EXACTLYYYY! Now pieces feel Flat. Nowadays pianists execute “sharply” or with exactitude but with no expression and pieces fall flat. Actually Yo-Yo Ma was speaking of that in his “human perfection” vs human expression ❤ Saying he wanted to devote his life to human expression and that is beautiful.
I have all of Arrau's Schumann recordings. I think he is the best interpreter of the composer. I believe that since Maestro Arrau was so well read and much of Schumann's piano compositions are based upon literary inspirations, he is able to capture the wealth of emotions contained in his works. But, this is true of Arrau's Liszt, Chopin and Beethoven also.

What do you mean by “Lisztian training”? Please explain. Did he study Liszt’s music when he was a piano student? His etudes?
@@syourke3Aurrau was a pupil of Krause, who was taught by Liszt himself. So he is a direct descendant of the Liszt school.
