    I have the same one. I was going through my subs and saw the thumbnail and just looked up at the garage door opener next to me. Now I’m here.

    I can remember Genie garage door openers from the late 60's my late aunt and uncle had one in their home. A steel housing with the motor in the garage, a small vented steel box containing the circuit board and vacuum tubes for the receiver, plugged into the operator. Push button on the wall, plus transmitters for each car.

      Those units were very reliable and I remember the vacuum receiver boxes you are talking about. I have a 1960's Genie Screw Drive (Model 401) that still works like new. I don't much care for the newer types as they seem cheap and plastic.

    The most frustrating part of garage door openers is if you have camera sensors on the ground in the front and they get misaligned and start to insist something is in the way when it's not.

      If you don’t have kids and dogs and aren’t worried about the door smashing something in the way (car) then you could mount them on the ceiling by the motor and I could almost guarantee you you’ll never have safety eye issues.

      Might need to replace them. They get bad after 5-10 years of sunlight. Easy to replace relatively cheap online.

      I charge 100 bucks to go correct that....sooooo, make sure you check them please

      @@TheKonakairay Yea, that's not legal in any state. They're going to have to be on the floor if you ever plan on selling that house. You might as well not half ass it the first time

      SammyM00782 that’s cheap. You gotta charge 100 bucks for the sensors and then 75 for the labor my dude.

    They make packaging look easy but when I try to return stuff I can’t package like the factory.

    ive only seen the chain drive style of openers. is this a newer design?

    • @rawbacon
      @rawbacon 2 роки тому +1

      It's newer but they've been around for a long time.

    • @Knogooseness

      Not really newer, screw-drive openers have been around since the 70s. History on openers is not recorded well but screw-drive openers are have been pretty much phased out, Genie still offers a couple models but literally every other company no longer offers them, even the more popular Chamberlain/LiftMaster company. Most companies opt for either belt or chain drive, with belt being much more popular due to its quietness.
      The most recent innovation is jackshaft, one’s that connect directly to the garage door’s torsion rod. It’s popular because it’s packaged nearly but are significantly more expensive. It’s just a commercial motor style that’s been adapted for residential garage doors. Most innovations are incremental stuff like LED, Wi-Fi, built-in camera, etc.
