Acting out the animation yourself and paying attention to the movement (especially for lipsync) really helps, although it can be a bit awkward if you're not alone in the room lol (amazing tutorial as always!!)
If you watch any of the Milt Kahl animation videos, ALL the old paper-and-pencil animators had a MIRROR at their desk to watch thier lip movements and mouths and things. They made faces at themselves. It really does help!!
You’re an awesome teacher and animator as well as a skilled illustrator. Please do not stop! Thank you so much for the video. My lip syncing was quite stale and this helped me a lot!
whaaaa, I want to repeat that I think these videos on your channel are damn underestimated !! I love them and it pains me tearfully to see such a small number of views and likes! the video is awesome and it turned out to be VERY helpful to me, I am having huge problems with animation and your videos are so inspiring and helpful in this regard! Thanks!!
This tutorial came at the perfect time for me, thank you!! A little bit of critique though, if you don't mind, the "stinky" is louder than your voice so it's a bit odd/requires audio to be adjusted when there's a lot of replay
The ability to *scrub* the audio track to analyze it and annotate the track as a guide to syncing the animation to the sound is something that the developers need to add to CSP. Writing the words directly on the drawings is a good idea, but I'd like to have audio scrubbing.
awesome video, very useful info. thought i'd mention I couldn't hear my audio but after setting playback to 'realtime' it worked fine, just incase anyone else has that problem.
I've followed your channel since I was 11 in 6th grade and have looked up to your art in warrior cat MAP's for so long! Now that I'm graduating high school I've grown an even deeper appreciation for animation and have wanted to learn it. This video was really helpful, thanks for the great work!
I used to have this issue in CSP where when I import audio it doesn't work. It gets imported, yes, BUT - there was no soundwaves, no audio, nothing. Just the layer. Here's how to fix that: The reason - The reason this happens is because the codec of the file is unsupported, even if the format is correct, that doesn't change the codec. I don't know how to see or change the codec of a file,, but I did find a way to get around this. The fix - What I do it, I save my file (which doesn't work right away because of the site I use), feed it into an audio editing software/website (In my case, I use soundtrap because I have a subscription, but others work too), you can edit it or just leave it, do whatever. Save that version, delete the original file from your computer (for the sake of your storage) and the new file should work. If it doesn't,, just try use soundtrap haha it's free and it works for me
if you click the three little lines in the top left of the timeline, itll open a menu, go to show animation cels - onion skin settings, and you can change the number in there! It's more cumbersome than other programs but it's in there
I always struggled animating in CSP. For some reason, whenever I make an animation and it goes one with some frames closer together ((sometimes but not always)), it likes to lag out and not match up with the audio despite it being on time, has that ever happened to you? if so, how did you fix it?
ooh I don't think I've had that :'o if it's lag then it might just be the preview struggling to render and the final export will be ok, or if it's timing wise with the frames it's usually a good idea to have your frames a frame or 2 behind their audio cue as we tend to hear audio before we see visuals! Makes it look a lil more timed
I had a problem with the audio lagging a ton, and found out using .ogg files instead of .mp3 files helped a lot. There was still some lag but not much.
i know this is very old but I had that issue a lot too and found that choosing the option "render before playback" helped it a lot. go to animation tab then playback settings
In hindsight, I can't animate anything longer than a second either, so ..great. went through all the trouble to sample something and now i can't do it XD
@@Finchwing the thing is, the ONLY real reason to buy EX is for animation, and the fact that they seem to be neglecting that aspect of their program really sucks. i hope they do add it soon though
whenever I import audio it does come up like a layer, except, no sound plays and there aren't any soundwaves visible on the timeline either. i've tried different file types, restarting my laptop, updating CSP, none of it worked - I also went on the csp forum to ask but nobody was a help there. can someone help me?
might be something to do with the audio filetype? have you tried with a different audio file just to check if it has something to do with the file itself?
@@spoofrog oh gosh that's frustrating im sorry ;o; I'm not quite sure how to fix. There's plenty you can do to learn to animate though, like look up the 12 principles and practice those. Audio can come later
So then what happens when you trying to create music videos, or a scene with all those sound effects and background music altogether? Does this mean I have to cut off the audio every time?
I'd animate to the sound that needs to be animated to, such as music if you wanna lipsync or making sure you match a beat etc, sound effects is usually done after animation during the editing phase, say in adobe premiere or davinci resolve etc. Animate in CSP in a shot by shot basis, then edit together in editing software at the end
You can't listen the sound as you scroll on the time-line? As a professional animator I'm used to work like that. Guessing where to put your keys must be really tideous, especially if Clip doesn't consistently display the animation in real time...
Audio scrubbing is now available on version 3 of csp! This isn't really built to be professional animation software, so as a fellow professional you can stick to stuff like Toon Boom and TVPaint
its hard for me to find out exactly where the word starts out in which frame even with scrubbing. scurbbing makes it even more unclear. The words start right after a word and the lines of waveform looks are one after another and i cant find where the words are. I use toonboom. how do i find out where the words are and
You just kinda get used to it honestly, don't worry about getting it 100% right! As long as it looks right when the animation is played back it's all good. Sometimes speech is slurred or mumbled so that makes it harder to 'find' words, if it helps you can record yourself making the sound and use your own mouth as reference
The mp3 file loads in for me but it doesn't actually play the audio. When I play it outside csp it works, though. I don't know what I'm doing wrong cause up to this point I've followed the video
It's annoying that CSP advertises EX as their "animation" version of the software and it doesn't have audio scrubbing. I've been looking around to see what tips people have but it's still disappointing

I once had to film myself doing something for reference for a short film and it felt super awkward haha but it totally helps!
i did that for a while now i just automatically overly mouth the words without meaning to lol
Always do that

Great tutorial! I love watching the process of people animating and explaining through it
Now i keep getting "stinky??" in my head lol. Keep it up, i love your animations ! Good work!😻
I got so invested in this then I just heard it... "Stinky. Stinky, Stinky, Stinky"
This is reallyy really helpful and I loved how you spoke through the entire process and explained it in a normal way, thank you so much :' )

you can also time out ur lipsync keys, play it back, and adjust the timing accordingly til it looks right
Apparently, it has been added to 3.0, unfortunately i'm still on 2.0 😞

Omg this is so helpful- thank you 💖
I would put this into a tutorial teaching playlist, though I can trust in myself. I might watch it from time to time though.

Been a while since I saw one here!~ heyo Finch! Keep up the work, you're doing great.
your art is absolutely awesome💓💓💓💞💕💞💟💖💗💖💝💝💖😻😻
When I lipsync I usually animate the character first then add the mouth on top with a new layer.
That works too!
same
The Animal Crossing music 🥲
this is amazing
Definitely helped! You're so good!
in another tutorial they said for audio scrubbing to work you need to import the audio in wav format
audio scrubbing is supported in v3!
lol idk if you'll see this. At 5:05 when u went to frame 13, how'd you make the onion appear from 8 layers back?

When the EFF is clip going to add audio scrubbing? Like I can't understand how such a key feature is missing.
it's an illustration program first so it wont have every animation tool possible! I believe they're adding it kinda soon anyways

We have audio scrubbing now!!! 😄
yess!
how? I cant hear anything when animating. Is there a way to enable it?

The fact that csp doesnt have audio scrubbing is auauau
