All the star-trek series are very good but for me Voyager comes out on top. A simple tempory hologram is developed into an amazing character. I can't think of a better person than Picardo to take this part. He was amazing all through the Voyager series. Bravo
Correction the voice we hear is recorded, however he wasn't lip syncing either. He was singing to the audience, but for sound reasons they dubbed the recording over what he sang. Look at his tongue movements, cheek and throat muscles, and how he flushed a bit during the sustained high note....
@@funkmantim2661 The issue was quite simple: he's an actor and thus not a good enough singer. Robert Picardo is pretending to sing. The actual performance is by Agostino Castagnola. The piece is composed by Vincenzo de Crescenzo. It is called Rondine al nido. You can find the actual performance on UA-cam.
No, he did sing the song as the scene was being filmed. That is why it matches so well with the voice of Mr. Castagnola, which was played over the set sound system.
I know this is an old comment but... This is by far my favorite piece of his. You are correct, the reason they did the voice dub was because of the acoustics on the sound stage. It would not have given this song the depth and tone it needed. His other small songs aboard Voyager didn't require it.
Two years later after I made the bellow comment I come back to make a correction. I really love this song so I started to learn more about the song itself when I came across info online that Robert Picardo DID NOT actually sing this song. My being sure that he did was based on the fact that he sang opera before, but not this aria. This is what Picardo says about it: "I get asked constantly by the fans if I did all of the singing on the show and the fact is that I did almost all of my singing. I did all of my singing except for the second half of [#133 Virtuoso]. The Don Carlo duet and Rondino al Nido are voiced by an opera singer Augostino Castellnano (I hope I spelled that correctly)(correct name: Agostino Castagnola). (For instance, the Tincoo hologram's aria was, deliberately so, too musically difficult and required a professional singer.) He's a terrific guy. I simply couldn't sing high enough or well enough to pull them off, but I did my own singing in [The Swarm], [Tinker, Tenor...], [Renaissance Man], [Someone to Watch Over Me] and all the others."
