the oasis by the woman near the water
Doesn't work at all on the psp version.
Let me tell You: you can find both (Royal sword and the armor)from the migas monster and the black robot (i can't remember names perfectly because i play this game in my childhood and with no cheats, ending it more than 10 Times :) )
No, you get the Holy Avenger from the Migas Mage (Archmage), and the Aries Gloves from the black robot (Berserker).
The alternative way to get the Royal Sword and the Life Armor as seen in this video is with a Manillo in the Lost Shore area.
@@SeventhheavenDK You can find them with the faries too, if You put a store and reise it correctly
now i wanna sell my ps 5 now
It would be easier if theres a compass
Its much esaier to fish for the royal sword than this
how is it dumb?
i'm gonna assume that you haven't played much of this game, but yes this is after the elder...
Dunno what people are having trouble with, I did this on psp version first try, no lies, first go. Just be ver careful when the sun starts to rise, when it gets really bright but not quite to the point that its time to camp the stars disappear, if your direction changed your fucked, when it starts to get light, take note of the clouds instead, if the stars disappear for a few steps and u get a monster battle that changes your direction, you can get back on the right direction. Take care
GOt both of them muahahahaha :D
I dont get why People do this. Just Go fishing to get those 2 items.
They are not even necessary nor essential at all.
thats looks really boring to play
I rage quit because of this
i remember getting stuck on the desert all those years back. tips and tricks magazine may 1998 had a guide on bof3 with BULLSHIT instructions on how to cross the desert. i gave up on ever finishing the game because the instructions on both the game and the magazine are LIES.
90s struggles, false in game directions.
tnx for this video..........
i watch this video cause i didn't get the royal and life armor when i finished the game........
tnx again.......^^>
