    What kind of material do they use in the kiln for support? It looked like wood but, obviously, that would just burn to ashes.

      Refractory bricks are usually used in the kiln for support. They are usually silicate based mineral that have a low coefficient of thermal expansion

    That "clay shrinks as it dries" was so out of place. I think it should have gone before the sentence preceding it.
