Much like The Rumour, Streetwalkers had two lead players who could trade off: Charlie Whitney (left of screen) and Bob Tench (on the right). One heck of a band.
saw them in cardiff i think about 1975\6 .went into the pub before the show and they where in there, had a few beers with them, played this track for us on stage that night, never forget it.
That is great I met them in copenhagen 1975, they where playing for Black Sabbath as a warm up. I talk to them the Night before the concert on a local pub 😀 Asking about their equipment, Fender Gibson and marshall's 😎
Unique and wonderful, what a great band, this song has been with me from the first day I heard it, amazing that we had so many original bands and artists in the 70s
The finest era of rock music...when real musicians were actually given a chance to shine. Before the fucking sick, perverted, music industry took over and started serving up safe, streamlined popular bollocks like Boyzone, Westlife and all the other Louis fucking Walsh soundalikes. I was privileged to grow up with the Beatles, Stones, Who, Small Faces, Tull, Deep Purple, Zeppelin, AC/DC, Yes, ELP and real musicians who had dedicated their youth to learning to play an instrument!
Saw them a couple of times after Famiys farewell tour in 73. Charlie Whitney was on guitar for an old grey whistle test session for Tim Buckley in 74 with Fred Neils Dolphins, a great track.
Family was the first band I ever saw live at the Birmingham town hall 1970, blew me away made me want to play live which I've been doing for the last 50 years thank the stars. Love Chappo's vocals!
Yes, I got on to edge of the stage at the Roundhouse for Family's first gig back in the UK after a US tour. They were absolutely phenomenal live, and Roger sang with such raw passion. One of my favourite bands from that magnificent era of rock.
Roger Chapman has a significant sound, realy unique in my opinion. I use to have the LP "Family in a dollshouse" (vinyl) but that was long ago... Still I do like this music. thanks for sending Steve, and yes, where have all the years gone? Got the feeling I wasnot watching for one minute, and the next minute they were gone...lol. but as I said once before, doesnot matter that we grow old(er) unless we do it gracefully and with all our good memories. No one can take those away from us
My brother put me on to this about 40 years ago. He recalled having seen The Family do this in the 70s and Roger Chapman was so pissed he broke three tambourines and nearly decapitated my brother with the mic stand. Fantastic song and a top live performance here.
Saw them with the Who at Swansea in 1976. The rain went away as he sung My Friend The Sun. Widowmaker, Streetwalkers, The Outlaws, Little Feat, Alex Harvey and the Who. All for £4. Oasis tickets have just been announced, £150, and they’re not a patch on any of the above.
Used to go watch Family (now Streetwalkers) mostly for Chapman's antics. He would have a bottle of beer in each hand, he drank the one in his right hand and covered the audience with the one in his left hand. He went through copius tambos. If the stage lights bothered him he would use a tambo to shatter them. Often he would pull the mic up straight and smash a tambo over it. End of the night there would be 3 or 4 broken tambos at the base of the mic stand. The music was also really good.
First time ever that I've heard Chappo sing "boogie my night all away" instead of "bin gol dit dit dit dit dit dit doo"! Saw him earlier this month at The Brook, the voice is a little hoarser and lower in pitch but it's still a mighty, towering thing. I hope he keeps coming back for a few years yet.
I saw Family at The Brighton dome in 197* something, I will never forget it, 3rd row centre stage, someone heckling Rog..........Biff, off the stage, despatched the guy, pricless rock and roll !!!!
This is great - thanks for posting it. Brings back many memories. Recorded originally by Family not Streetwalkers, though, which were a later Chapman/Whitney outfit. Someone please post some trax from Red Card - I lost the album in a house move :(
At 01:08 just over Bobby Tench’s left shoulder, there’s a large poster of the carnival fat man used as the front cover for Nils Lofgren’s first solo album (1975). It’s the sort of image I’d expect the Asbury Park amusement venues would have used. Anyway, I’d like to know the source of that painted image.
I was watching this out of curiousity because the drummer Dave Dowle did some brilliant drumming on a couple of Whitesnake albums in the late 70s. This music doesn't really float my boat but the singer is undoubtedly amazing.
Saw Chapman with Family a couple of times at The Sunderland Locarno around 1970. A great live band and Chapman was an equally great singer, although they had a certain amount of success they never really hit the big time you tend to think they should have.
Seen these characters perform in Detroit, around 1977. Can't remember where--(Masonic Temple)? But...The Almighty WABX-FM interviewed Chapman, Whitney & Tench before the concert. Funny, because the ''Air Ace' DJ (Dennis Frawley), said to be careful leaving the studio, located in Downtown Detroit. Chapman said "Ya i hear Trouble grows on you over here--If it does...we'll cut it right off". Lots of on the air laughter after that comment. But in reality, they would have been taking a knife to a Gun Show! Anyway...Damn Fine Band!!!
Is wondering when Kasabian are either going to murder or do justice to one of 'Familys' tacks.........they will always be in second place to Leicesters Nunber 1!
The most powerful voice in Rock ever!
One of the top singles of all time. Masterful! 😮
I loved this band. Used to follow them everywhere. Dangerous, mad and pure genius.
This was fantastic, Roger sings exactly as he does on the record, great song and great band
Great tight sound live. The guitar player kicks ass. This group never got their due til the TUBE. Thanks to whoever put this gem up.
Much like The Rumour, Streetwalkers had two lead players who could trade off: Charlie Whitney (left of screen) and Bob Tench (on the right).
One heck of a band.
Saw them in the Wheatsheaf Stoke they were this good, even had a pint with Roger after What a nice chap
One of the most distinctive voices in rock. And he meant it.
saw them in cardiff i think about 1975\6 .went into the pub before the show and they where in there, had a few beers with them, played this track for us on stage that night, never forget it.
lucky, lucky, lucky,
What a great memory!
That is great I met them in copenhagen 1975, they where playing for Black Sabbath as a warm up. I talk to them the Night before the concert on a local pub 😀
Asking about their equipment, Fender Gibson and marshall's 😎
Broke the mold when Chappers came around, another example of why the late 60's early 70's was the epitome of great rock.
What a vocalist the great Roger Chapman
The BEST version of the monster classic!
Unique and wonderful, what a great band, this song has been with me from the first day I heard it, amazing that we had so many original bands and artists in the 70s
Intense power love love love them first saw them at the City Hall in Newcastle stupendous band

Holey Moley - what a great performance! Raw , real, mesmerizing Chappo at his best.
Nearly 50 years ago!!!!! Where's it all gone???????????
Now, that's a frontman. Powerful voice and presence. Sure wish he'd come to the USA again.
Amazing voice, remembering see family in 73 in Dundee, an unforgettable concert. What a voice
Great voice, of course, but really terrific ensemble playing by very talented band!
oh my god thank you so much for this-I cannot believe the sound and visual clarity here. Had no idea this even existed. Thank you times 1000!
Saw them a couple of times after Famiys farewell tour in 73. Charlie Whitney was on guitar for an old grey whistle test session for Tim Buckley in 74 with Fred Neils Dolphins, a great track.

A band that should have had more recognition. All his albums had personality, as well as the band and great compositions.
Knew the roadie in the early 70's got backstage to see them at the Roundhouse. Best live band then. Really blew you away
Yes, I got on to edge of the stage at the Roundhouse for Family's first gig back in the UK after a US tour. They were absolutely phenomenal live, and Roger sang with such raw passion. One of my favourite bands from that magnificent era of rock.
What a great song and Roger and Charlie at the top of this 1972 classic!
Roger Chapman has a significant sound, realy unique in my opinion. I use to have the LP "Family in a dollshouse" (vinyl) but that was long ago...

Another ten years went by! ;-)

A powerful voice.
saw them on stage at the Vetch field, Swansea along with the Who, Alex Harvey and Little feat .
Whoa. That's a line up!
Saw them with the Who at Swansea in 1976. The rain went away as he sung My Friend The Sun.

Killer riff!🤗

Woah, some players on here, and I just love that back line!
Any band with Roger Chapman is great
Roger and all the other musicians in Family were as solid as it gets without any flash.
Big Roger !
Charlie Whitney is a Guitar God, but not so well known.
I saw Family at The Brighton dome in 197* something, I will never forget it, 3rd row centre stage, someone heckling Rog..........Biff, off the stage, despatched the guy, pricless rock and roll !!!!

This is fantastic. It's just about as 1977 as it gets.
amazing!!!!!!!!!!! so good
Viva CHAPMAN'S STREETWALKERS du rockblues dégraissé.
At 01:08 just over Bobby Tench’s left shoulder, there’s a large poster of the carnival fat man used as the front cover for Nils Lofgren’s first solo album (1975).

This is the grace of thing ... all Streetwalkers music made my days as the Whitesnake, for example .... did just a few minutes and left me longing.
+Seventysongs sorry but I didn't understand a word of that.
My English is confusing .. ignore :))
beautiful viodeo and song...
Saw Chapman with Family a couple of times at The Sunderland Locarno around 1970.

Somptueux !
...love it..
What a shame Charlie and Chappo didn’t have more success.
God bless Chapman-Whitney...
Great effort...
Who are they!!?? These dudes rock
Brilliant:)
I hope all your wishes come true

New band - same demented goat
trop fort !!!!!
Who didn't Bob Tench play with?
The Cowsills.
Tiny Tim and I don't think he ever gigged with The Incredible String Band. Not sure though.
John Weston played bass on the record. Muscular!
Awesome Precision grunt!
Burton Bradstock Wetton Brother
Amen
So Steve malkin I sent you this
Sounds like Bob learned a couple chops from Mr.Beck.How could he not?
bobby tench played guitar very well before beck ....he does always too much
unique, thats all av got tu say
One of my fantasy dinner guests. I just hope he doesn't shit on the Axminster and is careful with the bone China.
made No. 13 for Family in 1972
There was not one half hearted effort from the streetwalkers it was all or nothing they gave
4.46 Chappo launches another 'discus'.
musicplateau1 😂😂😂😂
Really this is a great song, but without Roger singing it the music wouldn't be able to carry another singer. Roger way too funky.
+++++++++
Nice
