I need to re bush some diesels. I'm thinking of either turning some brass stock and making my own bushings, or seeing your video, I might put in ball bearings. That would be FUN if it's not too expensive. Where do you get your bearings and what size are they?
You start with the Axles Diameter and the wheels. I have designs and prototype Diesel Trucks with DC Magnet Fields but used Insulated Wheels instead of splitting the axle. But I will be making a new truck frame in a #D Printed part. I believe the axle is larger that the steam engine. I found my bearing in the RC world. And suggest get your measurements and then search the RC Hobby stores on line. For the Steam Axle I substitute 4mm stainless Steel axle rods. I would guess 4.5 or 5 mm may be needed to match the diesel axle. Then the challenge is to machine the truck housing to hold the new bearings. I used flanged bearing to help serve then fitment. If you drill the housing with a bottom drill bit, (Flat Tip for a squared off Hole) you may be able to press fit a unflanged bearing. I place both bearing sides in the housing then fit the axle so i assure straight and smooth rotation. If you need help let me know. I could spent a little time studying the the fit and parts required. All my Best, Dennis
@@MygrandpasTrain I just took pictures of my prototype Alco set up if you want to see it. DC Magnetic Fields, All Wheel Pick Up, and Fan driven smoke!!!! Facebook chat or email???
Not yet I am going build 3 more boards and verify everything one last time then I can post it, It requires more inputs than anything else we do so it will be a Level 2 Upgrade.
My dear wife is a trekie and Star Wars fan, so when I ruined a shirt in the basement she bought me a work apron but her idea of a joke was to get a Darth Vader look on it.
I would love to do this . I am so impressed with the responsiveness and efficiency of the chassis you are working on!
Keep watching, you could do it.
