My biggest modification to my Strada was switching to a 30-47-52 half-step-granny chainring set and a matching 11-34 nine-speed cluster. There are some Shimano Deore XT half-step front derailleurs out there.

Dan, are you still riding? I just bought a used Bacchetta Corsa 65 and working on it to get it in riding shape. Your video gave me some great ideas. As of writing this it is July 2022.

Yes. Still riding. More and smarter.

Did you modify the front brake calliper cable routing ?.

Does that seat leave squares carved in your back on long rides?

Dan, I recently purchased a used Bacchetta Giro 26 steel recumbent just to see if I liked the recumbent concept, because after riding my upright bike I would have the usual pain in my butt, lower back and sometimes wrists.
Now that I'd have written it a few times I discovered that I love the recline position when I get off I'm fresh as a daisy except for a little leg tightness which is normal.
My steel Bacchetta weighs around 35lbs with a back rack.
My question is, is it worth it for me to upgrade to the Carbon 3.0?
Will I see a noticeable difference in performance, and do the Carbon bikes feel different than the steel ones?
I want to go faster with more comfort.
    Thanks

I ride a Giro A 20 touring bent and according to the factory without pedals it weighs 28 pounds. However by the time it gets out of the apartment and onto the nearest road it weighs closer to 40 pounds as I tend to take stuff. U-lock, 2 liters of water 5 different size tubes a patch kit , tools and it all adds up but I am so used to the weight it just does not bother me. ( five tubes 20"24"26"and 2-700C as I lead rides with the VBMG and fix other bikes on route ). Yes a light bent makes a difference and if you are a weight weenie then you will be faster.

May I ask what head rest and mount did you use?

    • @PrescottHome

The headrest is probably the most customized part. A combination of PVC pipe, foam rubber, gorilla tape and zip ties. It's always changing.

In Germany we have the nickname praying hamster for this type of handlebars 🐹

I've thought about turning the stem backwards like yours with the stock handlebars because fully reclined I need the bars closer. Your thoughts?

I cut the bullhorn bars (60 mm, both sides) and welded them together. My wrists are close enough to my chest to really enhance both the control and the aerodynamics.

Kept my Bacchetta CA2.0 stock, and in my opinion is much safer in a more upright position to be able to look side to side see cars etc., and still as fast as being more reclined. I've decended at over 55 to 60....too . Can't beat a stock Brain bag on the back....very aero. Have set records at St George Senior Games on mine......

Have thought about putting the seat in a further reclined position on my Bacchetta but have been concerned about hill climbing in terms of the degree of leverage required regarding the back pushing against the seat. In other words the more reclined the less leverage and hence power provided when tackling hills.
If this isn't an issue for you how did you overcome it? Lower gearing? Higher cadence?

I put foam rubber padding to brace my pelvis. No problems.

ridewithgps.com/trips/59824617 This was a twisty, climby, steep (9.4 degree incline) course (industrial park - Sunday, no traffic). I used this course as a `bike handling' challenge on my Bacchetta Pelso-Brevet as seen in my Training blog: psychling1.blogspot.com/2020/11/pics-of-bacchetta-pelso-brevet.html. If you're in good shape the bike works flawlessly.

Dan, the Performer link you provided below no longer works. I've contacted Performer about your setup. (Awaiting reply.) I'd like to get the same steering you have. How do I contact you directly? (I'm in Los Angeles.)

@@PrescottHome Great bike. I like fairings because of speed and sun protection. I ride Lightning F40. Im looking into velomobiles too.
