Sophia, even if it did not work out the way you planned, it was not a fail or a waste of time. I am sure I am not alone in saying we all learn from you. Like I have said before, you never fail to impress! Great video!
Hey, Sophia! You never waste my time. Watching your videos is NEVER a waste of my time. This was a valuable learning experience. Thank you for this post.
I would definitely not call this a fail. It's more of a snag. A pause.
You're going to get there. 👍👍👍
To me, you did the hardest part, wich was cleaning them. Ketchup! Who would have thought! Thank you so much for showing us the process. They look new
When I bought my house in Ireland 10 years ago, every door and door handle was different. Each door had a different colour or style, and each door had a different hand on each side. It was crazy. I have no doubt you will get this sorted. You are amazing.
Thank you for the history behind the glass knobs.
I have, way in the past, owned two houses with glass knobs. They were both built in the 1920s. One was glass on both sides, the other was glass and porcelain.
The house we live in now was built in the 1940s, added onto in the 1970s, and "updated" in the 1980s. It's odd, quirky, mishmashed, and totally "us."😂
Personally I don't see it as a fail. It's still a great lesson for your son, and other. It's not a waist of time. We learned that the modern doors have different size wholes in them and that the plates are different sizes.
You probably know this already but maybe for your followers. It came to my mind when you mentioned Home Depot, that veterans & their spouses can get a 10% discount.
You did not fail. You showed us how to remove and put back door knobs. I enjoyed watching.
Sofia those glass door nobs are stunning . I hope you can use them once you get the parts you need.
Please don't give up. I'm sure you can figure it out and get it done. Thank you for making it real with us and showing us the struggles.
When Aunt Clara was on the TV show "Bewitched" she always had her door knob collection in a big satchel..
.I always wished they'd do a show where she showed them all...there were some quick glimpses of some pretty nice knobs.
Restoration of the knobs was beautiful
Great job cleaning them they do look beautiful hope you find what you need to finish the project nothing comes easy anymore
I’m impressed with your great attitude, I would have said some bad words 😂!
They are beautiful door knobs so shiny you will figure it out I’m sure don’t be discouraged can’t wait for part 2 it’s gonna looks amazing when done
Hanging tight and will see you Tuesday!
You did not fail, you just aren't quite done yet!
If they do not work out make a coat rack with them or try to use them in another way they are so beautiful. You get a A plus for effort 💯
That‘s a great idea😊
Beautiful knobs, this isn’t a fail, just work in progress. I hope it will match.
I saw on @Kristin&Hal - with the old house they are restoring- the only doorknob with a white porcelain knob on one side was in the bathroom! Thought that was so interesting!
Hang in there. If it can be done you'll get it. One way or another.❤
White knobs inside the rooms in my opinion would look nicer. You will find the plates. If you don't end up using them you can sell them, nice and clean someone will buy them.
They are absolutely beautiful! I hope you are able to utilize them ❤
I use ketchup to clean my Mom’s Revere ware copper bottoms! Works great!
We love our copper bottoms. Everything I find one at Goodwill I have to grab it as long as the handle is still good. I almost have the entire set now!
I’m sure someone has said this but have you tried cleaning and using the existing round plates with your vintage knobs? Or you can glue wood pieces inside the hole, top and bottom, to give you something to screw into. Once filled, sanded and painted you’d never know.
We were very fortunate in that our 100 y/o English Tudor home came with brass floral, etched latch sets/knobs in the entryway and living spaces. Upstairs knobs were glass and porcelain
I can appreciate your desire to do this task. 👍🏼
I hope you are able to fit the glass door handles eventually, as now you have cleaned them, they look really nice. Good luck with the new plates you ordered. Also, personally I think the round plates will give off more simple elegance and suit the knobs more than the square one’s you were talking about.
I think square or oval would look much better. Thanks for the lesson anyway.
I am only up to the knob cleaning part of the video but think the bathroom needs a locking handle for company.
They are gorgeous
Better luck next time! Don't worry, it's nearly always test and trial in DIY!
We have handles. I was recently in a place with door knobs. After putting on hand cream I couldn’t turn the knob!
Too bad....but no fail. It's hard changing out the newer things to the vintage ones. I have one glass knob ---don't know where it is since he passed but I too wanted to change my doorknobs out to match too. Check you later!
It's not a fail! It is a project in process and a learning experience! These things happen to me all the time! It is really annoying to say the least. I have faith in you and you will figure it out. I get very persistent when these things happen and usually find a way! See you next time...this makes for good content in your video! Suspense!
Sofia.. if you are close to a Habitat for Humanity store.. they may have the face plates for your doorknob’s that may have been donated to them 🤷♀️
Wow those knobs sell for lots of money in antique stores. My husband has used those on different doors and he says the mechanism is totally different and will not work. We have bought the new ones at Home Depot but they are cheap looking glass compared to the old glass and the mechanism in the new ones have lasted only a couple of years. I use the old glass as a paper weight or just to set on top of books. They sell for 25 dollars a set in antique shops around here.
For older bits & pieces you will only find them online
It not a fail. We all fail at something.
Awe that's to bad hopefully you'll find what will work for you. Those door knobs are really pretty!! Until next week we'll see you then.
Reality!
Il y a à san Diego (californie) une merveilleuse quincaillerie ancienne où je pense vous pourriez trouver votre bonheur. Elle se trouve dans gazlamp street ou boulevard et je pense qu'elle doit être sur internet maintenant
I have a big project I am going to tackle. I live in a double-wide mobile home. The trim on the ceiling that covers the joint where the two sections meet. It is falling down. The heat is coming in so bad. The A/C can't keep it cool enough. Wish me luck.
Go for it! And good luck
Do the original plates not work with the newer door knobs?
Wondering the same
Can you not use the existing plates with the glass knobs?
No they are attached to the knob mechanism I did try to pull them apart. No luck
