Mike, very informative and just in time. Hope you continue with Plaster 101. I like the idea of using the plaster cloth for the road. I am modeling around 1905 and most of my roads will be dirt, so this looks ideal.
Great video Mike - we don't often see you actually work on the layout... mostly it is after the fact displaying of the completed work! This was enjoyable and inspiring, makes me feel I need to get out to my layout more often...cheers from Aus...🌞
Hi Mike , thanks for showing us how you do your mountains and scenery with newspaper and plaster cloth. I’ve always wondered how wet you got or newspaper. I’m fixing to start doing scenery on my layout. I’m modeling the eastern part of the states. Some banks some hills with trees and underbrush. I did enjoy your how to video and watching you do the work. Keep up the great work and videos coming. Thanks for sharing. Have a good day.
Thanks Mike! That was like making a jig saw puzzle and inventing all the pieces as you go! I too, really like the idea of using wet newspaper! It keeps the paper from drying out the plaster cloth too quickly, so it can set properly! "Mind zee knees!"
Once again, I'm so lucky you're right ahead of me in building up the layout: I'm getting close to terraforming (finally! after over a year of laying track!) and learned a lot from your approach. Gathering my materials - and knee pads! Thanks mate 🙂
Thank you Mike, can't wait to see the top coats. I always learn something from your videos, and I learned today that yiu keep the plaster.cloth much lighter and thinner than I do over the wet paper, so that is a good thing. Keep up the good work and I hope that your knees recover too!
Thanks for the tutorial Mike. I plan to use wadded up newspaper and plaster cloth to make a small hill with a tunnel on my layout. Yours is coming along nicely and I am inspired by watching your videos.
Dear Mike, love how you’re narrating whilst terraforming. Very cool to see how this unplanned plan comes together. Also, think these tweaks definitely bring potential to increase the field of depth on this part of your layout. Very interesting idea about the road towards the ranch making a bend into the backdrop and disappearing into the painted horizon. Awesome!! Cheerio
Hi Mike. Creating mountains or hills with plaster cloth and newspapers probably is one of my favorites to put scenics on the layout. Thanks for sharing. It looks great so far.

Hello Mike it's your your buddy from Wisconsin here hey I'm glad that heating pad worked out for you other than that the layoffs looking good I like how you're doing that road and giving me some more ideas thanks a lot there buddy I'm glad you're doing okay now so just be careful and I'll talk to you then it's looking good there buddy your friend from Wisconsin Darren
Very nice tutorial Mike! Looks great!!! Thanks for the tips about wet newspaper as I’ve been using dried newspaper before plastering so now I’m changing my ways for the better 😊
I know, right? It never occurred to me to get the newspaper wet before putting in on the layout as a pre-form before plaster cloth lol. I can't tell you how much masking tape I've used holding that stuff in place just to have to go back and re-stick it bcuz it wants to pop loose!
Mike, I liked the mustang videos, learned a lot, and I am OK with them. Let's see, constantly overthinking and perpetual planning that's me. This video was made for me; many thanks came at the right time. Keep it coming, Mike.🥰😁
Hi ya Mike. I thought I was gonna be late to class. But I just made it before the bell rang. Great tutorial. Plaster cloth over a subfloor of wet newspaper. Awesome. Obviously your back was a little better. Okay. Thanks. See ya next time.
Thanks for showing me the underlay to your plaster cloth. And best of all, which is the "right side up". Now I see why some of mine were difficult. Better idea to also pre-cut some strips, versus cutting off the triple roll as you go. Tidier (is that a word?). Looking forward to next steps as you add plaster to finish? BTW, my knees and lower back would not have survived as you did - hat's off to you!
Plaster cloth such invention. Always looks good. The old days was wire smash screen trying to manage and cut up my hands. Then the plaster Paris was always shrinking and cracking. Your using cookie sheet for soaking? I am doing a layout at the club. Anyway love your imagination.
I wouldn't have thought of using wet newspaper! Thanks for educating Mike. As a matter of interest, how do you fill/cover the gaps between your fascia and the foam? I know there's plaster cloth there but what's underneath it? I ask because it's a job I need to do.
Very helpful video Mike. When you did your larger mountains did you wet your paper or leave it dry? I need to get the effect of sharp peaked mountains of Arizona on my layout. Much gras for your videos.
Thanks for showing us your method, and of course you made it look easy, (except for the kneeling part LOL). One question Mike, Do you need to ruff up (sand or wire brush) the foam, or paint it, to get the plaster or paint to stick to it well?
Nice video. I used plaster cloth for the first time recently and I didn't realize it sheds a lot of plaster dust. I need to find a better way to cut it so as not to have white plaster dust all over the place...Not sure if different brands of the cloth shed less... Nice video and well done. Phil
Have to say it made me a little nervous watching you on top of the layout. But all is good, and you finished your initial work in that area. Please stay safe :) Great work also!

Great Mike, thank you so much for showing how you paper and plaster cloth your scenery. Really enjoyed it and very helpful. Barry UK.

I learned something with the wet newspaper. Keep up the great work, I always enjoy ALL of your videos.
Thanks Dan , Mike
You are a brave man Mike. If I tried kneeling on my layout like that I wouldn't have a layout, or I could add a very large canyon.
Very good instruction video Mike, thank you. That will help me as I continue to work on my layout and module.
Thanks Mike! That was like making a jig saw puzzle and inventing all the pieces as you go! I too, really like the idea of using wet newspaper! It keeps the paper from drying out the plaster cloth too quickly, so it can set properly! "Mind zee knees!"
Thanks Michael. My knees are fine but my tailbone still hurts most !!!
Hi Mike, great newspaper method, well done! I will do the same on my train layout. Best regards from Hubertus
Thanks for the quick lesson there Mike now I know what I'm supposed with the plaster cloth 👍👍

Thanks Mike! Tried this on my N-scale Kato layout and initial results look pretty good.
Great Harry !!!
Very interesting and informative video Mike, thanks for sharing your technique. Your new knee pads look comfortable.
They work well.
Mike
Thanks Mike. It seemed much shorter than 37 minutes. And I like the idea of folding the edge for extra strength.
Great clinic on plaster cloth there Mike, looks real good! (Dave).
Nice how to video. You make it look so easy. Thanks
Thank You Gene and glad to have you.
Looking awesome mike

Thanks for the demo Mike.

Wet newspaper again.

Great tutorial Mike!
Thank You Cary. Mike
Very helpful video Mike. When you did your larger mountains did you wet your paper or leave it dry? I need to get the effect of sharp peaked mountains of Arizona on my layout. Much gras for your videos.
I used both dry and wet. You can also put the paper in dry and spray only the areas to shape.
Mike
For some reason, my video had no sound ?

Thx for the video update Mike
This is the way I like to watch a how to video
Thanks Allen.
Mike did you start out with just plain water when you were wetting the newspapers?
Yep , Plain old H2O
@@N-Scale Have you ever added acrylic to the water that you dip the plaster cloth in, to pre-color it?
@@cbirailroad No , as I put plaster over the cloth.
