Looks great! Instead of a coal facility, how about crushed rock? Or better yet, a salt mine like they have in Hutchinson. You can super rust out your hoppers!
Coal is not the only thing you can model there, so if you really want to have a loader and a unit train pass through, pick another aggregate material such as Sand, Gravel, or Limestone, all of which are present in Kansas. Matter a fact, a sand or limestone powder would be even nicer as you can use those short 2-bay covered hoppers, and lots of them to make your unit train. Gravel for ballast is found almost everywhere, and you can run that in the open top hoppers. Plenty of options to choose from and still befitting for your modelled area.

They might not mine coal in Kansas but probably plenty of places that use it for fuel - powerplants etc, could have a receiving area for inbound coal at a powerplant. Layout looks good buddy, love the American flags! You should do an updates with a couple of just trains running around the layout in the background while you're doing the update. - Steve

I can understand the desire to have that coal site, but I personally think it is also important to have a few areas where not much is going on. So I would be afraid to stuff in to much, but it's hard to judge from a YT video how it would all look in the end.
@garykcs5532 I'd say do it. As long as the benchwork extensions are sturdy it'll be great. Plus it'd be fun to model a mine like that and loading switcher.
